Rogue Legacy 1 & 2

Are we all playing the same game? There was a big gate blocking me from progressing to Zone 3 until I beat the Zone 2 boss!

Spoiler:

There is a way around that without beating the boss.

Basic crude map layout:

.......4. Stygian Study ---- 5. Sun Tower

1. Citadel Agartha ---- 2. Axis Mundi ---- 3. Kerguelen Plateau

....6. Pishon Dry Lake

Oh you sweet summer child.

Spoiler:

If you jump up two platforms on the left and then manage to jump all the way to the right, you can slip through a crack in the wall and end up on the other side of the gate. This can be done before you beat the boss.

The other thing is there's nothing that needs to be done to fight zone 2 boss. Zone 1 boss required some metroidvania-style items but zone 2 needs nothing but to get to the end of the area.

Does anyone enjoy the secondary weapons for any of the classes? I unlocked the ballista bow and the incendiary gloves and found them both to be more annoying for me than the original weapons. Recommendations on what to unlock next?

I unlocked the boxer one but haven't tried it yet. He hasn't pooped up in a few runs. I read through them on the wiki and it sounded like the best one.

I did get the spinning hammer as a drop in one run and it was kind of fun, just a running ball of death. It's weak damage but interesting.

I just beat boss 3 finally. I decided to try Knight and then in the middle of the run I got the Ronin katana and figured what the hell. It really worked well. Made me take my time since there's a delay with the attacks and I stayed safe. Not sure why I couldn't beat her with the Ronin yesterday but whatever.

Time to focus area 4

The Enkindled Boxer wrecks shop against bosses. Try to find him the relic that stacks Poison. Stand across the screen from the boss and pump damage into them. They go down stupid quickly.

Area 4's boss (I believe you are referring to the Stygian Library area) took a big difficulty leap for me. Good luck!

Good idea. That would be good for bosses... Thanks!

I actually stumbled upon the ballista bow and ended up really really liking it. Almost accidentally beat the second boss with it. That heir had giganticism so they the ballista was true to its name.

I really like getting vampirism in Rogue Legacy 2. I'm struggling to beat boss 3, but with vampirism I can get close and collect a lot of loot on the way.

Yep. I beat the two sub bosses tonight to open the boss door at least. But didn't make it to the actual door haha.

Boss 4 is so satisfying when you get to the chest.

Uh yeah. Beat boss 4 on second try. Boxer with alternate gloves OMG. Beastly damage.

And yeah that other thing after the boss was something.

Spoiler:

f*cking chest almost killed me. Was over 300 health when I safely beat the boss and beat that dumb thing with only 60 left.

2 areas to go. Still haven't got the next power from Sun area. Only poked my head in there once after I got the upgraded dash since that let me leave the starting room. Heading back in there for real tonight

I got the trait that doubles the max hp , but doesn't allow healing. I figured that would be a great one to make a beeline with to boss #3. Used the architect to lock the map for that run and teleported to the boss. Boss #3 dead. It felt like cheating. I'm at level 95 now.

I think I've reached my skill ceiling. I've been stuck in the Sun Tower for the past couple of days. There's too many homing projectiles, too much damage, and too many spiky/electric/stabbing/pokey things that keep murdering me. I did a "yolo" run to the boss room got smoked before I could even figure out what phase 1 was let alone phase 2 or 3? or 4?

Castle is level 110. Have 600 - 800 points dumped into the special store. Can't get more than $3-4k out of a Sun Tower run, so I've reverted to trying to grind out the previous area. Thinking I'll probably have to turn on some house rules or get a regex to add some more coins to level up my castle. It's frustrating because up until this point I've been feeling the game is really balanced and the difficulty curve is generous. But now it's just punishing and I feel like I'm never learning or making progress which sucks.

Yeah Sun Tower not fun so far. My best run of it was when I went to previous area to unlock scar and got a couple relics. But just 3 or 4 runs last night and didn't sniff the boss or whatever the new power is for that area. Felt like 0 progress in that session, although maybe I leveled up 1 or 2 castle powers

Just wait for the last last area for some real dodging fun.

Anyway all I have to say is the final boss is a jerking jerk who jerks.

Rolled the NG credits. This outing felt quite aggressively tilted towards getting you to NG+ without many roadblocks. I wound up one-shotting about half the bosses and none required more than 4 attempts, which is a stark contrast to RL1 where I think I bounced off the last guy for a solid 20 attempts or so. Boss attacks are all distinct and well-telegraphed; a Souls-style approach of "just focus on avoiding damage while you learn" will stand you in very good stead.

I'm a big non-fan of all the ranged classes. None of them feel fun to clear a room with. The Ranger and Pirate, in particular, feel like I'm pulling teeth with how slow they clear. The melee classes, on the other hand, are all enjoyable and each has a distinct feel (Lancer excepted). Ronin is by far my favorite with that brilliant crit mechanic and the zippy flash skill.

It's a worthy sequel to the original; I enjoyed my time with it and can see myself dipping in once a year or so to play through an NG+ level or two. It's no Hades, but then again, nothing is.

I've also been having "fun" with the Sun Tower. I've gotten to the boss a couple of times, but didn't survive for long. I also don't think I've gotten a permanent upgrade from that area yet (if there is one).

I noticed that I haven't found all of the lore messages from areas 3 and 4 yet. I think I might spend some time exploring in there some more, if only to fill out the book.

Considering you can only leave the Sun Tower entrance by one way when you get there, I'm pretty confident there's a power that has something to do with those golden bars on the other exit.

First boss down with 3 hp left and only a fraction of second before he unleashed an attack I was going to get hit by. level 35 with a mage, and then I died at the door across a gap in the next area where some spears sprung after opening it.

Jerk down. On to NG+.

I beat the sun tower last night at level 210. I was getting about 5000/6000 gold on a decent run. But yeah, the platforming makes that section pretty tough. If you can get to the boss room and lock the layout then you can just keep trying and wait for a build that's good against the boss, but your best bet is probably just a lot of grinding.

I've been stuck on the Stygian Study boss for a while now at level 107. I might be running out of steam. I was briefly happy when I thought I had him, but no luck. My best attempt against him was the double hp but no healing. I'm afraid I may have to grind too much to raise my hp and attack and I don't know if I have it in me. It's been fun getting here though.

Edit: All I needed to do was say I was going to quit and then I beat the boss, just like Dark Souls!

The astromancer is deceptively powered. Clears rooms, but kind of sucks for bosses.

I had the exact opposite take - they're a powerhouse for bosses. Drop your black hole and focus on dodging, then use your fly around the screen power as a get-out-of-jail free.

Maybe it depends on the boss. For the ones that move around more, you have to keep repositioning. But yeah, for boss 5 for example it probably works really well.

I gotta say my first impressions of the sun tower agree with those above. It does not seem fun. Plus I'm struggling to even take 2K gold where on the last level I'd frequently get 4-8K. When I get a good gold % earn bonus I may need to go through the other levels instead.

I think what helps is when you are doing a good run, a boss run, or an explorer run and try not to over focus on all of them at once.
