Elden Ring Catch-all

I KNEW there was a good use for that item! Duh, thanks for pointing out the obvious to this dolt.

I've also been using it on my shield run to keep agro off of Latenna. It makes her much less likely to pull agro and die immediately.

Wait. You can share things in coop?

I made another character that is exclusively using thrusting swords, so I traded one of every late-game light and heavy thrusting sword to a friend on my main character, then he dropped two of each for my brand new character. Now I just need to get my stats high enough to use double Dragon King's Cragblades.

Well, after the weekend, things have taken a turn for the surreal.

Despite my protests that he could respec instead, my son rolled a new character because he wanted to try incantations and bleed and lightning and dual-wielding and everything else his first character didn't have. I warned him about being weak if he spread his stats too thin.

First off, he cheeses that sleeping dragon for 80K runes and gets to level 34 in 30 minutes. Then he's doing his usual thing of calling in summons to play through areas, and some dude just drops him some awesome late-game armor and weapons, and like 4 Lords Runes, which I've never seen before but are worth like 50K each. So now my son's alt is at level 100 after 3 hours. My guy is at 78 after 80 hours. He then beelines Rennala, smashes her flat and respecs every 15 minutes or so to try out some new weapon, spell or incantation. He found Comet Azur -- I'm a mage and haven't made it to 60 INT or Comet Azur yet! -- then repecs so he can use it, then respecs back to another build.

Meanwhile, I'm plodding through the story "the way it should be played", finishing off Liurnia, exploring the Altus Plateau / Leyndell area and am at 58/60 INT to use the Carian Regal Scepter and Comet Azur (if I ever find it). I shakes me head, and tips me hat, at how many ways there are to play this game.

Kids. I mean they have the time and none of the baggage us old timers have

Felix, I love hearing about your son's adventures, and I hope you'll continue to update us.

My son is the same age, and I'm having a similar experience watching him wreck house in Elden Ring. He's so much more bold than I am. I sneak around with my shield up, edging along, being careful and conservative and strategic. He just charges in and somehow destroys everything in front of him. No conception of the "right" or "wrong" way to do things, and absolutely no fear of failure.

He killed the Fire Giant yesterday and is quite near the end of the game now. I'm miles behind him.

I am running out of steam near the very end of the game. I am stuck on Malenia, and can probably beat the last boss, but have zero desire to at the moment. Time for a break!

Looking back, I had a couple of encounters that were particularly interesting from an engagement standpoint.

First was Dung Eater. I know it's a game and he's written this way, but I got so disgusted by his plan that I stabbed him while he was tied to his chair. No regrets there. Except I can't see his ending now. I guess that's what YouTube is for.

The other was when I was booking it through Volcano Manor and accidentally stabbed snake lady after bursting through a window while avoiding something else. I felt so bad! I had to walk away from the game for a bit. I'm pretty sure the way she's situated is to push that result. And the amount of notes around her reading "Regret!" I'm guessing I wasn't the only one.

Well if you didn't kill that NPC there's a way to ask forgiveness and make them not hostile. At least I think so. There's a church out there with a giant turtle vendor in it. And the altar had a whole forgiveness thing when interacting with it. Definitely a thing from previous Souls games.

You can beat the game and come back for Malenia later if you want. She's totally optional.

Absolutely this. I was very stubborn in my playthrough trying to make sure I beat all of the trophy bosses and looking back I kind of wish I just kept Malenia for a post game fight. She's super hard (for me, anyway) to learn without just relying on something like a blood build that you can just mash an attack and win.

I'll also say that I had the same issue toward the end game, and a lot of that was my own insistence on trying to wrap up as many quests/trophies that I could before the very final battle. I'd say that if you're finding yourself lagging in the latter bit of the game, just push on through and wrap it up. You have the choice to end the game after you beat the last boss so you're not locked into anything and you can always go back and fight other bosses after you've "beat the game".

Yeah the final boss was tough for me, part 2 anyway. But Malenia was definitely harder. Should have saved her for post game

Its day 4 farming for the Halo Scythe. Pretty sure it doesn't exist or the drop rate is very low.

If you are on PC I can drop you one.

Thank you. I’m okay now. It just dropped two after I complained out loud.

I wrapped it up, having done juuuuust about everything you can do. I don't have PS+, so I couldn't save-scum the endings easily and just went with a blue-themed one.

I had lots of trouble with the final bit, and with Malenia. Also with the optional boss at the bottom of Faram Azula.

Stepped into NG+ and absolutely FACEROLLED the Scion and Margit right away. That was satisfying. Not sure I'll bother playing through again to get other ending trophies, but this was definitely my GOTY so far. Nearly 2 months and 180+ hrs of game time (some of which was probably me having left the game idling while I went to take care of something else).

I did think it was weird that the game lets you keep picking up golden seeds and similar, when there doesn't appear to be any use for them.

You can see your actual save file game time when you quit from the menu.

So the total sales so far is 13.4 million right now. That is amazing

That's just through March 31st.

Total worldwide shipments and digital sales for Elden Ring have surpassed 13.4 million units, publisher Bandai Namco announced in its financial results report for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2022.

I would guess it's at or above 15 million now.

I'm kinda interested to know whether Souls game sales ticked up at all following Elden Ring's release - i.e. did people go back and try Souls games after enjoying ER?

Anecdotally one of my longtime friends did. He had DS2 from a bundle or something and started it while everyone was playing ER. Then he got ER 2 weeks later and he beat it a week or two before me. And then he bought and started Sekiro.

On PC, the Souls franchise is being hurt by From's continuing failure to get the servers back online. It's been more than three months now, and player count has been falling steadily, according to Steam numbers. Personally, Elden Ring has indeed made me hungry for another playthrough in DS3, but I have put it on hold until the servers are back. I suspect many others are in the same boat.

For me, their PC ports are complete and utter garbage (tried ds2 and ds3 and not sekiro) and were refunded

Hey all, been sidestepping the thread for the most part to avoid possible spoilers. Couldn't resist sharing some campfire stories after plugging away for dozens more hours on my own.

I'm over 65 hours in with my samurai at level 70-ish. Just beat Radahn a couple nights ago. Actually found him not too bad. I went horseback + constant summons method as that seemed to be the path to victory they designed for "beginners". Still put in a half dozen attempts if not more because once those summons all died, Mr. Radahn would be on top of me like white on rice. I finally set up a good rhythm and summoning route on my winning run. All of them died leaving Radahn with the slimmest sliver of health when he came barreling towards me. No problem, I thought, I'll pull out the bow and finish him off with an arrow. Except... I was still on my horse and bow-aiming is problematic there. Lots of fumbling ensued. Oh crap, he's on top of me now. Big hit knowed me off of Torrent. More fumbling. Crap, why am I still not two-handing the bow? Another blow sent my health plummeting. Oh no, he's flying up into the sky for a hail Mary. I've had trouble rolling away from this one...OMG, I survived. Ok, flask flask flask. Got it! I just need to square up and land a jumping heavy to finish off this mofo. Here we goooo. Pleeeease... YASS!!

My heart is thumping out of my chest like it does after most boss fights. Then I think, yeah, that wasn't thaaat bad...

But really, the progression from Margit -> Godrick -> Radahn I feel has been a downward trend in difficulty. The caveat with Radahn is without the troupe of battlefield summons, that one might've been a real stumper.

Going back to clean house at Selia Crystal Tunnel was very satisfying. My next revenge target is Godskin Apostle in Caelid but he's still shutting me down, even with an upgraded tanky knight summon. Have beaten the Altus Plateau version but I had Torrent's help. Currently experimenting with some of my under-used Ashes of War to try and find a weakness.

So how much game is left?? Upon finding out that I'd only beaten Godrick, someone on Twitch claimed that I wasn't even 25% through the game: This is insanity. Insanity in a good sort of way, but still insanity!

BTW, the stories about some of your sons and how they're kicking ass in ER are great! I always think back to when I was a teen up to my mid-20s playing FPSs and how, even though I was never top of the top, I possessed a certain "killer instinct" or boldness as one of you put it that I've progressively lost since I hit my 30s. It is the innate youth advantage that allowed me to run roughshod over older coworkers at my first full-time job when they tried to challenge me at Unreal Tournament and Half-Life. Now, it's gone. It's gotta be the wear & tear, man. A lifetime of taking too many arrows to the knee and all that!

Not knowing everything you have done, I would say you are about a third through the required parts of the game. You have at least 5 areas to explore ahead.

A quick question for anyone in the know, about 20-30 hours back I opened a chest somewhere & it teleported me to the top of a mountain in the underground area to what I presume is another part of Siofra River.

I'll spoiler the rest

Spoiler:

You platform your way down the mountain & eventually see this huge knight standing at the edge of a precipice, he kicked my ass. I'm now ready to go back to him but cannot for the life of me remember where the trap teleport chest is that leads to him.

If it's the location I'm thinking of, I believe that was not a chest you opened, but rather

Spoiler:

one of The Four Belfries teleporters. Specifically, I think it's the third one.

Yes, Merph is correct.

And I owe that same enemy an ass kicking too, come to think of it.

Picked up the flamberge from radahns castle and i thought I’d try double wielding two great swords and holy maloney, so much damage! One of those big trolls went down in 5 swings. Havent tried double weilding before so thats another layer to the game. Lots of fun.

Oh yeah. Dual wielding great swords is definitely a way to make yourself feel super powerful. Just smushing everyone around you

Ah yes, I did go in one of those teleporters at the Four Belfries. It's been that long I've forgotten how I even got there. Thanks Merphle, your a star!

I'm level 114 now, I'm hoping that'll be enough. I just beat the big creature outside the Bestium Sanctuary, it was kicking my ass but I eventually learnt it's attacks so well that I felt like Neo from the Matrix on my successful attempt at downing it.

Anyone on Xbox want to trade me their

You can use an escape character. Like the one for space is %20. Not sure what it is for '.

Edit: looks like %27
