NFL 2022: The draft thread

I would have rather had Johnson, but I can't complain about the Cross pick too much. Just thrilled the hawks aren't going to reach for a QB.

Dallas takes a human holding penalty. Their own Kwame Harris. Good luck with that.

Ravens take Linderbaum. Definitely someone that will help a team that runs like Baltimore does.

Jets take Jermaine Jackson Johnson. Knew they were gonna target edge rusher sooner or later.

JAGS trade back into the 1st, moving up from the 1st pick of round 2. Oh lord who is this gonna be...

Bucs give up 27, get 33, 106, and 180. Seems a darn good haul to drop back six spots.

Jags take Devin Lloyd. Sniping an off-ball linebacker before the Packers could choose a second one.

Fairly similar to the Patriots-Chiefs trade, which I really liked for the Pats.

We got the better one!

That's not gonna help Lamar negotiations...

Ok, the Packers only picking defensive players in the first round, even when they have two picks, is hilarious at this point.

Packers take a nose tackle!

I'm not sure if the Georgia Bulldogs defense can win an NFL championship.

I actually like the Wyatt pick, I don't like the off the field stuff.

Anyways if both guys are NFL day 1 starters + Jaire back playing slot corner that could be a pretty scary D.

So we got a center in exchange for Hollywood Brown. This guy better be a future hall of famer.

Not really.

Pickens was the only viable WR really at 28.

WTF Cole Strange goes this early?

That sucks, I was hoping he was going to San Francisco in round 3.

Karlaftis is a good pick at this point.

Definitely a Strange pick for the Patriots.

Unless Minnesota takes a QB (lol suck it Qirk) or trades to someone who does, we're gonna have only one QB go in the 1st round, and it's friggin Kenny Twogloves, the Upsideless.

Willis and Corral (lol) are both attending the draft. Boy do I miss the sadcams.

And there it is. Five Georgia defenders in the 1st round. Wow.

Steelers take Kenny!

Picture if you will a situation at home in Pittsburgh or on the road in Philly where on a 4 and 1 situation Kenny Pickett is called on to run it through the middle of the defense to pick up the first and fails. Naturally, the press in Pennsylvania shall call it "Pickett's Charge."

That was pretty crazy with lamar's tweet taking the cake. https://twitter.com/Lj_era8/status/1...

I had to turn off fantasypros and switch to a different livestream though, the 5 minute pickett rant backed by 'dbro' with no stats was just full of hate and negativity.

Also the Seahawks seem to be doing the NFC West wrong:

F them picks.

Drake London.. 0-2 against Cal. Sorry Falcons Fans.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARON has to be so happy right now.

Kenny Clark is probably pretty happy with that first round.

And if Kenny is happy then I'm happy.

Pretty much every pick after 10 was a ?? to me. I barely follow college football (this year's national champ was ... Georgia?), and I was focused only on the guys that Carolina might grab at 6.

Good for Kenny Pickett. He ended up on a good team with a good coach and he won't have to start right away.

Sucks for Malik Willis, tho. Thursday was the NFL's way of saying that no one wants to invest a first-round pick in a long-term QB project.

Carolina Fan, meanwhile, giddy about the team drafting Ekwonu, is scheming for the Panthers to grab Willis despite not having another pick until Saturday morning. What a weird fanbase.

what were the Bills thinking trading up for Kaier Elam? The Cowboys were not going to take him. Seems like they just gave the Ravens a charity pick at 130.

Can someone convince me that the Steelers, having their pick of QBs, chose Kenny Pickett for any other reason other than he went to Pittsburgh?

It was definitely a positional reach, but I am unconvinced they had better options. This was a crap year for QB's.

Nope, can't do it. Apparently that's pretty on-brand for Pittsburgh. As the Ringer's draft winners/losers column put it today:

I’ve got a theory that the Pittsburgh Steelers’ draft scouts don’t like to travel. In 2017, they drafted James Conner, a former ACC Player of the Year at Pitt—a team which plays its home games at Heinz Field, the home field of the Steelers, and practices at the same facility as the Steelers. (There are multiple fields—the two teams don’t have to take shifts.) In 2018, they drafted Oklahoma State’s quarterback-receiver tandem Mason Rudolph and James Washington after a game in which Rudolph threw for five touchdowns at Heinz Field. (They probably scouted them in the same film session.) Last year, they took Penn State tight end Pat Freiermuth. No, he didn’t play at Pitt, but Steelers scouts didn’t even have to cross the mid-Pennsylvania Sheetz-Wawa border to scout him.

On the plus side, the Steelers get a potential starting QB who's not facing a major life disruption other than the fact that he'll probably move into a much nicer apartment.

I think that's one of the things that fans (meaning us) don't appreciate nearly enough: So many of these young men are dropped into places hundreds (or thousands) of miles from familiar turf where they don't have friends, family or personal support networks. For a few of these guys, distance might be a good thing. For most of the others, the everything-outside-of-football side of the equation is tough to get right.
