I missed Kershaw being yanked 7 innings and 80 pitches into a Perfect Game.
The bullpenfication of the game kind of sucks. I know spring training was short and you want to build your starters up to avoid injury, but it's a shot at a perfect game.
Kershaw himself said it was the right move given his injury from last season.
While I agree that I'm not a fan of starters being limited and just a endless string of near faceless bullpen guys (hello Rays) I understand it. Guys are throwing so much harder than ever before and are severely damaging themselves.

Our league from college has been going for 17 years now. But it's one of those leagues where half the managers are checked out by the all-star break. Mixed league 6x6 weekly most categories. 25-player rosters and keep 5 players each year. I've occasionally dabbled in deeper formats, but it's tough to stick with something when you don't have the relationships with the league. Your league sounds really interesting though!
Yeah its a lot of fun. While owners check out in this league too, because there are contracts and consequences, its in your best interest not too. The minor league draft gives 1st pick to the 5th place team, 2nd to sixth, etc (first 4 are in the money) to discourage falling asleep, and there's a reward for "most improved" based on which out of the money team has the best points improvement post ASB.
Also because of contracts, there is a lot of trading that happens.. so for example I signed Corbin Burnes to an extension at the beginning of last season that takes him through the end of this season. His first 2 years in the league were shaky... he was great in the COVID shortened season, but with 2 so-so and 1 good year I signed him to a short extension, and then he goes out and wins the Cy Young. So no matter what he does this year, I need to throw him back into the draft pool at the end of the season. If I find myself out of the race at the ASB, I can trade him for some future keepers. If I'm in a good place at ASB, I can trade someone like a Jonathan India who's still on his rookie contract, for high value stars that are either unkeepable or expensive.
Also, since you're in the Bay Area and you say you're in a league since college.. does that mean you went to College in the Bay Area, and which one? While there's no right answer.. there's definitely a wrong one
To be fair, he pulled that off at least once last year.
Video for proof. I gotta love the gumption.
Edit: in other news, King threw more strikes in 5 pitches than Chapman threw in 15. Chapman should be benched.
Yeah but the other Chapman royally f*cked up.

oh totally. I'm just looking at the balls and strikes. Pitcher Chapman is just too inconsistent.
Endlessly amused that the single most well-known thing about the A's this year will likely be their catcher's butt.
Good to see Shohei waking up a little!
My wife's one-year foray into following baseball was very close to abruptly ending.

Stupid sexy Murphy.

As a Blue Jays fan and human being, I’m absolutely thrilled with this development.
A kid over here is three outs away from back-to-back perfect games.
Roki Sasaki is the name, imagine the calls he'll be getting from MLB scouts...
(update: PG gone - he got swapped in the ninth and his replacement threw a wild pitch )

If you're a bear then yes, I did go to the wrong college

You can come hang out in the college football thread anytime with us.
Americans are so weird.

Hang out in the College Football thread if you want to see CarlBear a little less smug... I hear he's rooting for Stanford this year.
Speaking of changing allegiance (and getting on topic), I doubt whatever the Phils are trying to do this year is going to work. Their UZR and DRS are going to be... sub par based on their roster and I don't think they can overcome that with the pitching and hitting. I may have to start rooting for the Mutts. Or just enjoy watching the highlights of them being a average or below average team. Again. It's not a good sign when you get excited that your team finished at .500 or above.

BURN THE HERETIC
The mid-90s Mariners tried that and managed to turn 3 hall-of-famers and some hall-of-really-good'ers into a grand total of 2 playoff appearances, one of which ended in the ALCS.
Alright, I'm mostly fine with embracing my fellow Yankee fans as "being the worst" but today was total bullshit.
I hope some people catch some permanent stadium bans.
Hey! Remember last year, when the Cubs played the Pirates?
Well, i'm sure nothing so weird would happen aga....
.........Ah.
+1 to fellow Yankees fan Jomboy here. Embarassment. I hope a whole clutch of these assholes catch stadium bans.
Hey! Remember last year, when the Cubs played the Pirates?
Wow. "Come out to the ballpark today, Cub fans, it's 'Pad Your Average' day for the home team."

Imagine what Yankees fans would have done if the um psn made those shitty calls against the Yanks in Yankee stadium...
