Random thing you loathe right now.

Storybook Brawl a game I had been really enjoying and playing a lot of has been bought by a crypto company. Deleting the shortcut from my desktop right now sigh...

A commercial fishing boat went down this morning in Newport. Deckhand is dead. The captain, Mike, is probably dead. I sold him some flashers for commercial salmon fishing a couple days ago. He was old and barely making his body work. Just weird and sad. Don't know what happened.

I used Bittorrent this morning and a pop-up came up asking me to buy tokens to "boost my download". After I closed it, my speed was absolute crap. When it downloaded (because it stalled several times), I was only getting about 10-100 kbps. Uninstalled, and downloaded qBittorrent. My download on the same torrent jumped to about 10 MB/s and stayed stable. It was finished downloading before I finished filling out the uninstall survey for Bittorrent telling them exactly why I switched.

I also use qBittorrent, having read it's the best available free torrent client.

Always used uTorrent but it's been a couple years since I grabbed anything.

Switch to newsgroups mate. So much better.

OK, boomer!

I'm serious though. Full speed downloads from jump, no throttling, and secure connections so your ISP can't see what you're downloading. It's a bit more labor-intensive to set up than torrents but so much worth it in the end.

Think they had some issues a few years back with malware getting snuck into their distros. I have been using qBittorrent as well for a few years now. Don't use it often but it seems to get the job done.

I’m tired of people complaining about some media because they had to explain something to their kids while watching it. Isn’t that your job as a parent? Congratulations, your kid learned something about the world today and you were there to help them process it.

Except 30 year old useless pop culture references. My kids begged me to watch Family Guy back in the day. When they were finally old enough, the one condition was that they couldn’t bother me with 800 questions about all the reference “jokes” they would surely not understand.

The combination of (a) my youngest daughter's habit of changing her icloud password couple of months without any reason; (b) her lack of care for actually keeping track of her passwords; and (c) her dropping her phone fairly regularly.

The combination of (a)-(c) resulted in her having a phone that she dropped and the screen shattered to the point of it being non-functional, with no-way to log her into an older phone so she can use it tomorrow. Of course, she claims she never changes her passwords (which is a lie, because I get the email notifications she does so) and denies having done so when presented with proof.

So, despite the time required to change her screen only taking an hour or so, it will feel like an year or so to her.

And of course, because I don't know the password she changed it to, and neither does my wife, we are the bad guys in this whole situation.

So be the bad guys:
"Well honey, I guess you don't have a phone now."

Sounds like an opportunity to teach her about password managers... At least she got the 'change your passwords often' part.

Oh we are. Luckily for her, while she was in a grumpy mood this morning because no phone, she didn’t take it out on us. She is just sulking and being overall grumpy. That’s something that we allow, as long as she doesn’t take it out on the rest of the household.

Those only work if she actually updates the passwords in the manager. This is a case of her ADD having a huge impact on her tech management.

I’m living up to my username. I have some issue that is making it so that I’m perpetually nauseated, tired, in pain and just generally blechy. I have to wait to get this taken care of and I’m getting some stuff done to hopefully find the cause, but I’ll have to wait like a month minimum to find out. Meaning I’m stuck eating potatoes, pasta, rice, gelatin, apple sauce, and bread, and even with this I’m immensely nauseated. I want to be able to eat normally, or at least things with flavor. Grumble grumble grumble.

I have similar symptoms pop up from time to time and was diagnosed with Gastritis. There are over the counter meds I took to reduce it and they worked super well for me. Might be worth a shot while you wait!

We appreciate the hope, Dysplastic, but given the complicated underlying issues the likelihood of it being something that can be easily handled with OTC drugs is low. We need to investigate it to make sure it’s not super serious, then worry about any changes to the treatment regimen after that. It’s just that the specialists are backed up with patients these days.

So, you might say the specialists are consti-patiented?

I know…. The exit is that way

Too bad they aren't omni-patiented...

On a serious note, do you think its Crohn's? It is rare in young adults but I had a friend who had it since his mid to late 20's.

Have you recently quit smoking? I know my (ex) brother in law kept his Crohn's and Colitis under control with nicotine inadvertently... it was only once he quit that he realized he had both.

Sorry, was asleep almost all day. My family has a strong history of GI issues. I have been diagnosed with stomach ulcers, eisonophilic gastroenteritis as well as a pre disposition to some scarier things. I have never been a smoker, though. I admit I am nervous because the last time I felt like this was when I was diagnosed and they had also found polyps when doing a colonoscopy (I was around 20 years old), they were non cancerous growths, though apparently I caught them just at the end of the right time, it’s highly unlikely, to the point of just being mentioned because it’s technically possible and my anxiety is working overtime with an overthinking brain. I’m just worried as how I’m feeling and how my sugars are looking compared to my diet is about the same as when these diagnoses/initial colonoscopy/endoscopy happened.

Wrong thread

Sprained my ankle Monday on a step outside. No big this used to happen 15-25 years ago a lot when I played basketball actively. Ice, elevate, ibuprofen.

Now Thurs I had an appt so walked a bit today. Seemed ok.

Sit down tonight after the kids are asleep and my wife says WTF. The whole side of my foot is bruised and purple. My toes are purple. Uh...

Not sure if here or Corona Virus tales, but I am freaking hating how slowly my brain and general physical stamina are returning after covid. I am...very grumpy at times while teaching. Very frustrating.

Writing my resumé is a huge loathe.

I'm way too humble (or insecure), so talking myself up a lot makes me feel gross, arrogant and fraudulent. Like, even in bits where I'm just telling the truth.

And then I worry about how much personality is too much personality. Can I live up to the personality in my text in the real world? Do people even care about personality in a resumé when most are run through the HR department's algorithm first. But then, do I want to work in a place that runs a resumé through an algorithm? Probably not.

What this pandemic has done to my nerves.

I have been enjoying Elden Ring since it dropped. I am currently working on what is agreed to be the hardest boss in the game. I am at 81 attempts so far, so yeah, considering before this, the most I had on a boss might have been 15, and the average is probably down around 3? This is a hard boss.

Last night, I changed my tactics, and saw some real progress. My heartrate shot up, my stomach churned, and before the fight ended in a somewhat predictable failure, I could see light.

But my body wasn't happy. This was a stress response. The reward for my progress and excitement? A tension headache that lasted until I went to bed, including a brief bout of light nausea.

I have spent a lot of time during this pandemic dealing with fresh anxiety problems. I am finally off the meds after nearly 18 months because I can go about my day-to-day life without feeling constantly wound up. But that stress response still kicked my ass, and it wouldn't have just a couple years ago.

I feel you Michael - I'm having a lot of trouble drumming up enthusiasm to play stressful games. Just don't have the appetite for them.

Yeah my wife pointed out that some games seem to be making me more stressed and angry instead of relaxing me. Think it is Rocket League, but only when playing ranked. I have fun on casual nights playing in GWJ rooms. But ranked was taking a toll on me last month. Think I'm giving that up this season.
