Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous

I believe there are mods that instantly win the crusade battles too, as an alternative to running auto mode.

So debating if I get this along with the expansion pass. Figure I might as well do it all in one swoop.

Yeah, it didn't take me long to get the season pass after the game launched.
I think I waited for the first sale and nabbed it.
edit: looks like I nabbed it for 20% off Jan 27th

So I'm in Act 2 and have just completed Leper's Smile and I've hit some serious game ending bugs.

The first was in the army camp where, if I entered a tent then all the characters would disappear, along with the area exit buttons. that left me completed stuck and unable to leave whatever building I was in.

The second was attempting to get around that by saving outside the camp and resting - the next location I visited (inconspicuous camp?) was just a black screen with characters outlined in green.

Balls. I was sort of enjoying it there for a while.

Bloody hell Wrath isa buggy old mess isn't it? I see they still go in for those ridiculous difficulty spikes as well - just finished Act 2 and that fight between

Spoiler:

Minahgo, Staunton and Nureh took me several attempts to get right

, and now I'm in City all alone - nobody has spawned with my character, no companions or other NPCs.

if I have to do that fight again I'm going to be very cross.

Compared to the first game at release it is essentially bug free. Or maybe that game was just one of the most bugged games ever.
I wonder if they have managed to add bugs over time. Had very few bugs at release. That sure would be something.

I haven't logged into it in months (but I've completed two full playthroughs and most of a third) and after the first wave of patching, I can't remember any significant bugs.

I’ve had nothing but, however there are quite a few people pointing out that the latest patch appears to have broken a few things.

Ugh, that's frustrating. Stomp all the old bugs and introduce some new ones.

It mostly seems fixable by just exiting the game and restarting it. It's a bit of a pain but it's not the end of the world.

I'm now into the 3rd act, and while turning off the crusade management part certainly didn't worry me that much, now the game is making me wait for it to go forth and conquer in my name. I could do with a "skip time" button or something.

I am enjoying the game, I certainly wouldn't say that I'm not, but much like Kingmaker I am finding I'm either splattering everything in front of me with relative ease, or I'm getting stomped on like I'm an insignificant ant. There's so much going on in pathfinder - class builds, how all the different mechanics work, the somewhat anti-intuitive mechanics like how invisibility doesn't actually make you invisible, it just gives a big boost to stealth - that it's practically impossible to keep track of it all. that same background frustration with it is still there.

Act 3 is notorious for that.
Apparently you can randomly run into level 19 enemies that will crush you into a pulp...

I remember really liking the kingdom management part of king maker until I got near the end of the game and it became impossible and my kingdom failed. Are the crusade parts in Wrath the same? Is it possible not to fail them without having to watch YouTube videos?

I’ve just turned it off. Honestly I don’t feel like I’m missing anything. The only ‘annoyance’ is that exploration of the world map is gated behind some forts that you have to siege and destroy / win over. The game will do that for you if you turn off the crusades, but in its own time. So you have to wait.

Giving this a go. With RPGS I normally always roll a Rogue but usually Rogue party characters are the most interesting leading me to have two in the party. So I've started by rolling a Human paladin, Warrior of the holy light.
He's an Andoren diplomat and follower of Iomedae. Getting Angel mythic path prompts which look suitable.

Never mind I worked it out

Asking for a tip:

Spoiler:

When the Hand of the Inheritor turns up, should I go off to Pulura's fall straight away or go and level up a bit? I'm level 10, mythic path 3, and just been and recruited arueshelae. Frankly he feels a little suspect.

Spoiler:

Pulura's Fall was something I put off for quite a while, but I think you can go earlier than I did. As I recall, it's a lot of social stuff and not a ton of combat.

As for the NPC you had a theory about

Spoiler:

He's exactly what he seems to be: he's an angel, so he's trustworthy, but also somewhat inflexible. There are a couple of moments with him that are legitimately cool, and a few where his uncompromising nature complicates things. But if you're LG or NG, you don't have to worry about him leading you into traps or whatnot. That's now how he operates.

So far having two paladins in the party is proving to be unstoppable.

And........now there's a severed head in my inventory?

That’s companion quest related. They are heavy heads though so best left in your stash.

Yeah, paladins are as well-suited to beating down demons as you'd hope they'd be. I specced my Angel build as a paladin/oracle and was very pleased with the results.

Re-installed wrath of the righteous and started a new game. Unfortunately, my number one bug with both pathfinder games is still an issue. Every now and then, perhaps triggered by alt-tabbing, my keyboard stops working. Sometimes it's just the game that stops accepting keyboard input and windows is fine, but usually, the only solution is either reboot the pc or unplug/plug-in the keyboard.

Nice. Got me some hell knights.

So much of my progress through this game basically follows this pattern:

1. Breeze through multiple trash hoard fights without worrying too much about buffs or spells beyond cantrips.
2. Hit mini-boss battle. Get a kicking. Decide whether to reload or not and buff properly before trying again. This is entirely dependent on when my last save was. (Saving a lot really helps), OR:
3. Hit main boss battle and get wiped out in seconds.
4. Go back to last save. Progress to point before main boss battle. Buff with everything I think I'll need and try again.
5. Swear at myself because I forgot to save just before the battle, and try that all again because the buffs apparently didn't work. Some times I remember to save, sometimes I don't. We'll assume I did.
6. Spend a good 30 minutes going through the boss battle trying to work out what I'm being hit or debuffed with, and what out of the 17,000 spells and abilities Pathfinder provides you with you need to use to counter those effects.
7. Go back to previous save and rest up now knowing what counters I think I'll need.
8. Swear at myself again, go back to the previous save and remember to adjust all my spells and abilities accordingly before I rest up so that I'm ready.
9. Generally speaking, I then have a fun, enjoyable boss fight of attacks and counters, using each of my companion's abilities to complement each other and get through the fight. Sure I'll take some hits and damage, but I get there.

Honestly, if that final step wasn't as fulfilling as it's been, I'd have probably given up. Wrath of the Righteous is much better at it than Pathfinder was for sure, but you really are left with the impression that Owlcat haven't always remembered the "fun" part in video games.

And yet, all that said - and I know I've said this before - I wouldn't say I'm not enjoying myself. Drezen is a really well designed, fun, meaningful gaming "act" that is genuinely one of the best cRPG scenarios I've ever played. Act 3 through starts to feel like they've gone back to being Dark Souls rather than a cRPG mostly focused on storytelling. It's all about failing so you learn to succeed.

In Dresen and suddenly I can't use any spells or abilities. Clicking on the portrates at the bottom of the screen does nothing.

Going into the character screen I can't change from my main.

Solved that problem.
Liberated Drezen
Became an angel.
Discovered that sleep spells + coup de grace work really well.
My horse bit a sucubus to death.

You should see all the earlier comments on how hearty and lethal horse companions are

Slow but steady progress through Act 3. There are bugs a plenty in the game, ranging from the annoying (if Seelah's horse just stands there and does nothing one more time I'm sending it to the knackers yard) to the really irritating - I've had several instances where regenerating enemies just refuse to die, even if I hit them with whatever they are vulnerable to. That's led to a couple of restarts, with one fight in particular being far harder than it should because even though I'm warded against disease (thanks Angel Mythic path) it's still applying damage and negative levels each and every round.

The Mythic Spellbook system also appears to be just odd - I lost quite a few spells in the last update and apparently have to select them again.

However, as a game it's still managing to be more than enjoyable enough to persevere with. Just.

I'm enjoying it except for the parts where I have to stop having fun and move counters around a map and fight crusade battles.

Good riddence

Spoiler:

Camellia

you won't be missed.
