So good to hear Julian's voice again

Likewise! He's been a busy bee, but things are calming down a bit

*** Amoebic considering FFXIV ***

Dooo itttt!

It’s too bad the free trial is currently closed. It was a great way of trying out the game.

00:01:39 Vampire Survivors
00:15:09 Infernax
00:20:12 Old World
00:27:54 Triangle Strategy
00:38:10 Final Fantasy XIV
00:45:20 Steam VR

Great to hear Julian on again, I was concerned that he'd just departed from GWJ without any fanfare, but clearly he was just 'on a break' to quote a certain 1990's sit-com.

I did notice that the Meta Quest 2 was considered to be a device that cannot produce higher resolution VR games and was deemed 'lesser' than other headsets. I would counter this by saying that it can be hooked up to a PC via a cable or strong and reliable WiFi to stream the video to the headset. This is how I play SteamVR and Rift VR games onto my MQ2 and it works extremely well. It's like having two platforms on the same headset.

Keep up the excellent work!

Picked up Vampire Survivors almost immediately after that discussion and it -is- amazingly fun. But I'm a long way from surviving long enough yet.

I've been trying it on and off for a few weeks. I finally broke down and looked at some strategy suggestions, and I made a lot of improvements. Today I actually lasted 30 minutes!

I was playing yesterday, had a decent build going, made it to 28:43 and then suddenly I couldn't kill anything fast enough and then lost

Immediately fired up another run and tried again

I finally got through to the 30 min mark, but only in the Library with a specific character. Haven't been able to do more than that yet, but have started getting some nice upgrades

It's great to hear Rabbit again! I also enjoyed a GWJCC that was just people talking about games. The topics are really fun sometimes, but every now and then it's nice to hear more conversation about the games people are enjoying.

I started playing Infernax on GamePass and although I felt the same apprehension Rich mentioned about the subtext seeming a little bit edgelordy, I have to commend the devs for doing difficulty/accessibility options the right way. The game offers two difficulty levels and says they intend the game to be played in the harder one. That's ok, I definitely picked the casual one, mainly because it adds extra checkpoints. Having to repeat sections of levels is one thing I find really frustrating in a lot of games that intend to be challenging. But on top of that, the accessibility options include a "cheat code" section. The first time you try to access it, you get a warning that basically says: "We intended this game to be challenging but we understand some people will struggle with that, so here are some cheat codes." If you're ok with that, they give you two cheat codes (invincibility and infinite jumps) that you can toggle at the checkpoints and can use to get through a section where you get stuck. I think their warning also has to do with the fact that you can use the infinite jump cheat to get to sections of the map that you're not supposed to be able to reach early in the game. Either way, the codes are presented in a way that is not disdainful to the player and that explains what the intention of the developer is. I think it's something other devs could learn from.

Free trial resuming Feb. 22.

Has anyone made a good mech cockpit VR game, yet? That's what I am waiting for. I have wanted to sit in a mech cockpit since I saw videos of those Battle Pods in fancy arcades.

I’ve played hundreds of hours of FFXIV and am really searching my brain for anything in a cutscene that would be considered “near pornographic.” The original game I can recall having a male gaze to some of the cutscene direction, though. I think that becomes less of a thing in the expansions.

I was recommended Iron Rebellion a while ago. Haven't ended up picking it up
