Elden Ring Catch-all

Preloading for PS4 should start at around 11pm CST tonight, fully 48 hours before the scheduled release. I can hardly wait for Thursday night!

I can only post so many excited ferret pictures.

Fine. Here's an excited hamster instead.

Just pronounce it 'Ulden Rung' and you'll fit right in bro.

GMG codes are out! Preloading on Steam now (47GB).

Preloading it on ps5 now! I genuinely feel like a kid at Christmas I might sneak in a midnight character creation tomorrow.

By some strange coincidence, I am also preloading on Steam!

Never been more excited for a preload.

Review embargo lifts in about 25 minutes. We're all going to be mighty disappointed if it turns out to be a huge heap of crap...

Somehow doubt it, though.

If they hadn't held the network tests, I might have some tiny lingering doubts. But it's hard to imagine we'd have gotten through those without the internet sounding the alarm if we were in for a letdown.

Judging from early reactions to the network test, I think our ceiling is "the ultimate culmination of everything From has been trying to do for the past few decades" and our floor is "a solid From game."

FTFM.

I don't think we have much to worry about:

PS5 version is 98 on Metacritic

Elden Ring - Easy Allies Review

Elden Ring Review Like Nothing Else "Buy, Wait for Sale, Never Touch?"

I have to rely on Best Buy Canada and the Canadian Postal system to see if I get my game the morning of or whether I cancel my physical preorder and go digital. I've been refreshing my order status hourly.

Wow! Elden Ring is currently sitting at 97 average score on OpenCritic with 91 reviews. I was expecting some good scores, but not this good.

It's gonna be a long wait until Friday!

I came here to post Skill Up’s review. He’s designed so it can be listened to without spoilers, which I did. A quote from it, ‘This is a double album with FromSoft at the peak of their creative power. Unfathomably large, fathoms deep and utterly remarkable.’

Thanks for posting that review, Dyni.

So this game is basically a f**king masterpiece, then? As theharpomarxist suggested earlier, it is the apotheosis of the Souls games.

My resistance to another Souls game is crumbling fast. The only thing holding me back.... The only doubt I have is the size of the game. Is this game just too damn big for me? The reviewer's projection that this is a 100 hour game has me worried. I don't know where I would find the time, with everything else I have going on. It will take me months to complete (and I'd very much want to complete it... or at least get very close to it).

I hope From Software releases some kind of wiki for the game, so that us slow players can get hints and tips when everyone else has finished it and moved on.

That's the quote that led me to crack. It gave me the Red Dead Redemption 2 chills.

I know that I will be missing out on something extra-ordinary if I don't play this.

EDIT: Basically, if my PS5 isn't for a game like this, then what is it for?

Polygon Recommends

Elden Ring is FromSoftware’s best, most accessible, and difficult game yet.

Do I want 4k on PS5 and shiny trophies or do I want it $10 cheaper on PC and just live with 1080p for now?

These review scores are making it hard to stick with my decision to finish Horizon Forbidden West first.

That's kind of my own hangup, although I'm getting close to breaking and getting it for PC. The only of the From games I've played is Dark Souls, and my impression was that it was not necessarily just something you pick up and play when it's convenient if you're busy with other things. And the lack of a true pause could also be an issue since my gaming time isn't always uninterrupted. But it really looks like it hits so many of the right notes, otherwise. And more teleport points and shorter boss runbacks would make it feel like it's a lot more respectful of my time.

That's certainly the way I played previous games. I'd be playing two- or three-hour long sessions, pretty much daily. Bonfire-to-bonfire. Bonfire-to-boss. Boss-only sessions. I just cannot make that level of commitment now, and I fear that I'll make less progress with Elden Ring precisely because there are so many different routes.

Yeah. It got me as well. Putting everything else (game wise) on hold is feeling like the right decision.

Do I need to play this, and how many controllers will I break if I do?

Eurogamer says it's "Essential" so I guess you do.
