I really liked that movie when it came out.

At one point I was traveling and had a layover in Colorado's Denver Airport, so I watched that movie on my iPad. It could be that I was traveling and very tired, but I sobbed like a baby at the end of that flick. In front of god and everyone in the airport.

Coen Brothers' True Grit is a great movie.

The courtroom scene is hilarious. But, it's also one of the most legally and evidentiarily correct depictions of courtroom cross examinations in all of cinema.

Which, like most of the dialogue in the movie, is almost verbatim from the book.

Yes. The book is great. A real American classic. Everyone should read it.

Unfortunately, after I read it I went and checked out Charles Portis' other books. They are, very much, NOT great. He seems to be one of those tragic authors who had one and only one great book in him.

I have watched that movie at least six times and it always seems fresh which each rewatching. There is not a weak performance from start to finish. The dialog is truly some solid stuff.

Coen Brothers' specialty. That's why I love O Brother so much. But nearly all their movies have great dialogue.

Pretty sure

I heard she voiced Gwen after the fact. It’s always fun to realise a actor you like was involved in another project you adore. It was similarly delightful to realise that Jack Johnson played Peter Parker.

Sad thing is I DO think I recognize her from Pitch Perfect 2. It was on screen in my house a bit there for awhile between my wife and daughter. They didn't watch much PP3 (hah!).

I think she is also the voice of Vi in Arcane

Completed DOTA book 1 and really liked it. However, the last episode was confusing. I didn't know who was on who's side. Demons, gods, dragons, elves, tigers fighting for reasons I'm not sure of. However, I think I got the main issue.

Spoiler:

Fake goddess has gone bat S crazy. Her super powerful mage lover wants to kill her because she let their daughter die.

The dragon knights capture the davion in order to free him of the dragon living inside him. However, none of this has anything to do with giant battle.

The elves are in chaos because the goddess they worshiping is nuts and half of them are now demons maybe. I don't get the demon thing. Did the take control of their minds or did he changed them into demons

Then the moon turned red because everyone was transported to Skyrim. No idea why the moon was red. Did the demon do that?

It was very pretty, oh so pretty.

All of Us Are Dead up to ep 9

Spoiler:

So the military now knows that people can be infected but show no signs of infection. They find out because the cellphone girl decides to eat her friend in the middle of the rescue camp.

So now the military is locking up everyone assuming everyone in the city is infected. The kids at the school get left behind for this reason.

One thing that isn't clear yet is what happen to the boy cellphone girl bit. Did the military kill him. Did they contain him and will he be a smart zombie. I guess we'll see.

I want to chime in and agree that True Grit is a great book and a great film. There's a melancholy in the book has that the film captures beautifully but both are funny too.

I was worried the starry cast would be off-putting but it didn't detract from the film.

Almost every interaction is interesting. I wonder how historically accurate the formal speech everyone uses is.

Spoiler:

I think they briefly showed his body in one episode. I presume he turned and then was gunned down.

I’ve watched to the end and enjoyed it. Over all I thought it was brilliantly done and very much my kind of zombie tale i.e. gut and heart wrenching. There were one or two odd character decisions and some scenes where an attempt to stretch out the tension in a scene served only to kill said scene and replace any tension with impatience and mild annoyance.

I hope they do a second season. It looks like they plan to.

Uhh, I'm a simple man? I see Iko Uwais, I click.

Commenters are calling this a movie sequel to Wu Assassins, which is...sure? I couldn't tell you how Season 1 ended: it's been a while.

K wow, Fistful of Vengeance was pretty terrible, even by Netflix standards. Pedestrian fight choreography, bad dialogue, bad acting and a train wreck of a story. The powers are never really explained, so there are no rules to be followed and stuff just happens because they decide it should.

I was cackling to myself like a hyena by the climax because it had just gotten so stupid. I suppose that is its one redeeming feature!

Spoiler:

Tommy, who was an insufferable wimp in Wu Assassins, is still insufferable in Fistful of Vengeance but they inexplicably transformed him into a melee combat bad-ass. Even a new character gets in on all the fighting despite no indication that she would be a martial artist. So every main character gets a bit of time to shine during the action moments but the end result is it waters down what should have been Kai's big moments and really diminished the threat of the baddies.

Finished Season 2 of Cheer. I don't know if there's a show that so wildly exceeded my expectations as much as Cheer did.

Same. I'd heard how good it was from numerous sources. I begrudgingly gave it a shot, and was so hooked. I think I enjoyed the second season more than first. And I absolutely loved the first.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2022, did not like. You have to check your brain at the door and then burn your brain in fire. After that you will need to bury the ashes of your brain and then salt the earth.

The story was bad. The acting wasn't good but that might have been because of the writing. Maybe two good kills. Just watch the original again.

Things I found dumb

Spoiler:

Girl in cop car didn't grab cop's gun. She also didn't use her phone to call for police.

Store guy called last girl from first movie instead of the police when he found out Leather Face was back.

Old Last Girl let Leather Face go for no reason. She also used the girls as bait for no reason. She also said Leather Face would never stop chasing the girls but he stopped chasing her.

No one on the bus called the police. None of the followers called the police. I would think one of them had to be friend.

The police were taking crazy lady to the hospital. More police should have been sent out when they didn't show up.

I guess leather face is a immortal demon zombie Jason type monster now. Human guy from the original was better and would have been more original.

Nice they can joke around after having all their friends murdered.

The first couple of kills were really bad. They didn't show the money shot. I thought the entire movie was going to be that way.

Heavy is the hand that forced fed it's message down our throats.

That girl from Grease had some bushy eyebrows.

Not good, nope. Evil Dies Tonight, nope.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a singular amazing film. Tobe Hooper did something very special in making it as unsettling as it is. Its one of those films I just don't go near any remake/sequel/prequel/reboot because there is no point.

Watched season 2 of Space Force. I know a lot of people couldn't get into the first season, but I think it's worth trying to. It hits the "genuinely good people trying to do the best they can in an absurd situation" spot for me like a lot of the co-creators other shows do (Greg Daniels also did Parks & Rec and Upload). It could have used a few more episodes though, it felt like only a half-season due to having even fewer than normal episodes.
A lot of stories were set up but didnt get a real resolution.

Spoiler:

Angela's PTSD from the events on the moon hasn't even really been noticed by the other characters yet. A lot of what actually happened up there hasn't been revealed to us either, so I think they're just saving it for later. Patton Oswalt's trip to Mars is left unresolved too. No word on if it's back on again now that they're no longer in danger of being absorbed back into the Air Force or having Naird replaced.

Angela's storyline isn't fully resolved, but Chan, I think, did recognize it for what it was when they were trapped in the elevator. As for the Mars Mission, the funniest thing to do would be for it to be back on, full-speed.

I liked both seasons, but I found the quiet jettisoning of a character from season 1 and the insertion of a new recurring scientist who we never really spend time with in season 2 a bit jarring. As ridiculous as the show gets at times, I feel that the core of Naird's character is his explanation about the orange from episode 3. Like you put it, "genuinely good people trying to do the best they can in an absurd situation."

Except for Kick. f*ck that guy.

That's why I think they're saving it for later. Tony sort of noticed it when talking with her as Chan's hype guy, she tried to talk about it to the Chinese astronaut but was brushed off, and Chan definitely did in the elevator.

Probably due to the pandemic screwing things up.

Watched Bigbug which is a french scifi comedy. In the future humans have androids and robots that do everything for them. Some androids go crazy and trap and kill people. Some androids join the humans to protect them. The film focuses on one dysfunctional as they try to escape their situation.

I liked the move. I don't think most people will like it. The color palate is very bright. The film is very French. Lots of sexual tension. This is the same directory as Amélie which I haven't seen but hear is just as weird. The movie reminded me of a Doctor Who episode without the doctor.

I'm not sure how long it is but it felt pretty long. However, I was never bored. I think it will drag for most people though. I think the best thing about the movie is the world building. It is just a wacky high tech world with flying cards and walking dildos.

Just started watching jeen-yuhs, and it is fascinating. I really love Kanye's Monster album, but there is so much background being filled in because I haven't closely followed his career.

I finished Inventing Anna last night and enjoyed it a lot. I think I’m going to wind up going down some podcasts rabbit holes to find out more about the real life story.

Also this may be what motivates me to get back to watching Ozark again because I’m finding Julia Garner fascinating in every role I see her in.
