i can't find it again but apparently you get only one shot with character names... until they get something squared away with amazon which could be years from now
so if you think you're going to delete a toon be sure to give it a throw away name

I'm planning on playing on Avesta

I have not decided on my server yet, I'm waiting to hear what the streamers choose before making a decision. I've been playing on the RU server, have a Sorceress up to 50, and she's a blast to play! I have another friend who loves a pally and one who is playing a gunslinger (at least I think that's the name of the class, it's the one with 3 different guns).

All of the classes play so differently and I can't wait until this counts for real! On the RU server I'm using it as an opportunity to learn the game and the systems. Chaos Dungeons which you can do at 50 are amazing. Tons of enemies thrown at you and a 5 minute timer to kill them all. There is also a tower where you ascend in levels (which is gated by your current item level). Did I mention how cool the ship sailing is? OMG! You can land on islands out in the ocean and do some questing.

I'm way too excited for the release of LA. I want it to have the legs that WoW did, which I played for many years. Based on what I am seeing, there's going to be a ton of great things to do in LA that should appease just about any playstyle.

I tried doing this for New World and it ended up not to matter... I figured it's better to get something up front and decided on so people can act and then just have to weather the change if one is needed.

From what I've read, most of the popular streamers are going to Azena. Asmongold is going to play on Galatur.

And while I agree it's better to get something up front, I don't want to run into the situation where I did with New World. Some servers with a 2hr queue and others you can get right into. In the end it most likely won't make a difference as things even out (as well as having the marketplace based on region and not server based) will help a lot as well.

That's my point... They ALL had 2hr queues until they added new servers...

Preload is up on steam. Hoping the game is a suitable distraction from life.

Downloading now. Bummer that summoner is no longer one of the launch classes. That is the one I enjoyed the most during the testing weekend.

Preload complete! Squeeeeee!
Oh crap, have to work tomorrow including overtime. Reeeeeee!

Picking a server is already making me anxious. From the 10 second Google and Reddit-fu I've done it seems like the ones to bet on for US West are Valtan and Mari.

It's not the same but the Sorceress is a lot of fun (I also felt the same way about summoner). I got her to 50 on the RU server and did some chaos dungeons, as well as getting her first ultimate. A LOT of damage and fun to be had.

Well, I didn't get around to trying the martial artist classes. And one of them supposedly is a melee/ranged hybrid that sounds interesting.
I wanted to like the stealthy demonic assassin classes but could not grok them for the life of me.

I was a fan of the Death Blade, but it will be my first alt. I'm starting off with the Sorceress.

So practice makes perfect i guess... This is the smoothest launch for a MMO i've seen.

FYI we have a 'Gamerswith Jobs' guild created.

Is the guild cross server?
We may not be out of the woods yet with the push of new users once early access ends.

I made a sorc and like it okay so far.
I also made the soul fist which is the martial arts class that is hybrid melee/raged and it seems cool so far.

Not sure about cross server... some things hint that it is, but no clue at this point.

I guess I'll just look up the guild in the guild tab and I am sure there is an "invite me" button

There is and the best way to get invited... the invite option from the UI is time based and only works if both parties are online at the same time. The other way it queues up and i can just hit accept...

Speaking of which do we know a Daddyhealer?

Guilds are not cross server. Have to be on same server per what I find online.

Cross-server stuff is region based and only allows to group with stuff that is instanced based, not open world stuff.

I kind of like it. I think the graphics are good and I like the interactions where characters jump, climb, etc. No server issues after the steam install and no impossible to find quest targets due to the influx of new players.

Will play more tomorrow, just kicking along the main story.

Am I doing something wrong? My character only attacks in the direction they’re facing, if I target an enemy in another direction he won’t turn to target them, he’ll just keep attacking forward until I manually move to reposition. I had to switch to playing with a controller because it makes the game unplayable with m&k against large groups of enemies.

There's different control schemes that you were able to choose from at the start.

I used qwerty and left mouse button attacks.

My attacks always go where my mouse is pointing.

I didn’t change the controls at all from the defaults because it looked more or less identical to the Path of Exile setup- what do I need to change? It looks fine in the settings but the character just won’t turn to face anything unless I manually move him. I would be fine playing with the controller but it also makes any non-combat actions a chore.

I am not well informed, but I believe I saw mention of specific classes that are direction specific for attacks. I suspect this is the cause.

I think I figured it out- I must have bumped the controller at some point prior to loading into the game world and it switched to controller mode and wouldn’t switch back- apparently this also neuters the m&k controls. I quit and restarted and everything is working fine now, though I have to keep the controller unplugged or the game immediately flips back and I can no longer aim with m&k.

I was only able to dip in during lunch to create my first character. Even clicking through the front end, this game looks amazing.

I joined US West's Mari server if anyone is interested in looking me up. IGN is also Maclintok. I'm waiting to see where my other friends go in terms of guilds before I pick a team.

If I'm not too bleary eyed I'm going to hop in for some quick questing tonight after my bit of overtime. Because I'm a freak I'd also like to test out their controller support, too. There looks to be a ton of stuff going on in this game so I may have to satisfy myself with M/KB for the long haul.

I too had controller issues once I tried using a controller. I had to kill and restart the game to get it working properly again.

If sending guild join requests on NA East Avesta and not using same tag as forums post here with with name to help speed up entry.

Started off with mouse QWERTY but the game insisted on having me right-click to Move despite having picked the other option. Felt too weird so Switched to controller, which is even more bizarre. It’s still impressive how they managed to map as much as they did to the controller. Kind of unavoidable to do some trickier menu actions with the mouse such as dragging things around the inventory.

I don’t know if I’m feeling the Gunner. The 3 stances definitely makes it very micro managey. Spinning up a martial artist tomorrow to do a comparison.

I got my own stronghold, so that is neat. I hope in time I can decorate it to be my own. Dark. Brooding. Unwelcoming.

One super beginner tip:
Don't give up on a class until you level up and get some skill points.
If you find a skill or two that feel good on the class but lack oomph, putting skill point(s) in them will make a world of difference.

I also find a good combat flow is to open with a skill or two before following up with auto/right click attacks.
For a lot of classes, herding is also beneficial. (even for melee)

Sorc is my favorite still and the one I've progressed the most. (almost 16)
Assassins - I love the theme and look of the shadow hunter but the deathblade has better closing skills and is more fun to play
Soul fist is interesting in that it plays more like a Sorc. Its fun but I like the Sorc better
Wardancer feels good and is apparently pretty tanky
Gunslinger has some neat skills but is squishy and more complicated to play with the 3 weapons
Artillerist - lots of AOE and has shields for tankiness
Gunlancer is supposed to be one of the S tier classes but the slower and slower moving classes don't resonate with me
Paladin seems cool but I get the feeling that players will pigeon hole you into playing a certain way since they are and essential end game class

I am looking forward to the other classes being introduced. I am especially looking forward to the Summoner as that was such a great class in the beta. The Sorc is a good class to hold me over until then. I want to say I am also looking forward to the Arcana because of the card mechanics/theme. I liked the destroyer in the beta as well and the lance master looks cool.

I tried out the Bard and I don't know, I just really like the mages. Its not just about ranged damage because the gunners are okay. I should put more time in with the hawkeye/archer to see if he follows the same enjoyment as the Sorc and Bard.
