NFL 2021: The Super Bowl thread

Pages

The Super Bowl!

Teams: Rams (12-5) at Bengals (10-7)

Where: SoFi Stadium, Inglewood, Calif. (which is the Rams home field, duh, yet the Rams are the visitors and I hope they get the visiting locker room)

When: Feb 13 (that two Sundays from now), 6:30 p.m. or so

TV: NBC, which means we get Al Michaels and Here'sAGuy Collinsworth

Halftime: Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar

Odds: Rams +4; o-u is 49.5 (source)

Programming note: I'll leave this thread up for a couple of weeks, then post a postseason thread after the game and a draft thread sometime in April. After that, who knows?

For your postseason sports fix: Rugby! Six Nations starts this weekend. (Allez France!) It's streaming on Peacock, which also carries the European Champions Cup (in progress) and the English Premiership (also in progress). This, however, is not a rugby thread and there should be no discussions of the ridiculous notion that an NFL team could, with a few weeks practice, dominate rugby on the world stage.

I am not vaguely enthused about this matchup except wanting Cincinnati to get a ring for the first time. Being they gave up 10 sacks vs. the Titans and now they're facing Aaron Donald And Friends I don't think that seems like a super-likely thing right now, but I can at least vaguely hope for them as much as I care at all (which isn't much).

Will there be more Bengals fans than Rams fans? Or will there be more Niners fans?

Same. Just hoping for a close and interesting game, which is something we haven't really had since Eagles-Patriots after the 2017 season. Go Bengals I guess? I'm fine if the Rams win, which I'm expecting because they have a ton more talent on both sides of the ball.

DRAFT THREAD PLEASE

Uh the Winter Olympics start this week

We need a coaching thread first.

Jags interviewing Rich Bisaccia via Schefter.

It was only nine sacks, duh.

I'm at the "Ah hell no, not this again" phase of my Olympics interest. In a week's time, I'll be at the "How the hell was that only a 9.2?" stage of interest.

F**k it, I'll coach the Jags.

Summer > Winter

If the Titans managed to sack Burrow nine times, what the hell is going to happen when he faces Aaron Donald and Leonard Floyd?

I look forward to your first conversation between you and your new boss Trent.

Summer > Winter

Curling -----------------------------------------> Everything Else

Dang I was about to type curling > all

What is the sport where they cross country ski and then shoot stuff? That is a good one.

Curling is fun to watch, and the women's hockey gold medal game last time was goddamn amazing as well. But in general the winter sports being mostly for rich people/countries means there are fewer cool 'this person is the first to ever make the olympics from their country' moments.

Biathalon. What I really want is a Gold Medal Zone channel instead of a Red Zone channel; I don't really care about most of those sports at all, but I really like those moments of celebration where somebody has worked their entire life and they win the gold. Those are fun, but I'm not going to watch hours and hours of cross-country skiing or longer speed skating races to get there. Just don't care enough.

I believe it's called

Aka the biathlon

I remember being heartbroken during Montana to Taylor because CIN was my brother's second favorite team and I like Boomer Esiaison and hated the NFC and loved the poor, poor AFC and the Class of '83.

Here's hoping Joe Cool 2.0 wins and exposes That Fraud McVay.

Seriously, Kyle. Just hand off your call sheet, put your headset on the nearest bench, and take an Uber to the nearest bar for your next playoff game 4th quarter.

Me too. Well played Milky.

And shame on you Garion for liking summer olympics.

I'd like to cut out marathon and biking. They take up way too much screen time.

Otherwise I think synchronized swimming is amazing, except for the awful uniforms.

Too much of winter sports feel like X Games but less enjoyable.

This is true. I don't like any of the x-games stuff.

Eh, carry on.

All this Winter Olympics chatter suggests that no one's really all that into a CIN-LAR Super Bowl matchup.

I am looking forward to the first of many Joe Burrow Superbowl wins.

I just hate the two week wait.

I'm obviously on the minority here but I would not mind a Rams win.

I think Stafford deserves it. Cooper Kupp deserves it. Aaron Donald most definitely deserves it. I'd be happy if my boy Sony Michel gets another one. And the best punter in the league also deserves a ring.

The Bengals will still be great next year and they can use the chip on their shoulder to keep beating the Chiefs and the Bills until McCorkle is ready to be elite.

I think at least part of the reason so many folks are backing Cincy is because they are the historical underdog.

That and the fact that LAR fans don't really deserve a win, particularly at home. Cincy fans have been longsuffering through good times and bad. LAR fans are so apathetic their team has changed venues so often they often forget which city to fly to in order to watch a home game. And they couldn't even pack out their own home stadium for a playoff game.

For your Stafford, Kupp and Donald there's Ramsey, OBJ and Von Miller. + McVay.

Typically some combination of the latter rub people the wrong way.

I think the best part of this SB is regardless who wins it will be fairly tame on the obnoxious fan front. Cincy is self explanatory. The Rams probably have some real obnoxious fans but like what? 50? 100 of them?

I'm a Browns fan, so I hate the Bengals and will see Joe Brrr beating my team for the next 10-15 years, and I would still rather they win than the fanless mercenaries of LA.
