Fresno State didn't quite sneak back into the top 25, finishing 33rd in the voting.

But next year...

HAENER'S BACK

FRESNO STATE REVENGE TOUR 2022

UGA fans took 10 whole days to bask in their first title in four decades before melting down because the starting QB from that title, decided to come back for another year.

Bold preseason prediction: Alabama will be back in the national title game. Georgia won't.

That's no shade on Georgia. It just seems to me that state/federal law and/or SEC bylaws and/or the ESPN CFB playoffs contract requires Alabama play in the championship game against a rotating cast of Southern schools and, everyone once in a while, Ohio State.

Make or break for Satterfield at Louisville, year 4. Got his kids, his system, ACC down a bit. 8 or more wins feels like we are heading the right direction.

No bowl and we start shopping.

I have no idea why he thinks he get a better showing next year.

I like your hire of Lance Taylor. He was RB coach for Stanford in the Christian McAfery (sp) days, former ND RB coach. He's a good recruiter and teacher.

Notre Dame, even after collapsing against Ok State, has a lot of energy heading into the new year. Will be interesting to see how a first-time coach learns on the job...especially since ND opens at Ohio State this year!

Yes everyone excited about new assistant. Seems like all good signs for next season. QB sticking around for another season too.

Well, I tweeted this last night:

Clearly Kirby and Monken are victims of Stetson's absentee voting scheme to be QB1 that he orchestrated by using his position with the USPS.

The real answer, however, is money.

He probably knows that he won't go to the NFL (at least without proving himself via CFL,Arena or maybe USFL.) But, even if he gets beat out by one of our remaining 4 or 5 stars in the spring or early next season, he will be able to cash in a ton of NIL money. Basically, he's got one year guaranteed to make bank and I bet he does.

Personally, I'm not going to be surprised by him again. Do I think he loses his job to Vandergriff or Stockton, probably, but he is a great security blanket to have. We know our floor with him. And Kirby has made the whole culture about having to earn a starting spot. I'm sure he wants one of the young pups to beat out Stetson, but he's going to make em do it.

And hell, he definitely was better this year than in `20, I'd guess he's maxed out as much as he can, but a whole off-season as QB 1, or at least higher up the depth chart to get more support/coaching and maybe he can make another leap.

Ohh, I've got one too.

Bama doesn't make the playoffs next year. I think Bryce Young doesn't survive the season. They lose Evan Neal, who's probably going to be the first tackle taken in the draft off of an already suspect (by Bama's standards) OL line.

I think Bryce will need to throw the ball 40 to 50 times a game and I don't think he holds up for a second season of all out blitzes. Dude is smaller than the Mailman.

They lose two regular season games and don't make Atlanta.

Brilliant!

I’m really looking forward to the Cal game. You should visit!

I'll definitely be there. A group of friends already have an AirBnB booked within walking distance. I'll be staying in Chicago but depending on kickoff time will determine whether I head there the night before or just morning of.

Excellent! Keep in touch...I may have to get tickets. Would be fun to meet up and swap stories about the SEC being overrated.

I could investigate and see if Mrs. Iso may want to go. It would be fun to meet up and take the little to his first college football game.

Would be awesome to all meet up.

The SEC divides...

The Pac-12 Unites!

Notre Dame is a good first game. The crowd is pretty friendly to everyone, and the experience is pretty family friendly.

Total non-trolling.. legit question...

How/why did Texas A&M get the #1 recruiting class? I have nothing against A&M, in fact I know almost nothing about them other than Cal beat them in the Holiday Bowl 15+ years ago. But this is like saying Cal got the #1 recruiting class.. it just wouldn't make any sense? Is there some tradition or something else about College Station that I'm just totally unaware of that attracts recruits?

Alabama, Notre Dame, Ohio State... heck I'll throw Pac-12 USC in there for fun, are teams that I would associate with the #1 recruiting class. I'm sure Fed will chime in and I'm seriously not trying to troll. Perhaps his SEC compatriots who actually have competed for a national championship recently can vouch for them?

For a non-troll, that seemed very trollish.

Go check out our other recruiting rankings since Jimbo has been here. He's been recruiting at an elite level; this year happened to be amazing.

And as long as you're throwing stones, it's the #1 class of ALL TIME.

Its trollish because its your school And yes, I should have said #1 all time... that is probably the better question.

If I'm a "casual" NCAA fan and I'm asked to name 25 schools... I'm not sure Texas A&M makes the list. Lets be honest, Cal doesn't either, so in no way am I saying anything like that. That's why I'm asking the question. If you want to argue USC is terrible but hey, its Southern California and all it stereotypes and that's appealing to a recruit. Oregon is Nike. Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State there is enough tradition there. What is there at Texas A&M that I haven't heard about?

I'm pretty sure if I weren't here no one in this board knows anything that's going on at Cal, even if we make the Rose Bowl you're double checking if its UCLA. Hate to tell you Fed.. but if you're not here.. that's my perception of Texas A&M as well.

Fedaykin98 wrote:

That'd be the same Jimbo that got the school on probation for recruiting violations a couple years ago, correct?

He seems quite riled up about accusations of how they're using the new NIL rules.

Haha ok, see two great college football minds, @Carlbear95 and the coach of Alabama are wondering the same thing

First, Notre Dame does not recruit at that level...or hasn't over the last 25 years and more. ND cracks the top 10, but I can't remember a top 5 class. Perhaps Marcus Freeman turns that around, but ND isn't in the same boat as Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, and now Texas A&M.

Hey, if it's within the (extremely broad) rules, it's fair game. Saban may not like it if someone else thought of something first, but he'll sure as hell adapt. Remember when he complained about fast-paced, high-octane offenses and how it was the death of college football? Well, he sure as hell adapted. What's the over/under on the number of months before Alabama has a donor-funded endowment to support NIL deals?

Now that the Dawgs have gotten the Natty off of their backs, I would say that the Fighting Feds are easily the program that is most disconnected between their tradition/fan base/support and their on field achievements.

They have a huge and intimidating stadium, filled with fans that have their own name and very well-off booster network.

I'm sure Fed can provide more nuance, but my overall sense as an outsider is that before joining the SEC, the Aggies faces some real in-state headwind from their burnt orange neighbors that probably added just enough friction to prevent the program from really getting rolling.

Relatedly, this is why Fed and his fellow fans were less than thrilled to see Texas getting a It Just Means more invite.

Academic standards suck sometimes.

A&M isn't even close. Nebraska has a stranglehold on the top spot of this particular ranking.

A&M has had a winning record every season since 2010 and has been invited to a bowl game each year since 2009. The Aggies aren't usually great (although they've had their moments), but they're always a tough out in a tough conference.

Nebraska? Five straight losing seasons (four of them under lord, savior and alum Scott Frost, haha) and no bowl games since 2016. It gave me great joy to type that, in case you're wondering.

Remember, Nebraska was a top 10 national program for three-plus decades. This season? They had 84,000 people come out to watch them lose at home to a 4-3 Purdue team. Those jerks literally have nothing better to do than burn an entire Saturday watching bad Big 12 football.

Yep, those glory days are coming back to Lincoln any day now. Aaaaaaany day now. Suckers.

You actually are around people that are Nebraska fans that do this? Our company has a site in Nebraska and I never hear them talk like the Bugeaters are championship team like Aggie fan does.

Not personally, no, not since they bought my former employer and drove it straight into a ditch.

Cornhuskers Twitter is glorious, tho. So much suffering in 280 characters.

And yet, Jimbo is bending over backwards to deny it.

The real winner is stanfurd but in the opposite direction. Between like 2008 - 2018 they were far and away the most consistent and best team in the Pac-12. Frequently in the top 10 and almost always in the top 25. I think in the early mccafery and the luck years, they may have even started the season in the top 10 or even top 5, and you could still find $5.00 tickets on stubhub for their 50,000 capacity bandbox of a stadium for any game other than the Big Game.
