Rarely have I found myself disagreeing with Shawn more than his comments on Ghosts of Tsushima. The narrative isn’t the traditional samurai code. It’s the CONFLICT the protagonist feels as he’s forced to abandon his uncle’s teachings and honor and tradition as he continues through the story, as he needs guile and stealth and dirty tactics to save his homeland, losing his place in it in the process. The gameplay perfectly captures this, as you are able to choose different approach’s through much of the game, but at times you’ll be forced into honorable duels and at times you’re forced into stealth and backstabbing. It’s about coming to grips with a world that isn’t what the protagonist was raised for.
The gameplay perfectly matches the story…it’s just that this story isn’t about samurai living by a code that leads to victory.
Very happy to hear nice things about Chicory. I absolutely loved that game!
