NCAA Football 2021-22 Season

Yeah, I'm pretty leary about that hire as Lupoi seems to have a bit of history. Really, I'm a little worried about most of Lanning's hires so far. They seem extremely young and recruiting focused which is great as I think that is extremely important, if not #1 in college football. However, it sure seems like you'd want at least a couple veteran X & O guys on the staff especially with a guy who will be head coach for the first time.

If Stetson plays next year, he should sign a huge NIL deal with Bacardi or some other adult beverage brand.

He really is a great story though. I would love to say I had complete faith in the Mailman, but if you had told me that we would win the Natty with him before the season, I would not have believed you.

I do feel bad for JT, by all accounts he did everything he could to get ready for this season. Flew all the skill guys to a summer practice session out in Cali but then couldn't stay healthy. It actually seems like maybe they got too much practice in because Daniels and our expected starting receivers were all banged up to start the year.

I am fascinated by the Dawg's QB room next year.

I'm assuming Carson Beck hits the transfer portal. Does JT? Stetson? Does JT go pro? Stetson start running a hedge-fund and or try his luck in Canada? We also have a rising redshirt freshmen 5 star QB and an incoming high 4 star dual threat QB that just erased all of Justin Field's high school records.

And hanging above all of that is the possibility of Arch.

USPS. He could be the new Lance Armstrong.

Speaking of the Mannings, this Bennett being the unexpected QB champion when there were a string of other great QB's at UGA that couldn't get it done reminds me a bit of UT winning the championship the year after Peyton left with an unheralded Tee Martin, who just did his thing and waited for his turn, probably one year after he expected it (when Peyton came back for his senior season, surprising everyone).

Neither Tee Martin nor Stetson Bennett were likely to have pro careers. Both were what their teams needed in the moment, or at least weren't in the way of very deep and talented teams with every other position.

I think you absolutely want a good Xs and Os staff, player development (including strength coaches and nutritionist etc) and recruiters.

But if you are ranking those things, recruiting is clearly number 1, followed by development and then in a distant third Xs and Os.

Going into this year, you could find a whole host of commentators and hot take articles declaring that Dan Mullen was so much better of a coach than Kirby. Dan was supposedly a QB whisper, who took a former three star QB and won the East last year. Now Dan is looking for work because he forgot to recruit, I guess because he was so busy whispering.

Meanwhile, Kirby just won it all with this guy at QB:

Player Rating 247Sports Composite® 0.7832

Natl. 2569 History PRO 104 GA 286

Plus a former 3 star D-lineman that just finished in the top 10 in the Heisman voting, so I think his staff can check the player development box.

But, the reason that the Dawgs are where they are at is because of the Jimmies and the Johns.

Basically, you want to make sure that you guys stay in the top 10 of these rankings.

In fact, I'm guessing you will need to up your position as well, because I think USC is about to dramatically jump with the impending arrival of Caleb Williams and other incoming transfers.

And hell, even if Lanning and staff turn out to be liabilities in game-day coaching, they will likely leave a talent rich roster for the next guy.

Congrats BadFerret!

See you in the SEC championship next year.

Thanks, and yeah, I'm guessing we are destined for a rematch.

I mean, look at Georgia's schedule next year. Even if the Dawgs take a step back, I don't really see many chances for a loss in the regular season.

I think Bama with Bryce is clearly the favorite for next year, but, I do worry about his health. Seems like everyone's best shot will be to send the house against him and the dude is the same size, maybe even a tad shorter that Stetson (based on their post-game hug.) I'm sure y'all probably have another 5 star QB on the bench but....

Congratulations! Well deserved.
