NFL 2021: The Week 18 (!!!) thread

I think the Miami job is in the Jacksonville "oh God, please somebody work here" category at this point. Bad owner, bad legacy GM looking for a fall guy, uh . . . good weather?

I think Miami is worse. That opening is going to be one of those "so tell us how you're going to make our disappointing young QB live up to his draft billing?" spots.

Also, in Miami you'll know you can get fired for going 9-8. In Jacksonville, going 9-8 would get you a fat contract extension.

Might also earn NFL Coach of the Year award.

The Flores move was a big surprise. Points made above as to why. Wow, how can people like that be canned and others like Judge remain if this is the case?

Judge clearly has dirt in someone.

It's like the Geordi/Drake meme, but backwards.

Oh, I'd agree, but in both cases you've got bad owners, legacy terrible GMs, and weak rosters, but Lawrence alone makes it more appealing. I can't imagine anybody having success in either of those places at this point, but the leash is clearly a bit longer in DUUUUUUUVAL.

HAWG MOLLIES.

Even with all the bad personnel decision, I can only remember Gettleman for that.

Dolphins' owner Stephen Ross: I’m not taking Jim Harbaugh away from Michigan He fires the best coach of the ones fired and he refuses to try to recruit the most sought after non-NFL coach.

Translation: Harbaugh can't reject me because I'm rejecting him first.

If the football gods were just, the Jags would pursue Harbaugh and fire Baalke to seal the deal.

Or they could recruit the SF connection. Last time they were together they made a Superb Owl right?

To be fair, he's got a losing record against everyone.

Lies! Over the last two years, he's 1-0 vs. the Jets, Texans, WFT, Chargers, and Cardinals! He's undefeated in a very specific way!

I'm sorry you took the time to look that up.

It doesn't take much time to count up Panthers wins these last few years.

I have exactly enough fingers to count two years of Panthers wins.

Oh, and Rhule will be 0-6 lifetime against fired coaches if the Giants give Joe Judge the ol' heave-ho.

So Rhule's saving his good gameplans to use against winning coaches?

Savvy coaching, Mr. Rhule.

So, are we going to acknowledge the elephant in the room on the Flores firing?

I'll let a Reddit commenter do it:

Look Dolphins just because it’s called Black Monday doesn’t mean you…

Black NFL Coaches Appear Much More Likely To Be Fired With A Winning Record. From Forbes in 2018 right after Caldwell Face was fired. 4 years later, nothing's changed.

Speaking of winning black coaches getting fired, The Athletic pointed out how the Chargers fired winning coach Anthony Lynn over "game management" concerns, in order to hire Brandon Staley, whose game management probably cost them the playoffs last night.

Anyway, I'm adding Flores right next to Caldwell on my Jags coach wish list.

Time to recycle a meme...

Leftwich apparently has his eyes on Cardinals VP of player personnel (and former Pro Bowl safety) Adrian Wilson as his GM if he gets a head coaching job.

Which means if he got the Jaguars job and had his way, Trent Baalke would not be GM.

Leftwich just went to the top of my list. Not to mention this would add another to the NFL's very short list of black executives.

I guess he's saying the Colts loss was a bit of a shocker . . .

OK. Black Monday is over. Time to talk about the playoffs in the PLAYOFFS THREAD.

The Ravens losing the last six games of the season puts them in the position to draft one of the best DB's in the class. Unfortunately, they probably won't because of who his uncle is.

Irony.
