Nintendo Switch Catch-All 2.0

I love my switch but sometimes I get tired of the "Nintendo tax" (i.e. how everything Nintendo is more than other systems)

Deku deals Dragon Quest 11 is a good example

PS4 - $14.99
Xbox 1 - $14.99
Switch - $49.99

That year in review thing doubled my Metroid Hours so I don't know how accurate it is.

Why I pretty much only play Switch exclusives on my Switch.

At least Immortals has sale price parity now. But I would just wait for a better sale or play elsewhere with a price difference like that.

Hurray for rumors! Mario Kart 9 is speculated to be in development by an analyst and claims it has a new twist.

Normally I'd be skeptical but it's been long enough that a new Mario Kart actually makes a lot of sense.

Wait. WAIT. You mean they are working on another sequel of a game they have made sequels for every three years for the past 15 years?? No, I don't believe them!

It's more that it feels weird to release a new Mario Kart game without having new hardware to release it on. For the most part, it's only been one new Mario Kart per console, but the lack of sales of the WiiU and the Switch adding new life into Mario Kart 8's long-tail have effectively extended the game across two consoles. A new Mario Kart for the Switch feels like too much, but to consider it's been eight years since 8 first released, well, yeah, it makes sense.

It's easy to assume that they'll just keep pumping one game out after the next, but keep in mind a lot of those sequels also bounce back and forth between handhelds. So the amount of time between Mario Kart Double Dash (2003), Mario Kart Wii (2008), and Mario Kart 8 (2014) is longer than three years.

With 8 they expanded the roster to include Link and a couple Animal Crossing characters. Maybe with 9 they'll throw in the entire Smash lineup.

Bonus points if Sonic doesn't bother with a kart and just has a bunch of shoes that function like the tires...

Even still, I would play the sh*t out of a new MK game.

That speculation has been thrown about in leak rumors where the leaker called it (or possibly a different, new game) best described as Mario Kart x Smash, and the rumor included a big 2022 release calendar. I saw a video a couple days ago and decided to click and saw that. The list contained stuff already announced and dated like Kirby & Advance Wars, undated games like Bayonetta 3, Mario & Rabbids 2, Prime 4, & Splatoon 3, as well as Twilight Princess and Wind Waker HD re-releases, BotW2 this year, New DK Country, FE Heroes port, New Monolithsoft project, as well as new Pokemon Let's Go and Detective Pikachu games. Basically, all our dreams coming true in 2022. I'll believe it when it happens.

Legit question:

Why hasn't there been a greatest hits Mario Kart with 50+ courses?

Would that be too much awesome gaming for one game?

I mean, Smash has more content than any game could ever want.

And Mario Party frequently does this.

MK8 has 48 courses and a bunch are from earlier games. Not sure how a greatest hits would be different?

Plus, there's a limit as to how many courses you can plunder without having to redesign the course from the ground up anyway. SNES Mario Kart courses are too boring for modern game design tastes, for instance.

I haven’t played a MK game in a long time since I played enough of 8 on Wii U to satisfy me. I’d definitely be down for a new one.

From Nintendo's perspective, if they rerelease every old track in 9 then it'll be harder to get the players excited to see a returning favorite in 10. And they do put a lot of work into their remasters. MK8 was fully 50% remastered tracks and I expect to see that ratio continue.

Honestly, I want one of two things:

For them to actually have long-term DLC support to keep adding new tracks rather than just have a couple new DLC courses a couple months after launch and to then abandon it. Especially if they have a proper Battle Mode again.

Or, for them to make a mini-Mario-Maker style course creator that also allows you to share with friends or to the public (obviously with some degree of moderation, since you know people will make race tracks that are just a big penis drawing or spell out obscenities or something).

Either of these would work for me.

I don’t care about a new Mario Kart, although I’ll buy it at some point on release.

I want my Pikmin 4.

I introduced Pikmin to my son a couple years ago when he was 4 and he loves it so much. One night he started crying because he wanted Pikmin to be real and they weren’t. I’ve crocheted red, yellow, blue and white Pikmin stuffies.

I don’t know what the sales numbers have been but I thought 3 Deluxe had done well enough to merit continued development of another sequel.

Edit to add that apparently 3 Deluxe is the best selling Pikmin game to date with over 2 million units sold. I double dipped after having 3 on the Wii U and the experience is so much better, especially with multiplayer, which I love being able to do with both my sons (separately, of course)

Ohhh Diablo II is on sale. Would it be worth picking up?

No.

You've got better ARPGs to play. They're going to be doing some work to it, tweaks and whatnot, so I'd wait to see if the changes they make allow it to feel like a fresh experience. At this point all they've done is updated the graphics and have auto gold pickup.

K I'll keep playing Diablo 3 then. Thanks!

I've been enjoying D2, but it's completely as a nostalgia trip. I don't regret the purchase but I've spent more time playing D3's new season since that dropped.

All they have to do is increase the inventory space and I'd be more likely to recommend it.

The game is refreshingly difficult, but it's definitely showing its age, especially with the stamina bar still existing and numerous skills having little to no value. Thankfully they're beginning to rebalance skills to made more builds viable instead of the same dozen or so well-worn builds.

tldr It's fine.

Doesn't matter how many more inventory slots they give you... the correct gameplay decision will be to fill them with charms until you're choked for space again. Given how much more generous they are with the stash in D2R, I'm pretty sure charm balance is why they didn't similarly expand the character inventory.

Maybe the solution is to split the charms off to their own dedicated inventory slots.

Good news for undocked Switchers. Burn-in in OLED doesn’t seem to be much of a thing.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land - Friday, March 25th. Specifically mentions 2 player local co-op on the official game page, so no online.

This new trailer looks a little more like what I'd expect from a Kirby game. The first trailer got a real WTF reaction from me.

It looks good.

Yeah, I thought the first trailer was pretty bad too. This is much better.

Oh, right, Kirby Odyssey! My youngest will probably love this.
