How well would Great Western Trail work as a turn based game? I have access to the alpha on BGA but I haven't played the game before. I'm always happy to learn async and fumble my way through!

A post so nice I made it twice!

It's been over a year since I've played GWT and I can't recall all the mechanics. The comments in the BGA forum seem very positive though, and I expect at least some are playing async.

I'd be happy to join a game if you get one going on BGA to try it out.

To get us started, I've set up the following games on BGA for any GWJ BGA Group members to join. All set to four players but I can start at two or three if necessary...

Castles of Burgundy

Beyond the Sun

Azul

Beyond the Sun has started with four players - have fun everyone!

Castles of Burgundy - currently one spot left

Azul - currently two spots left started with four players - have fun!

I've opened up an alpha game of Great Western Trail on BGA, three players (so room for two more):

This will be a learning game for me, can't wait!

I wasn't able to join, unfortunately. I think you may have to invite people directly for Alpha games?

Hmmm, that's possible. If anyone is interested sent me a DM and I'll get you invited! Just let me know your BGA username.

Same on gwt, just went error. Well up for trying it if possible.

Okay Neutrino and Bubblefuzz, invites sent for Great Western Trail!

Thank you!

Joined Azul earlier too, ta Neutrino

I’ll join Beyond the Sun - internet’s currently down where I live, though (cellular data still works fine, to post this). Would you mind sending an invite?

Ah sorry, the Beyond the Sun game filled up quickly. I'm at my limit for async games on BGA right now but I can reserve a spot for you for a follow-up game. Alternatively, there's a good chance that there are enough people willing to start a second game up, perhaps?

Anybody up for some Rallyman GT?

https://boardgamearena.com/table?tab...

I haven't played this in a bit so hoping I can remember how it works.

I'll give Rallyman GT another shot! I played a few solo games awhile back and tried it with my game group but it was not well received. I think we had too many players though and the game took a bit too long. Seems to be a common downside for racing games that support larger number of players. I enjoyed the overall mechanics of it though, even if mechanically it didn't seem to always mesh with actual racing logic.

Racing logic seems to check out for me. Go fast, crash, go fast, crash. Works for me in Forza anyway.

I love Rallyman GT - it's really supplanted Formula D for me. You should turn off the warning haloes in BGA, and drink heavily while you play. Maximum crashes and fun.

Strategy-wise the trick is to go flat out most of the time, and then if you get too many hazards change your crash location to be at a low gear so you get 0 and not 00. There will only be the odd time where you get caught out.

Also, remember that you can't draw level with someone in a higher gear, and you can use that to block other cars

I think there is a limit to the number of people that can be invited for alpha games. So since there is interest I will create a Great Western Trail game (caveat, I do not know how to play this game!):

https://boardgamearena.com/table?tab...

Confirm your interest to me and I will invite you to join.

Another Alpha game I do not know and want to try is Blood Rage.
Let me know if you are interested and I will try to send one up in a few days...

Someone mentioned Alhambra and I played that LONG ago so here:

I've played Rallyman GT a few times on BGA and it's a lot of fun once you learn the gear mechanics and how to corner. I'd be up for a future game (a bit maxed out right now).

I've played Blood Race just once and had fun with it. I'm tempted to give the Alpha a go but will wait until I've finished a couple of my current games on BGA. Perhaps I'll join in a few days when you get it going

I jumped in on your Alhambra game (if I'm playing one game on BGA, why not several?), but if you were keeping that open for others, I'll withdraw.

Of course, this is only reminding me how much I want to travel...

EDIT: I would try Blood Rage (not sure how to access Alpha games) and Space Empires 4x is in Alpha! That's great news!

Haven't gotten a chance to try Formula D yet but really want to. It looks like a racing game my family might play as I don't think they would be interested in Rallyman. I'm hoping it will show up on BGA sometime so I can try it out first.

So many great games! I'd be down for Azul, Burgundy, GWT, or pretty much anything else that was listed. Looks like all the current games are full but count me in if there are any spots left or if new games pop up.

I really wish BGA would improve their group interface.

#1 it takes to many clicks to get to the actual group screen
#2 there should be a way for me to start a game, restrict to the group and then the group get notified that a game is avilable. I believe the only way now is to start the game, restrict, copy the link to the game and post it here or in a group message on the site. It would be nice if their was a screen that just showed all games that are currently being played/open in the group.

Blood Rage is one I've played some in person and be interested to see how it plays on bga.

I'd be down for a BGA Blood Rage game. I've played it several times in person and while I'm a little lukewarm on the game itself (I think it's fine, just other combat heavy games I enjoy more) I am curious to see the BGA implementation too.

Are you me?

I'd start a game, but I'm not sure how to start games in Alpha. Actually, I'm not at all sure how to start games and post them here for Goodjers to join. I'm getting old...

I haven't seen us in the same room at the same time so... maybe?

Alpha games require you have alpha access on BGA, which means you've played 750+ individual games across 30+ different games (I think that's correct). Once you've hit that you can go to https://boardgamearena.com/reviewer and get access to alpha games. It's possible to play games with non-alpha BGA users but you have to directly invite them to the game, you can't just send a link to the game table.

I'll fire up an alpha game of Blood Rage. Who's interested? I know we have several games going at once but I can't have too many games at once (at least I haven't found my limit yet)! I do have to avoid having more than one of the same game at a time though, that gets to be too much to keep in my head.

I'm definitely in. Thank you for setting it up. Clearly I need to play more games on BGA.

Have room for a couple more for Blood Rage on BGA! Let me know if you are interested.
