GWJ Online Boardgame Group

Cool, I've always wanted to try Space Base. I haven't been playing much BGA lately, might be time to jump back in.

Be up for trying Agricola!

CoB on bga would convenient.

Hi. How do I get into a BGA Beyond the Sun game? I hear good things and see good reviews so want to try, but have never used BGA.

Sign up for a free account on BGA, share your BGA username and I'll be happy to fire up a game! Beyond the Sun has become a personal favorite of mine on BGA, managed to pick up a physical copy earlier in the year and it's just in fun as person too. Would be happy to fire up a game for Goodjers and answer questions for a learning game!

BGA:
Keithustus

Just learned BGA can do asynch. Sounds great as an option after a learning game or two.

I largely only play async. It can be a tough way to learn a new game but sometime it's the only way If you'd be interested in learning Beyond the Sun async I'd be happy to set up a game, otherwise maybe we can find a time where some Goodjers are free.

I'm in for asynch or live, whatever works.

I'd also be in for async or live (although I'm across the pond re timezones). Perhaps we could do a live game as part of International Gamers With Jobs Day?

Also Keithustus, GWJ has a group you can join over on BGA here: https://boardgamearena.com/group?id=...

It's been a while since played any async bga with gwj folk. Anyone playing anything new?

Edit. I'm still playing Agricola and am still loving it. My now favourite BGA game.

Isn't there a Discord channel now?

Yeah there is on the gwj... I keep forgetting about it.

I've mostly been playing a couple of my regular two-player games on there; Targi & 7 Wonders Duel (with expansions).

Other recent ones I've played: Dungeon Petz (4 player), The Castles of Burgundy (4 player).

I also tried out the Alpha version of Watergate, unfortunately, it's still too buggy, but I'm looking forward to playing more when the bugs have been squished.

I'll post on the GWJ discord when I'm ready to start up some new games, I've also added some BGA games on the spreadsheet for International Gamers With Jobs Day - 23 & 24th Oct.

You've probably quoted two more of my top five bga games there along with say... Targi and Russian Railroads.

I'm a BGA premium member as we moved our physical weekly game night to virtual, after both my regular gaming buddies left London during the pandemic, so I can host certain games if others want.

Happy to get in on some async games or even live if the time is right!
I keep forgetting the Discord, but will check in there.

Hello all.

Posting here to revive thread for new year (lots of interesting additions to BGA, Yucata etc). Same name there...

and to say (crossing threads) I'm open to low-to-mid skill level games of Twilight Struggle

Slow play almost guaranteed!

I'm good for starting up an async game of something on BGA or Yucata.

Some suggestions:

BGA (NeutrinoVe): The Castles of Burgundy, Lost Ruins of Arnak, Azul

Yucata (Neutrino): Grand Austria Hotel, Rajas of the Ganges

For the Twilight Struggle app I'm NeutrinoVe. I started playing it last year, happy to play a low-to-mid skill level async game.

I'd be up for some games too! Of the ones Neutrino mentioned, I've only played Lost Ruins of Arnak (with him), but I'm generally up for learning anything, and for slow plays. I've been wanting to play Gaia Project, the new Terra Mystica-esque game in space.

I liked Gaia Project much better than Terra Mystica. Is that on BGA?

Gaia Project IS on BGA.

The # of games on BGA is somewhat out of control...

Recent additions include Parks, Azul, Gaia Project, Railways of the World, a bit further back in time - King of Tokyo, Agricola, New Frontiers ...

Beta now includes 7 Wonders Architects, I'm the Boss, Tapestry...

(Alpha, not available to all or even many, has ... Great Western Trail, Blood Rage...)

I can start a game up from one of my suggestions... anyone else?

A reminder that there's a GWJ BGA Group Any game I start will be restricted to members of the GWJ group to stop random people from joining.

I do want to learn and play Gaia Project (although I've not played Terra Mystica). Just a personal preference, but I don't enjoy learning mid to heavyweight games playing async on BGA. I'd prefer to get in an initial game on Tabletop Simulator first (or live on BGA) with someone who knows the rules.

If you want to learn Terra Mystica, I'd be happy to do a live game sometime! I'm on US East Coast time. Weekends would probably be best for me.

I'm down for async games of anything

I haven't played Gaia Project yet on BGA but I have played it once in person and I really want to play it again so I'm down for a game. Other personal favorites on BGA include Beyond the Sun, Dragon Castle, Alhambra, Through the Ages, Saint Petersburg, Castles of Burgundy, Tzolkin, Homesteaders, Railways of the World, Terra Mystica...

...the list of games they have now is really impressive.

Beyond the Sun is great. I played that one with Gazebo and a couple other GWJers last year, really enjoyed it a lot.

Personally, I think async games are great for learning something new. The extra time to think about my move, and to digest the rule book over time, really helps me.

I'm up for asynch or live games, if the latter help people learn better.

I definitely want to try GP, and also Alhambra, St. Petersburg (one of my favorites!) and CoB, using Dreaded Gazebo's list.

Intriguing. If someone sets up BTS asynch and needs a first timer, I’m game. Got my copy just before Christmas travel, have only read through the rules and flipped through the cards a bit.

Just finished a 4p game of Gaia a couple days ago async, none of us knew what was going on and we'd all play a fair bit of Terra Mystica last year. None of us looked at the rules either mind thinking we'd wing it after knowing TM. There are similarities but enough has changed needs a new learn. Not got time for that at the mo.

However of those list by folks above I'd be happy playing some favourites async... Alhambra, CoB not played for a while. Would like to try a couple on the lighter end, Azul, Parks.

Agricola is my favourite, but am taking a bit of a break so as not to burn out on it. Though still am in an async tourney, which is taking forever, started in October and still only 25% of games played. Many of those have ended because someone run out of time, not the best.

Played a game of Great Western Trail last week in person, one of my favourites I reckon. If someone has access to the alpha and wanted to invite... Yes please!

I was really excited to play Agricola, but I was a bit disappointed - I think Stone Age and Splendour are more fun versions of that type of game. Agricola seemed very fiddly - each turn was much more precious, and the way new things were introduced turn by turn seemed to add complexity but not fun. Maybe experts can optimise to the point where they aren't wasting turns because the wood is blocked or whatever.

We really enjoyed Dice Hospital and Beyond the Sun. Our games of The Crew devolve into arguments about the spirit vs the letter of the communication rules. (I think the game is hard enough that discussions that could happen without knowledge of your hand is fine, but we have a stickler that argues the theme makes it more restrictive than that).

Thanks, I might take you up on that at some point.

Great list of games there. I've played about half of them on BGA and am interested to try Saint Petersburg and Railways of the World when I can fit them in. Through the Ages is one of my favourite digital board games with the app, I've tried it on BGA a couple of times but find it too fiddly, plus no undo last action.

I agree, Beyond the Sun is a fun game and well implemented on BGA.

I've learned a few games on BGA playing async but had the most success with lighter or two-player games. I'm more of a visual learner, so playing a turn a day in amongst my usual mix of other games, just hasn't worked for me with understanding more complex games.
I can see it working for others though, especially if you are playing fewer concurrent games and pouring over the manual

Alhambra looks like one I could get to grips with learning async, perhaps also St. Petersburg. I'll start up a game of CoB as a few have mentioned it now.

I'll start up a game of BtS

I'll start up a game of Azul. I've played Great Western Trail a couple of times on Tabletop Simulator, great game and looking forward to trying it out on BGA. I don't have access to the Alpha, hopefully it gets a beta release soon!

To get us started, I've set up the following games on BGA for any GWJ BGA Group members to join. All set to four players but I can start at two or three if necessary...

Castles of Burgundy

Beyond the Sun

Azul

Have joined the game of Azul, cheers. I'll leave CoB for others, just started a game with regular group.
