Playstation 5 Catch-All

Yeah my bad. The sale price for new purchasers is from Dec 22 to Jan 7. The free upgrade does not list an expiration.

Worked for me this morning. A little convoluted to do it, but now it appears on my list like any other title with PS4 and PS5 versions.

As someone who never played the original, a little worried about playing a game when the story won't conclude for years, but we are living in an age where every franchise has a hundred YouTube "the story so far" summaries so maybe I just need to get past it.

Yeah I got it added to library and downloading after midnight. It was still a little odd on the actual PS5. There appeared to be two versions of PS5 upgrade, and clicking a drop-down let me switch to the other one, which then had an add to library button.

Definitely couldn't get it from the online store, but when I went to the store on the console there were two versions of "FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE upgrade for PS4™ version owners"; ridiculously, you switch between them with a drop-down menu that allows you to choose from, I kid you not, "Game" or "Game". "Game" is not available, but "Game" has a "Download" button. What a mess.

The really ironic thing is I have no interest in playing a Final Fantasy game, but I have a Pavlovian reaction to free stuff.

Looks like you can’t buy the DLC until after you upgrade…

Same. I've read reviews. It sounds ridiculous. And the original game is like my 3rd favorite FF at best. Still some others I haven't played that might knock it down too.

But free!

I received Returnal for Christmas, and I've put a few hours into it. It feels pretty great to play, but I can see myself bouncing off of it if I'm feeling like I'm not making good progress.

I was curious if anyone here has given the PS5/Epic Games exclusive game Arcadegeddon a shot yet?

I've played around with it a bit and I think playing co-op would really improve the experience. If it looks interesting enough, it's on sale for <$15 (<$10 on Epic w/coupon for PC) and is cross play with the PC Epic Games version. If anyone is interested in teaming up, my PSN is mariosmaker and I think it could be a rather fun experience.

On an semi-related note, Risk of Rain 2 (PS4) plays verrry smoothly on PS5 and I'm hoping to find some folks interested in dusting it off to party up for that game as well.

I'm curious about Arcadegeddon but it really feels like it should follow the free to play model. I have a suspicion it'll end up going that route so I'll likely wait for that before diving in.

Would love to hear more impressions though. I love a good coop game, lately have been jamming on Deep Rock Galactic with some friends. Risk of Rain 2 is another personal favorite although I haven't been able to get others as into that one yet.

For me that is the best PSN month in years I think.

Of course, I just bought Persona 5 Strikers before the leak that these were the January games.

I picked up Strikers on PC a couple months ago when it got under $30 but hadn't got around to playing it yet. Oh well.

I’m down for playing all those games. I was fancying Deep Rock Galactic after so many folks here seemed to be loving it on PC.

That is a good set!

Always a weird concern.

I'm currently wringing my hands over buying a few more games during the Holiday Sale on PSN when I can see a few of them potentially being part of the rumored Game Pass competitor coming soon.

Well, so far so good. I’ve had my* PS5 back for over a week now and I’ve been using rest mode without any issues. It’s nice to be able to use it without concerns as to whether it will start.

*Like a dummy, I didn’t write down the serial number of my old but my PSN account saw the PS5 I got back as a different console.

I’ve signed up for a chance to buy a PS5 from Sony Direct. I’d honestly be fine on PS4 until next year but, at the same time, games like the new God of War and Elden Ring are calling to me with the promise of silky smooth frame rates and better visuals. I shall leave it to the gods of chance.

Fingers crossed for you, Higgledy. It is awesome to get a new and shiny.

I chose your backup option to stick with the PS4 for another year or so. My aging yet reliable base model is holding in there, for now. So here's to hoping as I am only a month in from picking up the Xbox Series X!

Spoiler:

The Green Brand have more exclusives which I am interested in. And. Game Pass. Backwards Compatibility. Microsoft Rewards. Digital Refunds.

Not only did it seem the right time to go Green with value for money, it felt the right time to support what they are doing.

I'm waiting to see what team Blue counteract with. Competition is great for the consumer.

Boy, do I long to play Returnal, though. That's my (almost) PS5 system seller. My patience shall be buffed to no end!

Returnal is another I’m keen to have a go at even though it might be beyond my skill level to complete.

Did you get any kind of confirmation e-mail for signing up with Sony Direct? I signed up a few months ago and haven't seen any kind of confirmation. Hoping I'm on the list...

Not so far. The webpage flashed up that I was registered but that’s it.

I don’t think I got any kind of confirmation. I remember wondering if my name was in also. And then months later after I’d given up, I got an email.

I originally signed up with an email that wasn't attached to my PSN. I did it again a while back but made sure to do it through PSN, and that somehow worked this last round of Sony Direct. I just tried to see if I got some kind of confirmation email, but I don't believe I did. I think when you sign up with your PSN you basically agree to them checking your account activity by signing up, and then that's it.

Higgledly - I’m on a Stock Informer Telegram channel and there’s just (like in the last 10 minutes) been a big drop of stock on UK Amazon. Maybe you might get lucky?

Thanks. I’ll look.

Out of stock. To be expected a few hours later. I had a group this morning otherwise I may have seen your message. No problem.

The Stock Informer alerts are constant at the moment and the Telegram channel is read-only and pings me 3-5 times a week (i.e. no discussion, it’s just alerts). Probably your best bet.

Great. Thanks.

Edit: My approach to the PS5 is a bit weird. My plan at the start of the year (which we’re kinda still in) was/is to stick with PS4 until the end of this year so I can get played some of the essential games in my backlog. The invite to register for a PS5 direct from Sony seemed too good not to do but part of me hopes I won’t be invited for a few months and I won’t be sorry not to be invited at all. I feel no urgency to upgrade.

I advise quitting your job and refreshing alert pages full time.

That’s where I was at. If I hadn’t got an invite from Sony directly I would still not have one. I wasn’t going to bother with the more difficult, time sensitive ways of acquiring one.
