NCAA Basketball 21-22 Catch-All

Also WTF happened to Villanova? They scored like 70 combined points their last 2 games. That's not gonna win many

Looksike UNC v Kentucky now? I guess UCLA is going on covid pause?

On that note, I am concerned about the number of cases again. How much longer can we blithely ignore the newest variant? We do so at risk for all the players, staff, and attendees.

Add Memphis to the list of covid teams. Like a dozen games canceled this weekend.

Here we go. Game after game being cancelled. There's so much money involved that folks will push, but I can't help but think this is not a good idea.

Rumors strong from press and the crazies on Vol Twitter that pretty much all the Memphis players were out partying last night. And there are pics of them supposedly after the cancellation taking pics with fans.

Don't know. *shrug* Crazy world. Definitely no love lost between the coaches in this one.

Welp. I feel like UNC forgot to show up to this Kentucky game. Like they prepped for a post problem and ignored the 5'9" guard that has absolutely gotten anything he wanted.

Sigh.

Could have been worse. Could have lost to an in state C-USA school at their place for the first time since 1950.

If Mack doesn't make the tournament this year he's done. Wish he'd coach like it

Well Cards are in covid protocol. UK game for Wednesday cancelled.

Here we go again

Pretty much exactly what I feared. How many of these are we gonna have?

Vols out "guts" #6 Arizona. Jumped on them from the start, then held on through poor offense to win it. It seemed like John Fulkerson drew 20 fouls. He's such an annoying player to opposing teams. Love his heart.

Ga Tech is out with covid. Wed game vs Syracuse cancelled.

Going to be a lot of those this week

Va Tech and Duke both cancelling the rest of the week.

Harvard too.

Yep, just saw the UNC/VT game was 'postponed'. Bodes poorly for the remainder of the season.

Man... did TV Teddy just screw NC St out of having a last chance to tie?

Oh, I forgot to post when Cards beat Wake Wed night. Kind of expected that Wake's 11-1 was against nobodies, but still nice to see us win at home.

Wake getting beat by Miami right now first half. Big Saturday of ACC games. Cards next game got pushed from today to tomorrow to give Ga Tech time to get healthy.

A decent output after a slow 3 min to start for the Heels today. Still sloppy, still not defending the paint well, but BC couldn't throw it in the ocean today, so we piled on the points for a convincing (albeit unexciting) win.

Cards survive Pitt after a couple late technicals let them back in it. Weirdest game.

4-0 ACC though. It's something.

Yep.

We just fell to Notre Dame in a game that had some... odd calls. I really do try to be neutral about the officiating, but this one felt a bit weird. Some charges that weren't. Some fouls that didn't get called. Really though, the Heels just failed to defend worth a DAMN in the first half, and that ended up costing them the game.

Argh.

Oh sh*t our game was insane officiating. Double-tech on the starting centers 1 min into the game. Tech on Pitt coach and bench. 4 FTs for us to start the game.

Then at the end, both starting centers had 4. He charged into ours twice. 3rd time, our guy dove, and they called a block. Ridiculous.

But then about 2 minutes later, one of Pitt players foul out. Maybe the same guy? And we are shooting FTs, 40 sec left, up 7. Game completely over right?

Our fouled out starting center says something from the bench and gets his second tech, ejected from court. So they get 2 FTs, then we get our FTs we were waiting to shoot.

Suddenly game is a little closer, they score. We miss a front end. They score. Foul us on purpose. Ok we can hit a couple to seal it with 20 sec left, make it 2 possessions. But no, now our coach gets a tech telling the refs how much they suck. Now they get 2 more FTs, cut into lead. We get our FTs. Still up 5, probably over...

They hit a 3 with 7 sec left that now cuts it to 2. We only hit 1 of 2. They have a chance to tie at buzzer.

Absolutely nuts.

That does sound like a mess.

Tennessee beat Ole Miss last night in a game that reminded me of the UT loss in OT to Texas Tech in MSG. Lots of defense, but low scoring for most of the game. I think there were 25 plus turnovers from Ole Miss, but UT couldn't hit crap during regulation.

Tennessee's D this year is better than I expected. Our offense is just very sporadic. We've had a small number of these games where shots just don't fall and we refuse to push it inside and score that way for most of the game.

Looks like FSU has reverted back to the pitiful offensive woes of a few years ago. Either that or we are saving our baskets like a rabid drunken squirrel on a monthlong bender.

Hopefully they can find the hoop in the next game. Maybe we need to put out one of those people who guide planes into their parking spots

Hopefully the game after that since Louisville at FSU is Saturday.

Colorado St falls from the undefeated ranks. Well done, SDSU.

Baylor was trailing but may survive. Just 2 undefeated teams left.

UNC finally beats UVA behind a solid performance from Bacot with contributions by Manek and Love. Better energy than on Wednesday.

Miami hanging with Duke for the moment, and last I looked, FSU had figured out how to shoot again (just in time for the Louisville game, sorry Stele!)

Yeah... gave up 50 the first half. Down 14 or so. Then held them to only 11 points the first 12 or 14 minutes of the 2nd half... cut it all the way down to 2 with just over 5 minutes left.

Then FSU hits a lucky banked 3, we miss back to back wide open ones in the corner... suddenly down 9 again. Game over.

Mack 0-5 against FSU. Clown.

Miami stands alone 5-0 leading the ACC. Good grief.

And down goes Duke. Miami looks surprisingly good. Playing with poise and confidence, they never gave up. Some miscues in the final minute almost sunk them, but the somehow WILLED the ball through the hoop and closed out on defense. Crazy game.

Baylor the only unbeaten men's team left. USC fell to Stanford in their first game since December.

Texas Tech giving Baylor all they want right now.

No more unbeatens! Texas Tech wins @ Baylor. Crazy!

When it rains it pours.

New #1 next week.

Change:

Fully vaccinated individuals now include those within two months of receiving the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, five months of receiving the Pfizer vaccine series or six months of receiving the Moderna vaccine series; and individuals who are beyond the aforementioned timeline and have received the booster vaccine.

Individuals within 90 days of a documented COVID-19 infection fall within the equivalent of "fully vaccinated."

RIP Joe B Hall

Joe B. Hall, who succeeded legendary coach Adolph Rupp at Kentucky and led the Wildcats to an NCAA men's basketball championship, has died at the age of 93.

Hall is one of only three men to both play on and coach an NCAA championship team (1949, 1978) and is the only one to do so for the same school.

They had some nice words about him on ESPN GameDay this morning. And Bilas mentioned the Joe B & Denny radio show, where he and coach Crum spent a lot of years being entertaining and becoming friends after coaching rival schools. Pretty cool stuff.

Basketball related... Tenn is probably going to get UK's best shot today. Win one for Joe B stuff. Good luck, Mannish.
