Assassin's Creed Valhalla RPG Catch-All

General AC order screen complaint for the last few. Why oh why do they partially reveal who the order person is before your character knows?
The one for Valhalla is obvious, but still it ends up spoiling a part of the story.

I thought that was a bug for about half the game. It's such a stupid thing.

I don't think I've noticed this about the Order screen.

Snotinghamscire's story complete. Kind of dug that it was more focused on character stuff than big political stuff, though the latter still factors in to a degree. Also interesting that it mostly keeps the action focused to a relatively small area of the map. I'll probably spend as much time exploring the rest of the area finding side stuff as I did doing the main story arc there.

Also, 120+ hours in, I'm starting to realize how good the world map is. Even if an icon isn't revealed on the map yet, you can get a good sense of where stuff is likely to be anyway. Stone circles are visible, dead trees indicate cursed areas, and you can spot structures and ruins easily and wander your way over there to find wealth chests or Roman artifacts. Out in the world, I finally noticed flocks of birds tend to hover over points of interest, not just sync points, and animus glitches tend to be visible from quite far away. I have a feeling I missed some of those thinking it was just stuff loading in late. In general the self-directed exploration may be the best it's ever been in the series so far.

Next week's 1.4.1 update is going to require redownloading the entire game. On the plus side, it should take up less hard drive space and improve overall load times.

How odd.
I should go delete before this is released.
I doubt I'll finish Seige of Paris.

Days Gone did this with one of their updates and it made an incredible difference - if I recall correctly it essentially halved the file size and eliminated a whole swathe of stability/streaming issues. Hopefully this will be similar.

I think I finished the base game last night. Order of the Ancients is no more, all zones of the map are pacified, and the settlement is maxed out. There weren't any credits, but the final quest I did ended in a wedding, and nothing new popped up after that, so I'm fairly certain that's it for the critical paths.

I think this is the first time in the series where the way the historical and modern stories intersected left me completely confused and bewildered. It was to the point that I looked up a few explainers, and I think I have it straight now:

Spoiler:

Eivor, Sigurd, and Basim are all reincarnations of the Isu demigods Havi/Odin, Tyr, and Loki respectively. As shown in the Asgard portions of the story, Havi imprisoned Loki's son, and Loki wanted revenge for this. During Eivor's time, Basim allowed (or succumbed to?) Loki to come to the fore, and he sought out the reincarnations of Havi and Tyr so he could get that revenge. Cue the betrayal/boss fight in the Isu temple in Norway, as well as Eivor's fight with Havi where she rejects him.

MEANWHILE, Alethia and Loki have ALSO been plotting to allow Loki to resurrect in the modern day, and so the entire plot of Odyssey's mythological portions was apparently a convoluted plan to get Layla the Staff of Hermes so she could eventually find her way to the same Norway temple, get jacked into the Isu matrix, and drop the staff so Loki could be resurrected. Now he can run off and cause all kinds of mischief, while Layla is trapped in the matrix with Desmond for the rest of eternity, I guess? Cue a cliffhanger for what happens next.

When Layla was introduced in Origins, I was looking forward to what felt like a return to form for the modern day portions of the story. I thought, "now we have someone to get invested in, and hopefully there is a plan going forward". With the way everything's played out up til now, I find myself decidedly underwhelmed. I've always been a fan of the modern day story. It's goofy and silly in ways I enjoy. But the hope I had for a plan going forward appears to have been in vain, as it's just.. a bunch of stuff happens, and we hope you like how bananas it is! Also, the return of Shaun and Rebecca was at the cost of their personalities, it seems.

There were times I played this where I really got into the loop of exploring, clearing icons, and doing the stories in each zone. There were also times where it felt like a drag, where nothing was really exciting me. I can point to all these individual elements that I really enjoy: the beauty of the world, the exploration, the combat, the settlement and the characters living there, the music. But as a whole, it hasn't come together into a coherent whole that transcends those parts.

I'll keep playing. For now I want to finish some of the side content like the legendary animals and the optional boss fights. I also want to find the rest of the animus glitches, since it appears to flesh out a bit of the framing plot I think. I'll also eventually do the meatier DLC expansions, though I think I will wait a while until I'm in the mood to really sink my teeth into the game again.

Next DLC was announced today. I hope we got to do some of the stuff they shown in this cinematic trailer.

There's also going to be free crossover DLC for both Odyssey and Valhalla.

Guess i need to reinstall Odyssey.

Hoping Epic's Winter sale hits sometime this week, I'm looking to pick up the season pass and bang out the two expansions during my two week vacation starting on Monday.

haha, I just started mine re-installing too

Just finished up both expansions and the free content they added. The Ilse of Skye was a nice little surprise. Really went above and beyond there.

I really like Wrath of the Druids. Fun area and characters with a well paced story. Lots of content and some new mechanics to fiddle with. All the abilities that were introduced were a bunch of fun. I'm partial to the Vikingr Solute which is just a brutal headbutt.

Siege of Paris was less interesting. I actually liked the contrasting war-torn areas with the lush green spots. However, the map was very small and didn't offer up much explanation. I liked the story they were telling and Eivor's attempts to talk sense into a bunch of stubborn (and crazy) people. The best part of it was the introduction of short swords and scythes (particularly fond of the scythe) and the ability that lets you put a bomb on an enemy and throw them at their allies is hilarious.

I'm good to take another break and play Dawn of Ragnarok when it goes on sale later in the year or even into next year. The Odin stuff in the main game were by far the weakest points of the game and they'd have to get very fantastical and make Odin much less of an absolute insufferable prick.

I bought Valhalla on Xbox (physical) over the holidays and wound up returning due to a widespread sound bug of only hearing ambient sound. Anyone else ever encounter and, if so, were able to resolve? I tried all the sound adjustments (PCM, digital, etc.) and could never get it to work. I'd like to try this game again.

Thanks,
Chad

Filthy skimmer here, seeking technical help.

I started playing AC: Valhalla a couple of weeks ago (PC via Ubi app); I'm still pretty early in the game (~10% story). A few times recently the game has spontaneously hard-crashed to desktop and I'd like it to NOT do that. Prior to crashing, the game was running buttery-smooth. I'm playing on max settings with a 3900x and a 2080 Super, neither of which were giving any physical evidence of running hard (fans are still silent). No other games have this problem. I've already tried the usual triage steps: verify game install, update OS and video drivers, fresh reboot, don't run any extraneous apps, etc.

I had a surprising number of crashes with the game on PS4 Pro. I think it is the game itself and not platform specific.

My crashes on PC went down significantly when I tweaked my page file settings for the second hard drive the game is installed on. There was some YouTube video that pointed me in the right direction; so have a search there.

Note it still crashes occasionally, but I think that’s just the game itself.

Thanks, I appreciate the help. I turned my page file off years ago, so I don't think that'd be it. Some googling suggests that one of the recent patches (the one that accompanied the latest expansion, in particular) may be responsible. Very frustrating.

Yes, it might be the game itself as I've had it crash out completely like that a few times since the new DLC released on Xbox Series X. One minute I'm playing and everything is smooth. The next it freeze and about 10 seconds later I'm sitting on the Xbox dashboard.

I bought this on Xbox. Could not get the main sound (dialogue and music) to work at all. Did a lot of troubleshooting and sounds like a known bug that affects some people.

Patch 1.5.1 released today and might have resolved my crashing issues? At least, I haven't had a crash in the past 90 minutes of play, where I was crashing every ~30 minutes previously. Cautiously optimistic...

Nice - I stopped playing due to crashes as well. Sometimes 10 minutes after starting, sometimes 90 minutes after, but my gaming session WOULD end with a crash, which was frankly, annoying.

Yeah, I was in the same longboat as you. The game was totally fine at the beginning, in Norway. Then some time after getting to England the game started crashing on about the timetable you listed. Randomly while deep in a combat mission, or when mounting up, or sometimes when just running across the countryside. It was very disheartening to keep losing progress, especially during the combat missions.

Nope, still crashes spontaneously. At l wasn't in the middle of combat this time - I was right at the end of the Ostara Egg Hunt. Now I get to do that again.

Damn - I am sorry to hear that.

Try turning off the Uplay overlay - made a big improvement for me

Oh right, I did see some suggestions about doing that, but I never tried it. I'll give it a shot next time I fire this up. Thanks!

So the complete version of this is on sale, and it looks fun, but I’ve not played Odyssey yet. Should I play Odyssey, or should I jump into Valhalla?

I loved Origins but petered out on it eventually.

I enjoyed and completed both Odyssey & Valhalla, but I think you would be ok to skip Odyssey (or do it after).
There is a little bit of info related to Odyssey but other than a specific cross-over mission that I would avoid it would be ok.

If you don't care about following the modern day story, there's no reason you can't just skip right to Valhalla.
