NCAA Football 2021-22 Season

saving my thoughts until something becomes official but could you imagine if someone who has done extremely well in the almighty SEC were to move to the Pac-12? For shame! What a coward!

Grump! Can't believe they did us dirty on PAX South, man.

A bit disappointed, but can't say I was surprised. I said (mostly to myself) that it was going to have to move somewhere bigger (in my head it was Dallas) to survive long term. Seattle, Boston, San Antonio; one of these things is not like the other.

Guessing you were going to joke about Lanning? As if a coordinator taking a major power 5 job would somehow be a negative for the SEC?

Rent free.

SEC lives rent-free because the boosters pay the rents.

You the only college football die-hard who hasn't heard that a certain die-hard Big 12 team has been shouting from the ropftops how much they'll pay players?

Having just been to BoardgameGeekCon, Dallas may be bigger than SA, but it's not better. SA was so perfect. Margs for days!

You've admitted a Pac-12 program is a "major power 5" so I'll just say my work here is done, onward to 2022! A few more seasons you'll soon be saying its better than Vanderbilt and Missouri then I'll know I've done the lord's work.

sorry I thought we are already saying Texas and Oklahoma were SEC schools? I'm confused.

I'm just down here in the Mountain West, throwing sh*t indiscriminately into the conversation.

Until we're getting the free wins over "lost to Kansas at home" quality teams, they're not in.

I'll do you one better, Missouri would join the great big meh as a middle of the pack team in the Pac-12.

Here is the list of Pac-12 schools that would be ahead of Vandy.

Arizona
ASU
UCLA
Colorado
Oregon
Oregon St.
USC
Utah
Stanford
Washington
WSU

Excellent, so Cal's Pac-12 losses won't count since they're basically the same as SEC losses?

This weekend, FRESNO STATE helps kick off bowl season by facing off against UTEP in the... *sigh*... PUBG Mobile New Mexico Bowl.

Not just PUBG, but specifically PUBG Mobile.

Because it wasn't insulting enough otherwise.

Fresno's played in a couple New Mexico Bowls, but those didn't have this kind of branding attached.

Can't wait until next year when they play in the RAID: Shadow Legends Las Vegas Bowl.

Hey it's one game.. we went a whole 2 seasons with our field being called "Kabam field at Memorial Stadium". Cal needs the money as much as anyone, so beggars shouldn't be choosers, but that was tough.

I was gonna make a crack about SEC stadiums not needing sponsorships but I double-checked it first, and damn it Kentucky for taking that sweet, Kroger money.

The best was when the K broke off the front one week. We like to refer to UK's field as "the Roger" now.

I haven't actually "heard" the bowl name.. are they actually going to call it "Pub-GEE" or are they going to say it all out every time they name identify the game?

Tune in and find out!

Watch a Fresno team without their coach and offensive coordinator face off against a UTEP team that didn't beat any winning teams this year.

Sadly it probably won't be the last.

No decent human being should be following high school recruiting closely, particularly the 0- to 3-star recruits that Cal usually recruits, but here I am.

Anyways, a DT recruit committed and de-commited to Cal twice in the last 36 hours before today's early signing day, finally committing to TCU even though as of 1 minute ago his twitter banner still said Golden Bears. Wish this guy the best of luck, but come on, this is choosing between Cal and TCU. There is no need for drama or hype.

Also, when it comes to Cal recruiting lets not forget this story from 2008.. More sad than funny, but throw it onto the pile of stupid college football things and Cal.

Much wailing and gnashing of teeth today over the idea that "we have arrived at the point in CFB where you can pay players to attend your school."

Which, y'know...

...I'll just let Jimbo Fisher say it.

Exemplified by the number one player signing with the deep pocketed...... Jackson St. With a purported NIL deal for a mil lined up to go with.

Neon Deion is apparently as flashy a coach as he was a player.

When you throw in Barstool sports and $2 million...

I liked how he had to asterisk it to act like he had never been a part of it...

Riiiiighttt.

I strangely love the chaos of this. I think it's going to mess up the traditional fun of college ball and it's going to be something different very quickly. But I lay the fault of that on the NCAA, the administrations, and the coaches. They've had plenty of opportunity to adapt before slapped down by the court. I'm happy to see these kids get a cut of all this money.

That said, mistakes are going to be made all over the place. On all parts of these transactions. Mid level players are likely to assume they'll get a cut only to find out they're getting free meals at local restaurants while their 5* QB is getting hundreds of thousands of dollars.

There's a business hole here that I think some schools boosters are organizing to address that will eventually get this thing down to where you will see an organization much like Patreon that will allow anybody to tip their favorite players a few bucks. Or maybe you'll be able to give money to an underappreciated group like the O-line. A company like that could take a few cents from each transaction then send the rest to the players. The idea of how to pool the crazy fan money is too obvious for this not to happen (assuming it's legal).

I know some players are already in the Cameo world, but some structure like I'm suggesting could do the same with less work on their parts.

This type of stuff will make the game more about the individual than the team. It's the same in the NFL, but those guys mostly have agents and business managers. Not sure how 17 year old kids are going to deal with this. I suspect we'll see some Johnny Manziel implosions when kids get money without earning the maturity, but hopefully overall this will be a positive. Time will tell.

The media press Barstool got just today is probably worth it. This is all over everywhere I looked this afternoon.

More chaos between South Carolina and Maryland over a recruit.

Can Legions team win? Can mine? It’s time for the

Congratulations Legion, your team is best at PUBG Mobile, or something like that.
