Nintendo Switch Catch-All 2.0

Marvel Ultimate Alliance is not an easy game and I didn't like it, the combat and controls felt slightly off to me, but the camera was gawd awful and seriously the wirst I've encountered in a iso action game in years. I died way more time because I couldn't see than from enemies.

I was concerned with the difficulty on that one. And while I think my oldest would like it, I’m not sure my youngest would.

Something I've learned watching a friend's kids play is to take into account how competitive they can be, in part because a more competitive child can really drive a less competitive one crazy (and vice versa) even in co-op games. That said, I feel like Overcooked is your best bet for a fun and chaotic time.

I agree. I think Overcooked is going to be a solid pick.

For now, the kids and I watched a bunch of videos about them, and both wanted to play Castle Crashers. I think the demo sold them on it. Pretty fun so far.

I might pick up Lovers in a Dangerous Space Time too. And maybe Overcooked around Christmas.

Random tip:

Diablo II looks a lot better in handheld mode if you go into the options and drop the resolution to 640x480.

And, wow. I was on my PC, and had forgotten that I had Overcooked 1 and 2 free from epic at some point. Me and my kids tried it out, and it was fantastic. So much fun with the 3 of us. It was hectic, but surprisingly no one got mad, and even the 6 year old loved it.

I may still pick it up on Switch though, as that would be a lot more comfortable on the couch and tv.

Ya? Gonna try that. Thanks!

Yep. The 3d skin is still rendered at 720p, but the camera is zoomed in to the original pre-expansion field of view. It makes the characters just enough bigger that it improves things noticeably.

Haven't tried it on the TV yet. I expect I'll want to go back to 800x600 for that one but I wouldn't be surprised if I kept it zoomed in.

Got Valkyria Chronicles and Golf Story on sale and my god both are excellent so far.

So right about at the 1 year mark, my Fixture S1 has a crack in the part that holds the switch. No idea how or why—never been dropped, even keep it in a case a lot of the time. It still holds, but it’s got me worried how long it’ll last or if it’ll give out catastrophically. Tempted to get a new one as they’re on sale for Black Friday, but it’s only $5 off and I’m kinda hoping to get an OLED at some point which wouldn’t fit.

I've had VC4 since launch and haven't fired it up. I liked the first SO much, the second less so and I'm scared I won't like it.

If you loved the first I think you’ll at least like 4. I had the same experience with 1 and 2.

In 4 I got stuck on a difficulty spike but really enjoyed the 15-20 hours up to that point.

Yeah, 4 is much closer to 1, but on the Switch it runs noticeably better.

Gosh sorry I misstyped. I got Xenoblade Chronicles!

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim coming to Switch in April! Vanillaware has been freed from Sony consoles! Finally!

Golf Story was an absolute gem. And it has a sequel, Sports Story, which is in the works, although besides delays we haven't heard much about it for awhile.

Hmm lowest price ever. Maybe I should get Golf Story finally.

This is a decided improvement in handled. Not that I much cared what the game looked like, if I did I'd be playing on or XSX, but this is much easier on the eyes.

So my 5yo is getting interested in games (yey) but the pro controller and the joy on dock are too big for his little hands (boo) and the separate joy cons aren’t enough like Daddy’s controller (d’aww).

Anyone know a good solution Santa can get him?

PowerA makes a "nano" controller that's a little smaller.

Joycon grips? Cheap and might make it look enough like the big one.

If not the 8bitdo SN30 pro is much narrower than Switch Pro.

I asked this question a couple of months ago and did a bunch of research. I wound up grabbing two of these for the kiddos:
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B08...

My 4 year old is rocking it really well, they connect easily and no complaints so far.

Did anybody else realize you can use two SD cards with the Switch?

I replaced the old 128GB one I had a while back (holiday 2019 maybe?) with a 256GB one because that one was getting full. Now almost 2 years later, this one is getting full. And I was eyeing some cyber week deals and looking at the 512GB cards but that's more than a game. Before I blew some money I googled, and yes, you can switch out microSD cards. Just have to power off the system first. Popped the other one in, and all the games still show on the home menu, but ones that aren't on that card show with the "redownload" icon. So I removed a few games from the primary card that I don't play much the (like this year) but might want to play again. Would be easy to just put that card in my carrying case like another game cartridge. And yay now I have several GB free on the primary card for whatever games I get next year.

Didn't realize that the Dongonronpa Collection was incomplete. I had most of the titles on the vita except V3. They didn't include the Dispair Girls shooter on it nor it is the best versions either. Oh well, buyer beware. The V3 version is suppose to be a good to better at least.

Hiya. A friend has picked up an old switch, but it came with no dock. Official docks are too pricey for them. They have asked about best 3rd party options. I said... GWJ folks will know, I'll ask them for you! So here I am

Does anyone use a budget dock? Any clue on what's the best out there doing the same job as the official?

Ta.

I would still recommend a first party dock because some 3rd party docks would pull an different amount of voltage and brick the system.

The trouble with budget docks is that the Switch uses some weird voltage for their visually-a-USB-C connection, so many early third-party docks provided the console with a fatal energy flow. They should be fine now? I have only ever used the official original dock (the new brighter Switches come with a much better dock than the default one the system had for its first few years on the market) or the Genki Covert Dock, which is more expensive (they’re the company that reverse engineered the voltage issue) but great for travel.

Cheers both, will pass that on.

News on the dock front:

You Can Now Buy the Nintendo Switch OLED's Upgraded Dock All on Its Own
https://gizmodo.com/you-can-now-buy-...

They’re apparently much better docks. Folks here agree? My original dock just sits under the TV so is fantastic at that.

As an owner of the OLED dock, I’m not sure it’s any better.

The new one is white instead of black, and it has a built-in ethernet port whereas before I had a USB gigabit adapter plugged in. So I don’t really see what the big jump is, especially when you consider what the speed test on the switch actually tells you your speed is. Oh, and the rear door is no longer on the hinge. So it can fall off, or slot on.

I mean if you’re looking for an extra dock they’re absolutely fine, but it is not an upgrade that I would consider being worth even the thought of.

I just found the white OLED switch in stock on Amazon for delivery December 21 or so. I snagged it almost without thinking just since it was the first time I saw it available. I may cancel or I may return it—unsure. But there may be more stock for a bit.
