01:29:00 Thread of the Week

As a lifelong admirer of Kierkegaard, Bonhoeffer, and Tillich, I really appreciated Dr. Chicka's weaving of existential philosophies into how video games are both a reflection of and motivator for cultural change. I loved everyone's responses, but especially Karla's (not the least of which because she mentioned the shared LANGUAGE of communities like GWJ) response to how communities can fulfil the role of religion, Rich's comment regarding how game communities adopt shared frameworks to create meaning, and Meebs expression of how games can give players empathetic understanding of the life experiences of marginalized communities. I absolutely loved this episode and I want MOAR AKADEMICS on the show =P. This is very much my jam.

Worth noting, Vagrus has a free prologue available. So if that game sounded remotely interesting to you, there's no reason not to try it!

Wait, so the next time I fill out the census, do I have to write "Gamers With Jobs" under "Religion"?

Karnak said it best MOAR AKADEMICS! This was such a thought provoking episode, now one of my very favorite of the series.
