[News] Coronavirus

A place to discuss the now-global coronavirus outbreak.

More good news on the drug trial I’m working on for non vaccine alternatives.

No words...

Acting mostly along party lines, the Florida House and Senate passed a package of four bills protecting workers who remain defiant against Covid-19 vaccinations. Once signed by DeSantis -- which is expected in the coming days -- Florida will become the first state with a law imposing fines on companies that require a Covid-19 vaccination as a condition of employment.

The advancement of science since this began is astounding.

Then there's...

I'm very curious to see what kind of reception the Pfizer Covid pill gets amongst conservatives and those that are opposed to vaccination. Has the well already been so poisoned that people will refuse to take the pill when they are diagnosed with Covid, or is this "solution" somehow more palatable to people because it doesn't involve an injection and is viewed as less invasive?

Edit- Also curious to see if this actually encourages laziness in preventing infection because now, "there's a pill for it!"

I wonder if this is something that would work well with a vaccine further increasing protection or if it is just an alternative form of protection.

Well, you see, the vaccine is really new. It hasn't been in development for very long, and it is just a trick by Big Pharma to get us to be dependent on it. Plus, the guv'mint wants us to take it, so it's bad!

This pill, on the other hand, that's a result of hard research by scientists. There is no pressure from Big Pharma to get this approved.

Please make the pill red in color

Putin- Everything is fine. That's why I've taken a total of 4 Covid Vaccinations... Trust me comrade

1st Sputnik shot in March
2nd Sputnik shot in April
Sputnik Booster on Sunday
Experimental Nasal spray same day

Moscow (CNN)Russian President Vladimir Putin has tested an experimental Covid-19 nasal vaccine that is not yet in clinical trial phase, his fourth vaccination in total, he said Wednesday.

Putin also received a Russian-made Sputnik Light booster on Sunday, six months after his second dose of Sputnik V.

After receiving the booster shot, Putin volunteered to take part in testing the intranasal vaccine in development by the Gamaleya Center, the maker of Sputnik V and the subsequent single dose Sputnik Light, he said at a televised meeting with government members.

Putin said he "didn't feel anything" after the intranasal vaccination. "Today, after these two procedures -- the injection and the nasal form, the second part -- I already went in for sports this morning. So I can testify that everything is developing the way our scientists say it does," he told ministers.

I’m surprised he took the Russian made vaccine.

Well, he says he did. In reality? Who knows?

I thought the same thing. The guy is a mega billionaire. Even if he wasn't the supreme ruler of a country, he had access to whatever he wanted when he wants it.

Putin likely got Moderna like all the rest of the elite. It's considered the best and they can get whatever they want.

He's just doing PR work related to their own vaccines. Like the good ol dictator he is.

I think it finally came out that the Sputnik numbers aren't bad. Better than Sinovac for example.

Here we go again...

New variant discovered in my country (South Africa)

Just saw a twitter thread about that yesterday.

Keep in mind that it's not a Delta variant, so when they talk about the mutations that make it more transmissible they're talking about from a lesser, non-Delta strain. Transmissiblity may end up less than Delta, or more, obv, but at this stage we don't know all we know is there's a lot of mutations on the spikes and that's indicative of more transmissibility.

This Nature article does a better job of explaining than I do.

Based on the evidence presented indicative of a detrimental change in COVID-19 epidemiology, the TAG-VE has advised WHO that this variant should be designated as a VOC, and the WHO has designated B.1.1.529 as a VOC, named Omicron,"

I can't help but think about the phrase, "I am the alpha and the omega, the beginning and the end"

And I just need to know what Lurr!, Ruler of Omicron Person 8, has to say about this.

"My hands are huuuuuuuge!"

They can touch anything but themselves! OH WAIT!

Omicron Perseii 8, I think?

Yeah, autocorrect typo.

Greek has two "O" letters. This is not that one.

Here's the Greek word for "I work": δουλεύω (thoo leh voh where the "th" is pronounced like "there")

The second letter is omicron. The last letter is omega. No, I don't know why.

Supposedly, it's because ancient Greek had a long O and a short O. Omega was long, and omicron was short. Now it doesn't? So I'm given to understand.

Apparently Omikron has a Nomad Soul, since it's already popping up in various places in Europe and Asia.

2 confirmed cases in Munich, 1 case in Frankfurt, 13 on returning flights from South Africa to Amsterdam (out of 61 that tested positive out of 600 tested), Denmark....

Edit: I was repeating something I saw on Twitter but now can’t find or confirm. Removed content for now.

Dr Angelique Coetzee, the South African doctor who first spotted the new Covid variant Omicron, says the patients seen so far have had "extremely mild symptoms" - but more time is needed before we know the seriousness of the disease for vulnerable people.

Watch her tell the BBC's Andrew Marr how patients in South Africa have told her they've been feeling.

Vid at the link. Reassuring, but also really early.

South Africa is just were it was first identified. It's pretty likely that it didn't originate there so seeing it in other places already is expected.

Yeah, by the time a new variant is identified I’d imagine it is already present in a LOT of places. It seems like a process of catch-up given how easily the virus spreads and the potential for people to be asymptomatic.

While I’m supposed to be back in the office I’ve been super sporadic with it. This isn’t making me want to try any harder.

Fingers crossed this ends up being no big deal and at the least, drives more people to get vaccinated.

The good part about Australia is that we just don't have widespread resistance to the concept of vaccination.

Uh, actually, I've been reading The Daily Wire and listening to FOX News, and you're all under the control of a brutal, totalitarian government.

Encountered this again today, and it's just.... just mind-boggling. Do Australians understand the absolutely deranged way U.S. conservatives talk about them right now?
