[News] Post a Political News Story

Ongoing discussion of the political news of the day. This thread is for 'smaller' stories that don't call for their own thread. If a story blows up, please start a new thread for it.

I read that piece today and largely agree with it. Alex Pareene is really sharp and a great Twitter follow.

This is why I keep coming back to this. The only option for Democrats is to materially improve the well-being of as many Americans as possible. They’ll never win purely on messaging with no results.

I think this should also be posed in the Biden Thread.

The smallest violin playing the saddest song for the biggest grifters and assholes out there.

I hope anyone still in contact with them ghosts them forever for the remainder of their pathetic lives.

They’re more ideologues than grifters and unfortunately I doubt any of them will face any social repercussions that they haven’t already faced by being outed as nazis. Most of them are still active in nazi circles to various degrees, and Cantwell and Heimbach both still appear on neo-nazi shows despite Cantwell being in prison and Heimbach claiming to have left the movement. Spencer is the only one that has actually faced any real ostracization and that was more because he made himself too much of a target for antifascists. Spencer actually got tricked into appearing on a fake right-wing talk show earlier this year by a leftist youtube prankster who spent the entire interview asking how it felt that the meme of Spencer getting punched is more popular and well-known than Spencer himself ever will be.

Less pleasantly, all of them basically got punished for saying the quiet part loud too early and too inartfully. Take a look at who Paul Gosar is spending time with and what he is doing now as a sitting Senator and tell me the ideological difference.

Richard Spencer walked so Nick Fuentes and the rest could run. He was just ahead of his time.

They are insane.

Soured QAnon follower writes open letter to Trump: "This is starting to get very old"

At least one disillusioned QAnon follower is speaking out, "tired of" the cult's shifty dates and broken promises of fantastical events that never materialize.

In an open letter to Donald Trump, Michael Flynn, Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping, and John F. Kennedy Jr., "if he is alive," which appeared on the Telegram channel, according to Insider, the deflated believer, Donny Warren, vented his frustrations.

"At the beginning of October, we were told of a Red October, with rumors of mass arrests across the world," he wrote, referring to the Q conspiracy that "patriots" would take over the White House in October while the elite cabal of Democrat cannibalistic pedophiles across the globe would be arrested en masse.

"We were given hints by 'Q' experts that November was to be THE month," he wrote. November, remember, was the promised month that Kennedy Jr. would suddenly pop up and announce he wasn't dead after all.

"I told a few of my awake friends that either this would be the best Thanksgiving ever, or the worst. Guess which one it was? …

"For months, I have anticipated each day with excitement knowing that I was watching my president and his crew of Patriots take back our country and our freedom. I am losing that excitement now … This is starting to get very old."

And about his family: "They think I am a nut for believing in all this."

He might enjoy the stamp-autographed Oval Office pic he gets back, though...

(CNN)Dr. Mehmet Oz, a cardiothoracic surgeon and television personality, is running for the US Senate in Pennsylvania as a Republican, according to an op-ed published Tuesday in the conservative Washington Examiner.

"During the pandemic, I learned that when you mix politics and medicine, you get politics instead of solutions. That's why I am running for the U.S. Senate: to help fix the problems and to help us heal," Oz wrote.

He's a quack and a crook so he's a natural for GOP politics.

He seems like a typical republican

Dr. Oz is offering Trump advice for handling the coronavirus. Here are 8 times he's made false or baseless medical claims.

A liar and huckster who wants to fleece people. Republicans love that sh*t. I mean seriously they seem to go out of their way to get quacks as their leaders.

The shade.

Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ09) wrote:

I want to congratulate my North Jersey constituent Dr. Oz on his run for US Senate in Pennsylvania. I'm sure this fully genuine candidacy will capture the hearts of Pennsylvanians.

Oz said in a 2007 interview that he would "consider" running for office someday, calling himself a "moderate Republican."

In his campaign video, Oz criticized the federal response to Covid-19, saying that "Washington got it wrong."

"They took away our freedom without making us safer," he said.

Just a reminder for the beliefs possessed by a "moderate Republican"...

Chris Cuomo just suspended by CNN indefinitely.

He'll probably get the Jeffrey Toobin treatment.

What did he do? (Too lazy to try to dig through all the inevitable trash google hits.)

He (wanted to) helped in the messaging for the cover up of the sex scandal during the last months of his brother's administration. Apparently there are many more incriminating documents that haven't been leaked yet.

And he’s also sexually harassed women himself. And he’s a terrible TV host. It’s unfathomable to me that he’s lasted this long.

I mean…

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/11/30/b...

Jeff Zucker, CNN’s president, supported Mr. Cuomo for months, declining to discipline him even after reports showed that the anchor had participated in strategy sessions with his brother’s political team, a breach of basic reportorial conduct. Earlier this year, the network floated the idea to Mr. Cuomo that he could take a temporary leave if he wanted to focus more formally on aiding his brother’s defense.

But this week presented a harsher set of facts for Mr. Zucker as he weighed the fate of his 9 p.m. host.

In scores of emails and text messages between Mr. Cuomo his brother’s inner circle, he repeatedly offered advice — “Please let me help with the prep,” he texted a senior aide in March — and made efforts to track down the status of pending articles at other news outlets, including Politico and The New Yorker, that concerned allegations of sexual harassment by Andrew Cuomo.

At one point, the governor’s former top aide, Melissa DeRosa, asked the anchor if he could check his “sources” about a rumor that Politico was working on an article that included additional accusations. “On it,” Chris Cuomo responded.

The Cuomo family is so corrupt. In a just world both of those clowns would be in jail.

I've never understood the allegation of family mob ties, either. Wasn't their father some blue collar plumber who just wanted to run their family business with his brother in Brooklyn?

I have no clue about that. My corruption allegation in this case is that Andrew Cuomo as governor lied about the risk to seniors in congregate living and Chris Cuomo actively knew about this and chose not to cover it on his “news” program.

I’m sure there are other crimes out there, but that alone should have them both locked up, in my opinion.

Vrikk is making a funny. Their father, Mario, was the governor of New York.

Looks like SCOTUS is leaning towards reducing the availability of abortion...

Coney Barrett thinks that the problem can be solved by adoption

Justice Amy Coney Barrett returned to a theme she has asked repeatedly about during today's hearing, asking how the growing availability of adoption

Roberts seems to think that a middle ground would be reducing when abortions can occur to 15 weeks. That's a 2 month reduction to existing laws. Beer Bro suggested that he would be on board with that.

And, step by step, the anti-abortion agenda keeps moving along:

This seems like it should go here. The web site is rather cruddy but the stories are good.

A good friend of mine has been trying to adopt for years. Years, and they still are waiting.

It can be an insanely expensive, extremely stressful, extremely taxing, and deflating process. People saying "just adopt" have zero clue how screwed up the process is. Giving birth is as simple as just having sex and waiting -- there are no requirements or tests you need to take. Adoptions, though? A grueling, red-taped nightmare.

This.

I have some dear friends who tried the old fashioned way, discovered insurmountable fertility problems, and then got so discouraged/depressed by the cost, stress, uncertainty and time involved in the adoption process that they basically gave up on starting a family entirely.

It took us two years to get into the Iowa foster care system, and after we got our license another two until we could adopt a child that needed a home.

Yup. Adoption is not a viable replacement even if you ignore forcing a woman to carry the fetus to term.
