Did anyone actually try Gladius?

I know some folks commented on this when it came out, with
the verdict "meh". But anyone else had a swat at it since
Thanksgiving? Is it good for an inveterate strategy/wargamer?

I rented it. I tried to give it a shot, played 3-4 hours. I usually really like turn-based strategy, but it just didn''t do anything for me. Plus the UI is pretty crap in my opinion.

I pretty much agree with LG. I bought it, played the heck out of it for a weekend and haven''t gone back. I don''t why but it didn''t grab me. I suggest renting first.

I''ve also rented it, just this past weekend, but haven''t really sat down with it yet. (Rented from Gamefly, so I don''t feel like I have to play it all the time). Seems fairly interesting so far, not sure if it will win me over though, too many other games that are just more interesting right now.

Well I picked it up and and found it to be digital crack. Haven''t stopped playing it since I got it. If you''re a fan of ""tactics-like"" games you''ll find a lot to like.

It does start off rather slowly, and it does take awhile to progress so you might be better off renting it first but there''s a bunch of us thinking it''s hellafun.

The demo on OXM wasn''t accurate either so I wouldn''t make any judgements based on that.

As a gamer who LOVED Psychonauts and Gladius, 2021 is turning out to be the best year!

Just another PSA here. Gladius is now officially available for Xbox as a back compat title.

As someone who loved the game when he played it nearly 20 years ago, I’m jumping in here to simply share that the backwards compatibility treatment looks better than the original. I say that as someone who kept his original Xbox to play this game (and Phantom Dust, Wrath Unleashed and Deathrow). The graphics look sharper by far.

I know it won’t be for everyone, but I’m overjoyed that it’s out and available. And I hope that level of enthusiasm encourages some to try it. Before Oblivion, this was my 100+ hour game.

Wow, I adored Galdius back in the day. I don't have a copy of the game or any modern Xbox console at this point, but I would play a remaster of this in a heartbeat!

It’s glorious. I’m back to loving / hating / then loving again the sheer amount of text between fights.

Yeah, me too. Unlike the guys who posted back in 2004, I played this to completion on the Roman side (whatever it was called), then went back and played through the first chapter of the Germanic side.
