NCAA Basketball 21-22 Catch-All

Pages

Congrats to Baylor from the spring. Your hero image.

Here we go again. Hopefully covid-free normal basketball starts Tues Nov 9 with a slew of games.

Opening day, 22 of 25 ranked teams are in action.

Of course, Kentucky-Duke is the ranked vs ranked game. And Kansas v Michigan St is the opener for the Champions Classing, but Sparty not ranked yet. (26th, 1st in others receiving votes) So should be entertaining.

Preseason Top 25

I don't have a season preview or anything yet. But with the way Louisville's football season has went the last couple weeks, I'm ready for hoops. 9pm tomorrow, Go Cards!

I caught UNC's exhibition against Elizabeth City State, and they look... better than last year. Low bar?

We'll see how it goes. Lots of outside shooting, much smaller post-presence. Will be interesting to see how Coach Davis fares in his first season as head coach.

Watching Manhattan on ESPN3 because live basketball.

More games all night.

Yeah Louisville's 2 exhibitions were big blowouts. Most important the pace of play was much faster. I want us to run like UNC instead of sick slow barely basketball style that Virginia plays. Our tempo at Kenpom has been down at 300 out of 350 last couple seasons. Gross.

Could you imagine how bad an athletic program must be that it's basketball team suffers a double digit loss at home to a team that JUST moved up to Division 1, and that's the SECOND worst sports-related story to happen that day to that school. May not even be top 3 over the last 7 days.

What a horrible place to be a fan of.

Cards looked sloppy and sluggish against Southern. Won by 12, not really in doubt the key last 10-15 minutes. But way too close for way too long.

Duke beat Kentucky. Yay UK loses. But ugh Duke. It's going to be a long season of everyone worshipping Coach K on his farewell tour.

I hate to admit it, but they looked good. Keels was an unpleasant surprise. Banchero looks like a problem. Moore and Roach have improved, and Mark Williams is going to be a solid post presence.

They're not invincible. Defense against the 3 seemed weak. They also missed a lot of outside shots. Still though, they have a lot of season to improve.

Hopefully this is the year Buzz puts it all together at Texas A&M!

I like Buzz. Taunting WVU is the right move.

f*cking Furman

6 games with a head coach suspended makes some weird sh*t happen.

First home November loss for Louisville in my lifetime. Not since 1972 Vanderbilt

Brown ends the first half with 50pts, shooting nearly 65%. Gah.

I would not want to be in that UNC locker room. They'd better come back on the floor ready to defend in the second half!

Phew. Took some serious adjustments in the second half, but they finally found some defense and consistency at the offensive end.

Ugly win, but I'll take it.

Yeah I was watching your score, seeing if you would join us tonight.

Now UCLA and Villanova started at 1130 eastern? Late night Friday top 5 matchup. I'm in

Oh dang, I missed that was on but caught the ending. Both of those teams look good. UCLA could make another deep run in the tournament.

Gonzaga thoroughly crushed Texas last night. I guess Mark Few is trying to get his team out in front of some heavier competition earlier in the season, since his conference doesn't often present any opponents of significance.

Feels like Louisville has been in a rough spot lately with only 1 March Madness win the last 4 seasons. But it's not like we've been awful. Saw this stat today:

Louisville’s loss to Furman dropped the Cards to 1-1 and ended their 511-game streak of having a win-loss record above .500 (not counting 0-0 records). The streak began on Dec. 8, 2006, when Louisville beat Ohio to improve to 3-2.

That's... pretty good. To stay above .500 for 14 seasons and through a coaching change. And probably would have continued if not for Mack's suspension.

Anyway, cruising tonight, up 20 over Navy with 9 min to play. Yeah, the Navy team that beat Virginia last week. Hm...

Another halfway ugly win with better second half play. College of Charleston is one of the first teams I've seen in a while that wants to run faster than UNC does!

Definitely a team still figuring things out, but at least they're not giving up like some past squads.

Was hoping that the College could beat the Heels again but they needed better shooting from behind the arc.

Still very excited from the early results of Kelsey regime!

Watched Seton Hall upset Michigan tonight. And then caught Oregon getting rolled by BYU and turned that off. Damn.

2 ranked teams down, lot of week left

Tennessee (17) plays Villanova (5) Saturday. Looking forward to seeing how UT looks against a good team. Our freshman point guard Kennedy Chandler is as good as advertised so far. Just needs some Barnes D training.

Damn. I thought UNC did a good job of fighting back to stay in it for a good portion of the game, but hit a cold streak at a really bad time. Purdue has some solid talent and a monstrous frontcourt.

I guess we're facing off tomorrow, Mannish.

Dang, I meant to watch that, but ESPN News? WTF?

Cards were on ACC Network Extra, even worse. But playing Detroit Mercy, coached by former (way back) Indiana coach Mike Davis, and led by his youngest son, scoring a bunch of points per game. He had 27, but we held them off. Close late, tied at 67, and we scored the final 6 and survived.

Going to a be a rough Thanksgiving tournament Thurs-Sat I believe. But last 2 games without our coach at least.

I was also wondering about the ESPNews thing. I guess there's still too much college football to show, and that brings in more money than men's basketball.

ACCNextra seems to sometimes be available via the ESPN app, though that thing is flat out terrible on my PS5. It frequently hangs during a commercial break (in that the picture freezes/doesn't transition back to the game, but the audio continues).

Yeah so much football. Villanova v Tennessee was also on ESPNN today. Ranked vs ranked hoops. That deserves better.

App works good on my TCL (Roku) TV, so I never have installed the PS5 app to try it. But I also use my PC a lot of the time.

Tenn up 20 on UNC with 5 to play. Think we're done here.

I missed Purdue-Villanova earlier, Boilermakers by 6, hm.

St Bonaventure (4-0) v Marquette (5-0) and Arizona v Michigan tonight. Someone is getting their first loss, and Arizona could too. Interesting.

Yeah, wow. Uh. I wonder if UNC remembered to leave the hotel and come play that game. They looked completely lost on the court today. Night and day difference than yesterdays efforts against Purdue.

Lots of back to the drawing board, I think.

So UT stunk vs Villanova on Saturday. HORRIBLE shooting even when shots were open. Just wasn't able to play against the D.

Then came back to play pretty well on Sunday against UNC. Seemed to work together better on pick and rolls, etc.

I'm confused. I think we have potential but I guess this is what a young team will do early in the year.

I do like our new guys. I think Hunley-Hatfield has the most distance to go of the three that played a lot this weekend. He seems to zone out at times. Although against UNC he seemed much improved vs the first game. The two freshmen point guards seem more mature with their game. They found a gem in Ziegler.

Vescovi played very well both games, he's thriving being a shooting guard instead of running point all the time. Glad to see Fulky back out there, but I'm going to be sick of all the announcer talk about how old he is. He's back to prove a point after being literally knocked out in the SEC tourney last year on a very dirty play vs Florida, and is apparently doing pretty well on the NIL front because he's got a lot of fan love.

Barnes has got to hate how these guys play D at times. Chandler is going to be amazing, but seems to guess and make bets sometimes on a side to defend, only to have the opponent blow by.

#2 UConn vs #1 South Carolina women on ESPN for noon hoops Feast Week.

Lots of tournaments and day games all week. This is fun

This is a great game so far. 52 all with 2 min left in the 3rd.

And #1 v #2 men tomorrow night. This is going to be a fun week.

UCLA getting run out of the building.

Meanwhile Cincy and Arkansas is a great back and forth game, almost March Madness atmosphere.

Yeah, this #1 vsv#2 matchup is nothing like I expected. UCLA shot what ... 23% in the first half? Just bad.

Pitino just beating top 10 Alabama with Iona. And a couple Louisville transfers. I'm fine.
