NCAA Football 2021-22 Season

Fountain week

Vandy also has the longest P5 gap since being ranked in AP top 10. 1947 or something.

Was trivia during the Wake game Saturday since last week was the first time ever in the top 10 for them. I think Duke is second longest since 1962.

I have no idea who runs South Carolina's social media, but they deserve a medal.

So good!

Just as everyone predicted this summer, Stetson Bennett the IV is a semi-finalist for the Davey O'Brien award.

So is Hendon Hooker, who he'll be facing Saturday night.

Cincy only moves up to 5. Alabama still at 2. Ohio St at 4? But Oregon at 3 only because they beat Ohio St? WTF.

Hendon Hooker, local guy! I had lost track of him after he went up to Blacksburg. Glad to see he's doing well at Tennessee.

He's doing well. UT is pretty outmanned this year with all the transfers out of the program, but this Heupel offense is pretty quarterback friendly (if you don't overthrow wide open receivers constantly like Milton did.)

Here are some highlights from last week. Expect this week to be much more difficult.

My understanding is his relative success at UT is adding to the pressure on Fuente at VT.

I believe it. 8-5 and 7-6 were OK for the end of the Beamer Era because, you know, Beamer. But Hokie fan expects better these days.

The worst part is that UVa is better at football than Va Tech. It's OK that UVa is better in basketball because Tech has never really cared about hoops, but football dominance will not stand. If Tech loses the Commonwealth Cup this year (for the second time in three years), I guarantee Fuente will get left in Charlottesville. Even if Tech wins, I doubt he'll be back.

And thanks for the Hooker update!

I'm Oregon fan and last week when they were 4 I was surprised too. With that said I think this is more about where college football is at this year. For example, Alabama at 2. Why are they better than Oregon? Who have they beat? The only ranked team they have beat is Mississippi. They struggled against a bad LSU team and a bad Florida team. Cincinnati has a nice win against Notre Dame but other than that has just beaten garbage teams and has been struggling to do that lately. Ohio State beat an ok Penn State team but lost at home to Oregon and hasn't really looked dominate this season. Honestly, other than Georgia for sure being #1, I think you can put 2-8 or 9 in any order and make a case for or against.

They have to put Alabama at 2 so the loser of the likely SEC Championship game still stays in, otherwise they actually will have to expand the field.

1. Most well-known former player loses his mind and becomes the Pariah of NFL
2. Loses to a team that hadn't won in over 2 years, 10-3
3. Has 44 players now in COVID protocol (despite 99% vaccination) and has postponed its next game to December 4 (after the Pac-12 champ game, not that it matters for either)
4. Now in a war of words between team, athletic department, and city
5. Basketball team loses its opening game... against a team that JUST moved into D1A.. by double digits... at home.

Quiz: How many of these things happened to CAL in the last 7 days:

A. All Of the Above
B. RU F'ing Kidding Me
C. FML
D. GO BEARS!

Yeah I saw the game postponed and wondered if Kaaron had been back to visit campus lately...

Sorry man

If you haven't, big recommendation to catch the end of Ball State/NIU, which features the single worst game-winning FG celebration by a kicker I've ever seen.

Wooooooooooooooooooooo!

Absolutely thrilled for you, because Christ I hate Miami.

Meanwhile:

PUNT GOD FOR HEISMAN

Wonder if KU's first ever win in Austin will summon a certain someone to this thread, I'm sure he would have endorsed the Jayhawk fans chanting SEC after the game.

Meanwhile, Hendon Hooker and the Vols had me legitimately nervous for almost a whole half of football yesterday. Mannish, if Heupel can raise the talent level in Knoxville, there is no reason your guys can't pass the swamp lizards in the overall hierarchy of the East.

Kansas beating UTA at football IN AUSTIN completely erased the pain of the Ags flailing, ineffectual loss to Ole Miss.

This year will be known as the year our backup QB beat Bama and UTA made loser history.

That's Kansas first P5 win in how many years?

That's the way I feared that game would go. Exitment from the Vols in spots only to end in dissapointment. That's a tough defence to be undermanned to, but the scheme seems viable long term. And our D is just very thin with all of the "transactional" Vols that left in the off season.

I'm sick of the other teams faking injuries to slow down our offense though. That's the common practice against teams like UT or Ole Miss that run fast. Need to make the injured player sit out the series and allow no subs on the injury time out for the team with the player down.

Tennessee will do it, too. Just watch for an O Lineman to fall out frequently on extra point plays. So not really blaming teams for doing it, it's just an exploit of the way the rules work.

Recruiting isn't going great so far for Heupel, but I'm hoping the product on the field looks good for some transfers. After all, Hooker has shown you can come in and revive a career.

Congrats on the win. That's a good team you've got.

Va Tech didn't even let Justin Fuente go to C-ville. He's out after six years and a big win last week over Duke. I guess the W scared the AD, who was probably thinking they might have to keep him if the Hokies got hot at the end of the season.

Sometimes the timing of these things are to get in the mix early and not miss out on coaches you think might get poached by other teams after the season is over when other coaches get fired.

Looks at the lizard's results after the Cocktail Party. Mission accomplished, coach.

Come on did you REALLY think despite how down I've been on Cal this year that Big Game Week would pass without me posting about "The most Amazing, Sensational, Dramatic, Heart-Rending, Exciting, Finish in the history of college football"?

40 years later... and everything else is still just a distant second.

THERE WILL BE NO EXTRA POINT!

GO BEARS!

I saw someone say online that Smart should be really, really angry about the confidence of the locker room getting broken like this, and that Georgia should play this for every recruit henceforth.

This week's SEC Shorts was done w Fed in mind.
