NCAA Football 2021-22 Season

I have begun saying "UTA" in light of UTSA and UTEP becoming the serious football schools in that university system.

Careful. You might catch Carlbear as collateral damage with that logic.

Sorry I've been too busy replying "he went to Butte Community College" all day to know whats going on.

Given how many times Carl has collateraled his own conference over the playoff expansion issue while hoping to hit the SEC, there's an element of poetic justice to this.

*shrug* California happens to only be related to athletics. UC Berkeley is where the Nobel Laureates work, with 3 elements on the periodic table named after it (still no stanfordium) and no one will get that mixed up with the other 8 members of the UC System. You can call us UC Berkeley all you want.. Cal is easier to write and California rolls off the tongue better when doing our cheers or fight songs. The only thing that is annoying (as written in both the academic and athletic style guide) is that there is no such thing as "California Berkeley" or "Cal Berkeley". Pick your poison.

Besides, most people east of the Colorado (and those that only know athletics) probably still don't know there's a difference between "Cal" and "UCLA". Though hopefully everyone knows neither is Butte Community College.

Awesome... Cal is @Arizona, the winless doormat of the Pac-12. Coming off 2 strong games, Cal shouldn't have a problem right? (line is Cal -10 when I last checked)... but wait...

Arizona has a 5-game winning streak against Cal, and the last time Cal won in Tuscon was 2004, when Aaron Rodgers was our QB Marshawn Lynch was our RB.

Past experience doesn't determine future results you say? Cal has "multiple players in COVID protocol". Names have not been released, and we are making the trip and expected to play.. but at this point I have no idea who will be suiting up for us tomorrow afternoon.

All this adds up to what will likely be a huge disappointment for us, and we'll be known as the Team that lost to the winless team, probably completing the annual Pac-12 Circle of Suck (in SEC terms, its the Quality Loss Golden Ring of Wonderment).

Sam Houston is going P5!

That's it. That's the post. I've been to multiple graduation ceremonies at Sam for friends who went there. Also acted in a class project TV show there for one of them, "The Unknown Soldier". It was a post-WWII drama with flashbacks to action sequences from WWII. When my friend graduated, they invented a new award to give him.

You mean they're going FBS.

Out of the WAC, which itself was once FBS but has of course been on a collapsing path ever since Fresno State left, to join C-USA.

Yes, FBS, thank you.

Shootout in Chapel Hill today. UNC and Wake just trading touchdowns mostly. Terrible fumble call gave Wake their first 3 points for free though.

well good news.. only one key starter is out for Cal on offense.. bad news.. its QB Chase Garbers. Left side of the line is also backups, not sure if that's injury or COVID.

Again Arizona is terrible, but its not like Cal were world beaters to begin with. Any injuries for Cal, particularly on D is going to be very bad as our depth is very limited now.

Edit... our K is out too... great... scorigami here we come.

My 2-week-old dream of a Wake Forest-UTSA National Championship is still alive.

Aww phooey.

Terrible final drive from Wake Forest though. Yeeeeesh.

I know no one actually has the Pac-12 network, but if for some reason you do, this game is going to have Cal-TCU Cheez-it bowl type performance. Arizona is horrible to begin with and is on its 4th string QB. Cal is Covid decimated... its a day game in Tucson so its hot and the sun is making catching deep balls and punts a lesson in futility.

If you like to watch train wrecks... tune in.

and there we have it. Unbelievable... I've been disappointed by Cal many times.. but between the Aaron Rodgers and now this COVID fiasco in this same week, this may be the first time I'm actually questioning my fandom.

Also, the COVID situation for Cal isn't because 24 players decided to go Aaron and tested positive. The football team is 99% vaccinated, so at most 2 players may not be. The City of Berkeley has some crazy rules about vaccinated players showing no symptoms required to go into protocol. While we can all say "good, that's what should happen", the problem is that's not the NCAA or Pac-12 rule..its one city's rule, and its a rule that no other FBS or maybe even FCS needs to deal with.

Sparty in trouble after big win last week.

PURDUE WANTS BAMA

SEC AFTER DARK!

Another 4th quarter lead blown for Louisville. Story of the season. 3 losses by 3, 1, and 6. Tonight 1st and goal from the goddamn 2, and couldn't punch it in for the win.

Beth Mowins announced the UT vs UK game.

Y'all's offense makes me a little nervous next week. Really hope deep pocketed Dawgs fans wave too much money at your ticket-holders on stubhub and we can tamp down your crowd noise a bit.

I don't think we have a shot, but crazy things have happened this year.

I had thought our D was doing better, but UK just embarrassed them in this game. Luckily we got three sacks toward the end of the game.

UT only had the ball for 13:52...IN THE GAME.

I saw only three times in NCAA history has a team had the ball for less than 15 minutes. The other two were blow outs against the team with under 15 minutes.

UK had 35 first downs and 612 yards. And lost.

Tennessee ran 47 plays. Kentucky ran 99. Tennessee won by three points.

College Football is gorgeous, moronic chaos and I can't quit it.

Um... NFL, you can draft that punter.

Purdue at Ohio Stare next week, and Mrs. Iso will be at that game.

Ags annihilate Auburn, Cyclones annihilate UTA, what a glorious day!

Well, sorry Pizza, but with the Cal Rose Bowl option going from highly improbable to impossible now, I'm going to have to root for Oregon in the Rose Bowl which means someone leap frogs you in the CFB mess or you lose a game (just not the Pac-12 championship game). For some reason I know you value the Tangerine Bowl or whatever non-Rose Bowl game is hosting this year, but Utah in the Rose Bowl is just not acceptable.

As more information is coming out regarding what happened to Cal, it looks like the only difference between Cal/Berkeley's COVID procedure and conference procedure is that if an "outbreak" is determined, everyone has to be tested, regardless of vaccination status or symptoms, which is likely going to catch more positives which puts more people in the protocol.

Also, just saw this yesterday... that's a lot of quality losses out there in the SEC.

I think Oregon will have a tough time winning out. I don't trust the defense enough and I think beating Utah twice to get there will be tough.

Fresno managed to squeeze not one but two chokes to drop themselves out of the top 25 in one season. Truly impressive.
