Messi yanked at the half again. Hm.

He was clearly in awe of Jonathan David's talent.

Arsenal looking very solid again. Came out of the gates inspired and creative. Settled down after the 2 goals a little too much for my liking but a good result. Ramsdale making a case to be in the best keepers of the year discussion.

I know we all like goals but that free kick save from Ramsdale was spectacular.

Ya they are catching some form. Finally a decent run of healthy players doesn't hurt.

I was concerned about the Brighton and Palace results but maybe they are just actually pretty good.

Draw with Liverpool and beating City make those results much more palatable now.

Crystal Palace's rebuild is going pretty damn well. I was sure they were finally going down this season but Viera is doing a great job.

Honestly, at this point, Tottenham should regret not selling Kane because he has been almost total dead weight for them.

That whole attacking front looks dead in the water.

Nice goal in the Netherlands.

SIDENOTE: I'm delighted with this, yes, but look at the table right now.

It is a bit "the same teams keep going up/coming down," isn't it?

Spurs have sacked Nuno Espírito Santo after 4 months and 17 games in charge.

Spurs meltdown progressing well then.

Well that escalated.

I definitely didn't have Nuno first coach sacked.

Edit: missed Xisco Munoz. But maybe most people did also.

Classic Spurs being Spurs

Finally a team that realises you have to sack your manager before the Guardian's Football Weekly records.

Edit: Turns out they sacked him during the podcast!

Edit Edit : Best of all, they were only still on air because they were talking about yogurt and Taribo West's birthday party, otherwise they would have been done before the firing!

I think sacking Nuno's the right move. Clearly wasn't working and now Spurs get another kick at the managerial carousal to hopefully get someone good.

Those shirts are pretty nice.

Apparently Spurs threw the game against United so they could get to Conte first.

This is a shame, because I wanted to see Conte at United with Ronaldo playing wingback.

FIFA making Mexico play two home matches behind closed doors because of their fans' homophobic chants.

Hopefully they don't let them weasel out of it this time.

Edit: Mexico has just announced a "home" match against Chile, in Austin TX, outside of an international window so the weaseling has begun.

I know the refs have been calling less fouls but has this extended to yellows also?

In the Everton Wolves game Holgate has been called for two really obvious fouls and he doesn't even have a single yellow.

He could be easily off with another ref. Might just be Atkinson.

So, Conte to Tottenham is probably gonna work out well.

Unai Emery to Newcastle... dunno. It might work but I think they need a short term specialist.

And Ronaldo, again. It's just so weird, because they'd be DOA without him, but their total reliance on him is just not good.

Both those goals from ManU today were pretty to watch. They could have saved a lot of money by not buying Sancho who really has not seen much action as of yet.

What is even happening there?

€85 million and he's basically a sub.

Fantastic line from Liew at The Guardian after Man Utd vs Atalanta, about how Solskjaer's decision to play Rashford off Ronaldo was a wise one given Rashford's experience in feeding children.

Shouldn't they just go get Nuno?

If Jorge Mendes is smart he gets him installed and just turns on the taps straight into his own bank account.

You know, despite my current bias, there’s nothing more satisfying than seeing a football player sent off for basic shithousery. Especially when they are an Atletico player.

It may be the same teams, but I'm definitely happy to see Fulham taking Blackburn to the woodshed like this.

EDIT: What comes after the woodshed?

Okay, I know this is an American sports company tweeting primarily for Americans, but CRIMINY this is stupid pandering.

"Here's two Ballon d'Or candidates, another really, really good player, and one American who we have carrying the American flag as if him being American matters at all to his Italian team's progress. (Also he's not the best player on that team.)"

Apparently Eddie Howe is the next choice, which is a big downgrade

Also, apparently it is not going well

@MiguelDelaney

The Newcastle story so far astonishing. The hierarchy have so far botched every step since taking over.

Even from the opening days, agents and people in football were astounded at some of the questions they were asking.
