The GWJ CRPG Club - Part 1 - Old Thread

I don't think I'll be rejoining this until I've finished at least 2 plathroughs of WotR, so you've definietly got time as far as I'm concerned!

Slight technical difficulties... coming soon!

Hey man - if, for whatever reason you need or want to take a breather from organising this then you only need to ask if you’d like a hand.

Just wanting to let you know if need a break. I hope that’s coming across the right way.

I hope the technical difficulties wasn't a computer catching fire!

*crickets*

GB, I know this was said upthread, but it's totally fine if you need a break. The pandemic's been hard on all of us, and at month 20 (wow) I'm definitely finding every little thing a little (or a lot) more challenging than it would be otherwise.

So folks, how long are we going to wait here? With all respect to Godzilla Blitz, if he isn't willing or able to run the club anymore then he needs to say so and step down so that the Club can continue.

Torment: Tides of Numenera was just narrowly edged-out by The Outer Worlds in the last voting session. Maybe, in the interests of time & deference to GB, we might consider moving forward with that for Q4?

I’m up for whatever. Just hope Godzilla’s OK.

Hmm. Seems like nobody wants to bite. How about a quick anonymous straw poll over the next day or so:

"Like" my post above to go forward with Torment: Tides of Numenera immediately; or

"Like" this post for a full re-vote, which would presumably take about a week to complete (and I don't mind running this one - I coincidentally have a bunch of free time).

That goes without saying, of course. I see he's been posting regularly on his YT channel, so there's at least that level of confirmation.

That is good to hear at least.

He probably just got tired of you guys, specifically!

Spoiler:

I'm kidding! :/

Playing Torment sounds like a good idea. I dont know if I'd replay it, so I wouldn't vote. But a decent game imo.

Alright, looks like we're a "go" to play Torment: Tides of Numenera for Q4 2021.

Relevant thread.

It's been in my head since summer that I might take a break for the Q4 game, so I haven't been jumping into the thread. Just finished an ME Legendary run this weekend, so I'm gonna give myself a couple days to decide if I want to jump into Torment or revisit for our next club selection. Thanks for picking up the torch, Merphle!

Thanks for taking the lead Merphle. I'll probably hold off on Torment: Tides until it hits a steep discount.

So...

It's about time to queue up another vote if people are interested in continuing on with the CRPG group. Thanks again to Merphle and everyone for sorting things out while I was on sabbatical in the Forbidden Wastelands.

I'd be curious to hear where people are with thoughts on continuing on, though. I'm fine with what the group would like to do.

I also realize there is some updating to do with completion tracking that has piled up. I'm on break starting next week and was thinking I could tidy up things then.

I have a large backlog of RPG's I need an excuse to play, so I'd be interested. Does seem like participation has died off recently though.

Yeah, same here, though frankly I haven't been able to find the willpower to play a traditional isometric RPG lately.

Let's see how others feel over the next day or so. I'm happy to set it up, even if we have a smaller group.

I for one would very much like to continue on, although I did make the mistake of playing through Pathfinder: Kingmaker last month. If you want to follow the trail of a man having a small breakdown then you can check out the pathfinder thread.

I think some of the disengagement was us not really picking up last time on what we all wanted to do without your guidance Blitz - not a criticism or anything, but was a little directionless for a while. I probably would have played Numenera if I hadn’t have batted through pathfinder instead.

Still plenty of cRPGs out there to investigate though

I'm always down for more rpg:s.

Sounds like a good reason to nominate a first- or third-person one!

I’m up for giving another game a shot! Good to see you back GB

I'd be game. Tried to re-light the CRPG fire with PoE2 recently and lost interest almost immediately. Maybe having a Club again can provide to good motivation!

Always ready for more RPG club

Sorry for the delay, we've had quite a day with potential tornadoes and dire wind warnings. Spent some time this afternoon and early evening battening down the hatches and getting a couple days worth of food in the house, only to have the storm slide to our south east and not blast us as expected. Whew!

Since it seems we will have at least a small yet resolute band of merry warriors, I think we should get this show back on the road!

Let's do this...
Right away: Open Nominations & Seconding
December 19: Close Nominations, Open "Pick 6" Round Voting
December 22: Close "Pick 6" Voting, Open Final Voting (Ranked Choice Voting)
(Steam Sale starts December 22)
December 24: Close Voting
December 24: Start New Game!

Also, over the next week I'll set aside some time to update all the completion tracking and whatnot. That'll probably take a bit of time to sort through.

Totally understandable, Sorbicol, and not taken as criticism in the least. Although I do feel guilty for letting things go astray for the fall!

I'll get the Nominations started momentarily. Hold your horses for just a bit.

Like a Phoenix from the ashes, let's get our Game 17 Nominations underway! We'll be playing this game from January through March, and what better way to start your gaming year off with knocking off a CRPG that has been glaring at you from your backlog for a few years.

Rules are simple...

A member can nominate one game, but may second as many games as she or he would like. All seconded games will be included in the initial Pick 6 round of voting.

And new members are welcome! As a special incentive to joining, all new members in December will get free memberships for 2022! Special secret club handshake included free too!*

*Quantities limited.

I nominate Knights of the Old Republic.

I'm still here as well. Might circle back to Torment: Tides at some point, but for now, I've gone down a turn-based strategy hole with Old World, Humankind, and Civ VI. Whether I come out for the next club game will just come down to what the pick ends up being.

To that, will second KOTOR and nominate Wildermyth (which I'm about 1/4 through and is lovely).

EDIT: Ack. It just hit this game is less than a year old (per club rules). Any objections to it? (Is fine if there is.)

I’ve been wanting to play Wildermyth too, and it feels like it’s been out for ages because it was in Early Access for a good year or so previously. That said I think we all talked about that at the time and decided that Early Access games shouldn’t count (otherwise I’d be nominating Baldur’s Gate 3!!) I’m happy to be over-ruled though!

I’ll second KOTOR.

I’m really trying to work out what I want to nominate. I think Greedfall on the basis it’s a little different and something we haven’t really tried yet.

And I'll nominate Wasteland 3.

And I was also gearing to to play Wildermyth next year, but I can wait if the club is interested in playing it. Looks like full release on Steam was June 15, so it should be eligible in Q3 if we're going by official release date.

Wasteland 3

- Wildermyth is showing a release of mid-June, but I think we talked about Early Access kind of being a case-by-case thing because it can mean anything from "incomplete game that's moving through at a steady pace" to "completely finished game that has been in early release for years". I'm not familiar with this game's trajectory, but if it was pretty complete and sitting in early release for a long time, and there hasn't been a recent thread on the game here, and it's not super expensive (this one isn't at $25 plus potential Steam discount), I'd be inclined to include it and let the voting sort it out. Open for thoughts.

I'm going to think about a choice as well, but KOTOR has my eyes wide open.

EDIT: And now Wasteland 3! I think Wasteland 2 was one of my favorite RPGs that we've played so far.

The feng shui is strong with these selections.
