Other Sports Catch-All

Speaking of the Olympics, the rules brought in to stop Caster Semenya because a bunch of rubbish white runners are now been used to stop cis Black Women from running.

Will go back and check out that link.

This is why these laws are so bad; sports are already arbitrary, stop pretending "male" and "female" are any less arbitrary and difficult to parse than why it's the 100m instead of the 120m.

Have a fantastic, evidence-based write up on this elsewhere. Will come back to share after I'm off my phone.

Oh, and by the way, swim caps for natural Black hair have been banned from the Olympics. Funny what the commonality is among these three news bits that happened today.

Why in the world would that be a problem? It's bigger than a standard cap you'd think it'd be a disadvantage.

in the last 2 playoffs combined, Tampa Bay is 14-0 after a loss. Any loss. Averaging 4.8 goals in those games.

G'luck Montreal!

Moral victory!

Ugh. Italy.

Yay Argentina!

It's almost time for the return of ESPN8, the Ocho! Now with more Minecraft and mullets!

The whacky story about a "high school" football team that played on ESPN. Seriously, they named their fake school "BS." That's begging to be caught!

Holy sh*t.

I've always avoided watching the high school games on ESPN. Felt extra exploitative. But damn that's another level

That's crazy. And they're pulling in enough money to make this a worthwhile scam?

Enough to keep their BS afloat.

It sounded like maybe not. Something about a 100k loan in the article, getting evicted from apartments and not paying for hotel rooms. Seems like flying by the seat of their pants and hopefully this publicity shuts it down.

How far can one get in life with a BS diploma?

Check the Liberty University alumni organization.

Aren't there athletic associations in charge in whatever locality this junk is happening that have a say in allowing this to occur?

That's why they don't play against Ohio high schools. All these fake schools just play each other. IMG, the "school" that kicked their ass, is the same thing. They just have more money and better PR.

So, kinda like AAU in basketball, but with some school-y sounding name attached?

AAU is a different kind of bad thing. That's just a recruiting showcase disguised as something trying to teach players how to play better but doesn't actually teach anything.

The prep school thing I think is actually bigger for basketball than football. You used to only hear about it when a player that couldn't qualify academically did a year of prep school and magically qualified. Now, a lot of higher end recruits will go to one of those programs for their last year of high school. Findlay Prep was one of the more well known ones but it apparently just up and closed for unknown reasons a couple of years ago.

Super exciting finishes yesterday in the World disc golf championships for both the men and the women. I was able to watch the women live, but then i went out and played a round myself during the men's final round. The last card on hole 18 produced the top play on Sportscenter last night:

I'm randomly checking back in to say that my friends (including TheWalt and Mudderfudder) continue to play Disc Golf regularly. It's delightful. Great way to get fresh air and vitamin D while enjoying some good company.

And, to tie it in with another subject we discussed here this summer, there's a lot of disc golfers who enjoy the Devil's lettuce while they play, as I witnessed firsthand less than a week ago. I don't believe it confers a competitive advantage.

So apparently, for the first time in forever, the fight was worth paying for tonight.

Kyle Beach, former Chicago Blackhawks player at center of investigation into sexual assault allegations, has 'feeling of relief and vindication' after findings

Chicago Blackhawks' Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane: Wish we did some different things to help Kyle Beach in 2010

Kane appears to get it more than Toews.

"To me, Stan and Al, make any argument you want, they're not directly complicit in the activities that happened," Toews said. "Regardless of mistakes that may have been made, for someone like Stan, who has done so much for the Blackhawks -- and Al as well -- to lose everything they care about and their livelihoods as well... I don't understand how that makes it go away, to just delete them from existence and (say), 'That's it, we'll never hear from them again.'"

Also, way to go Florida for letting Joel Quenneville coach last night.

Surprised this was here and not in the NHL thread.

I didn't even see that thread, TBH.
