[News] Post a D&D Picture

Previous incarnations of Cleveland/P&C/D&D have had an image thread, to handle political cartoons and other image-based stuff that doesn't belong in the general post-a-picture threads.

If any of them spawn an extended discussion, please spawn it off into its own thread. Replies to non-picture replies should take the form of a link pointing to a post on a different discussion thread.

And I shouldn't have to say it, but the images still need to abide by the rules.

s/not all/too many/g has not yet led me wrong.

OMG...

At this point, I gotta wonder how many tinfoil-sporting folk have legit been radicalized by The Onion.

So ignoring the obvious point being made there about the sun....

Evolution does NOT claim over time things become more complex. Whoever wrote that has no idea what evolution is.

And "entropy", as used in thermodynamics, means "different places are different temperatures". That's it. The 2nd law of thermodynamics has nothing to do with complexity or disorder. It's thermodynamics, it's used to model exchanges of energy, work and heat.

It's sourced from a creationist and made its way onto "Fundies Say The Darndest Things" maybe 15 years ago. As always, Poe's Law applies and it might have been a joke. But misunderstanding the 2nd Law in support of creationism is an ancient tradition.

Idiots were making the 2nd Law argument when I was in high school in the late '90s.

Little known fact: you know how some password managers will tell you that a password has "47 bits of entropy" or whatever? Since entropy increases over time, this means that passwords become more secure the longer you use them.

It was a feature of Usenet alt.religion arguments.

And I remember it showing up in the old P&C forum.

The point has been made many times, but this is the most perfect incarnation:

And at this rate, they will, one way or another.

Many firefighters are also refusing to comply. In Spokane, Washington, 50 firefighters risk being fired later this month if they don't get the shot. Among them is Tim Archer, who said he has not been vaccinated because "it's really in conflict with my conscience."

I honestly don't understand.

Again, this pandemic is costing us public servants who don't believe in public safety.

If they NYPD's there who's going to kettle, pepper spray, beat, and arrest them?

You are not a public servant if you can't lift a finger for public safety.

I volunteer as tribute!

American exceptionalism at its most basic level. We're not the ones who are special, the ones who have the equipment and knowledge and power to solve the problems if we publicly acknowledge that we received help.

It's just such a dumb and toxic thing. And it can be traced back to the root of so many of our social problems.

I can't believe how freely it was taught to me when I was in elementary school, and how easily apparent it has become to me that it was such an absolute lie.

Also suddenly some GOP care about gun safety at all. Just so they can condemn Baldwin I guess, since he makes fun of Dear Leader?

On the one hand, most of the folks I know who are into guns, on both sides of the aisle, are very serious about gun safety.

On the other hand, I wouldn't be surprised if there's a growing number of people who think "gun safety is about controlling the gun, which is gun control, which is bad."

Yeah considering how many states are doing open carry, some without permit, and no laws on gun safes or securing ammunition... Or just how many f*cking children find loaded weapons and accidentally kill themselves or their siblings every year with no repercussions for the irresponsible gun owner, I don't see a lot of people giving a sh*t.
