NFL 2021: The Week 7 thread

QB3 for the Panthers is a practice squad guy named James Morgan.

Two first names, definitely a thumbs up.

I mistakenly chose to start Darnold this week in dynasty on my bye week, instead of the guy with 2 sprained ankles playing the 49ers in a bomb cyclone. On the plus side, his performance this week showed me a couple of gems:

Darnold sacked by his own lineman: Can you call roughing the passer on the O-Line?

Possibly the most depressing trade ever?

It could be worse. You could be Kenny Young, who just got traded along with a 202*4* 7th in order to receive a 202*4* 6th.

No. 70 is Brady Christensen, Carolina's third-round draft pick this year. He was a LT at BYU but the conventional wisdom is that his T Rex arms better suited him to play guard or maybe RT. He started one game this year at RT (when Carolina moved Taylor Moton to LT because Cam Irving was out). Carolina spent the whole game running to the left side.

Panther Fan has been screaming for Christensen to play LT because (a) Moton is a really good RT and (b) Christensen can't be any worse than Irving. Guess what: He is!

Christensen is also the 16th RT for the Panthers since Jordan Gross retired after the 2013 season.

Hey, it's not all bad news, Enix; per FO, Robby Anderson is the worst WR in the NFL!

Wait . . . that's bad, too. Never mind.

To amass -143 DYAR in less than half a season is beyond comprehension. That's more negative DYAR than anyone had in 16 games in either 2018 or 2019, and only Cincinnati's A.J. Green was worse than that in 2020. It puts Anderson on a 17-game pace for -348 DYAR, which would obliterate the record of -294 set by Miami's Chris Chambers in 2006. Anderson's DVOA of -51.6% would also be the worst in the last 30 years. Only one qualifying wideout has ever finished worse in that category: Tony Jones of the 1991 Houston Oilers, whose DVOA was -59.3%.

Anderson does not have any fumbles this year; his struggles have come in catching the ball (36.7% catch rate) and gaining meaningful yardage. Five his 18 catches have qualified as failed receptions, while only nine have gained first downs, a tiny total for a wideout with seven starts. For comparison's sake, Green Bay's Davante Adams had 10 catches for first downs in one game against San Francisco in Week 3. Anderson has especially struggled on third/fourth downs, catching four of 15 passes for 43 yards with only three conversions.

Anderson's teammate Terrace Marshall, a second-round rookie out of LSU, has -43 DYAR, which also puts him in the bottom 10 wide receivers. Running back Chuba Hubbard (-18 receiving DYAR) and tight end Dan Arnold (-21 before being traded to Jacksonville) are near the bottom of the rankings at their positions as well.

Seems like simply being a Panther is a DYAR disease.

Arnold has managed to stop sliding downward, and inched up to -19 since joining the Jags. Maybe by the end of the year, he can be rehabilitated up to replacement level.

I prefer to see it as the Panthers making history.

What's that bear doing?! HE'S CATCHING THE FOOTBALLS THROWN TO HIM

I STG I'm watching the Panthers only for the LOLs. They are a supremely funny team.

Robby Anderson with Teddy Bridgewater: 69.9% catch rate, 68.5 yards/g, 8.1 yards/target

Robby Anderson with HEY DARNOLD: 36.7% catch rate, 29.1 yards/g, 4.2 yards/target

Just saying.

I know this comment will get at least 1 Like because it's praising Bridgewater. Thanks Stele.

Is this just this year or does it include time with the Jets?

Those numbers are just this year.

His 2019 with Darnold: 54.2% catch rate, 48.7 yards/g, 8.1 yards/target.

Better than with Panther Darnold, still well behind with Teddy.

And another like for that reply.

So, where will Watson end up in a week? It seems like the open secret is that Panthers and the Dolphins are bidding against one another, with possibly a third or fourth team in the mix?

What organization wants to says that they care less about women and sexual assault than the Texans?

*coughs in Buccaneers*

Saints already got Jameis, so they're covered.

Dan Snyder: "Damn it, I really really want to, but everybody's watching!"

The Chicago Blackhawks.

Hockey's WFT.

Joe Barry covid (shrug)
Allen Lazard covid reserve. Apparently not vaccinated (wtf).
Davante Adams covid reserve (vaccinated slim margin could play)

So... Looks like Cards will stay undefeated.

Ugh. Of course this happens the week they play Thursday.

Reportedly Deshaun Watson has waived his no-trade clause, but only for a trade to the Dolphins, so far.

It sounds like the Panthers may be on the outside looking in.

So the NFL's doing its damndest to keep the WFT report secret despite calls so far from employees and the union, and now Mark Davis, heir to league's biggest sh*t stirrer in its history.

Spoiler:

Lamar needs to protect his ass.

I wish Ed was doing something other than working with Crown Royal. Get your ass on TV, Ed. Start a youtube channel, Ed.

Bwahahaha, Mark Davis knows that isn't gonna happen and is trying to look good to fans.

Matt Rhule feels "very good" about HEY DARNOLD, who is back to taking first-team reps after PJ Walker had the same number of sacks taken as complete passes in his relief work last week.

That's code for "Darnold is going to be a healthy scratch on Sunday and we're starting practice squad QB James Morgan." I wouldn't trust Matt Rhule to accurately tell me the day of the week.

Also: I wonder if this the same Matt Rhule who's maybe "not… all the way in on the NFL moving forward"?

College football guy at Fox Sports is trying to link Rhule to the job at Penn State, which might or might not be open depending on if the current HC gets hired away by USC or LSU.

Who lands back in the NCAA first: Rhule or Meyer?

My vote is Rhule because I'm not that lucky.
