This and the money hole are at the very top of my list of favorite things they've ever done.

God, how magnificent would it be if we could get this in the US:

Also, I know those connectors on the top of the truck are huge and ugly, but like, surely there's some way we could do this for cars too? And in the process completely eliminate the people who nay-say electric cars because they require long recharges on long road trips that you might take once a year. Because then you just drive hooked up for like an hour until you hit full. Can't do that with a gas car.

Maybe something like the 3rd rail used by some subway systems? Obviously not a good idea around town where you might get pedestrians crossing but would work for highways and interstates. Or maybe something like inductive charging. I kind of wonder if something as simple as fixed magnets embedded in the road surface could be used to replace the rotating magnetic field generated by the electromagnet inside of an induction charger.

This is basically the only reason I don't see myself buying a purely electric car anytime soon. The need to stop for an hour every 3 or 4 hours of travel to charge would severely limit our road trips. And 8 hour drive might take 10-11 hours in an electric car. We can count on finding a gas station just about anywhere we go, but looking at the Telsa Supercharger map I can see spots we have visited where we would be 75-100 miles from the nearest Supercharger. I know they are not the only solution to charging, but if they don't have a location in BFE, OK there is a good chance nobody else does either.

Midwest Tornado season would be hell on a system like that.

What drives me nuts is...

We have a non-Tesla standard for high-speed chargers. We have electricity everywhere. And battery chargers are not new technology. Getting electric charging infrastructure built should be as simple as making the charger, getting it to the location, and installing it. There are basically no environmental concerns. No need to accommodate large delivery trucks (fuel tankers). No need to have large storage tanks on site.

All you need is an electricity supply, and some parking spaces. Why aren't the Big 3 making deals with Walmart, Target, Costco, grocery stores, every mall, every fast food joint, every drug store, etc. to take up a few parking spaces, especially in places like the big box stores and malls where you basically NEVER see a full parking lot, to just start pumping out chargers? If you ask people what their biggest concerns with electric cars are, the top two are the range, and "Where do I charge when not at home?"

It should be DEAD simple to solve the latter question.

I can post videos, but I can't promise to entertain you.
