NFL 2021: The Week 7 thread

So what did Carolina do?

I mean, you can't blame Carolina for going off-script and abandoning the run, when they fell so far behind early on, giving up... *checks notes*... 12 points in the first 3 quarters.

Carolina has gone from pretty good

Only Carolina fans thought this.

Eh, not really. After three weeks, the Panthers were between 9th and 16th in the various power rankings.

Sure, "pretty good" might be some mild rounding up. But note that I didn't say great or even an unqualified good.

I will admit to getting caught up in the possibility that Carolina might run the Eagles-Vikings-Giants-Falcons table. That take is looking not pretty good.

Now that's what a Shanahan offense is supposed to look like.

Oh but look, Joey Slye missed XP!

For context, remember that Joey Slye isn't good enough to the dumpster fire that's the Carolina Panthers.

Neither is Graham Gano, for that matter.

Edit: And then former Panther Josh Norman punched out the ball. Who knows what anything means in the NFL.

Power rankings might be fun, but they're as dumb as preseason predictions. PFF and FO at least back theirs up with data, but the huge caveat with FO is that their strength of schedule isn't in play for the first six weeks.

So, the Panthers were top in DVOA for the first time EVER, but only because of the handicap that was in play.

The Panthers beat weak teams by not a lot of points. They were pyrite, feasting on rookie QB with bad line (Jets), team without a coaching staff (NO), and a high school football team (Houston). If they deserved top of the power ranking they should've blown them out even more, like the Bucs did to the Bears today.

Why are people bringing babies outside in this weather?

Hindsight is 20-20, QED.

Slye hits the 56 yard field goal. Pretty much exactly what Enix said to expect.

Ah that's the Carson Wentz I expected to see.

If this was Madden and my team had missed this many INTs, I'd have turned the sliders up.

Seriously. Wentz out there playing dodgeball. Hang onto some of these, Niners!

The sliders are already on max for Santa Clara weather.

My cousin always reminds me, whenever you hear people bragging about California weather, they mean Southern California. NorCal weather is, quote, "Like nature's been doing whippets."

I was convinced in August that NorCal was doomed to turn into Arrakis. Today it suddenly reversed course and turned into Caladan. Also, I wouldn't have minded the weather so much if it stayed outside instead of coming inside through a hole in the roof.

The Central valley is CA's crap weather. 100 degrees all summer, with some of the nation's worst air quality.

We have gotten several wonderful prime-time games this year.

This is not one of those.

Heys guys it might be raining during the game. Also Wentz is the best worst QB ever. As terrible as the Eagles will be for a long time at least that jackass is gone.

If 49ers pass interference on underthrown Wentz balls was a fantasy player, its owners would all be winning this week.

I was just going to comment that the Niners DB’s are bailing Wentz out play after play with dropped ints and terrible PI on sh*tty thrown balls.

Collinsworth never sees PI on the WR. Maybe just a bit biased

They're losing to a dome team during a storm that ranks 4 out of 5 on the local ABC affiliate's storm intensity scale.

Supposedly the Panthers are interested in trading for Watson.

Next Tuesday is the trade deadline.

The Panthers have been interested in Watson since before they got Darnold. The complicating factor was (and still might be) whether Watson might waive his no-trade clause and go to Charlotte instead of Miami and whether Charlotte has enough draft picks and/or players to make a deal.

The best part about a Watson-to-Carolina deal is that Watson would come pre-ruined*. We wouldn't have to wait around for Matt Rhule and Joe Brady to wreck another QB.

(* in a moral, ethical and potentially criminal sense)

Can't get blamed for ruining a QB if he's incarcerated. 4D chess.

Uh oh, Jalen Hurts no longer has the Flacco Firewall keeping him safe from Minshew Mania.

This is hilarious. Since the draft there's been endless talk and questions to the coaches about not having a veteran presence to mentor Zachy boy. And, you know, if your 160 lbs QB is likely to be killed at some point.

Possibly the most depressing trade ever?

Bortles was there for the taking, no trade compensation needed.
