Far Cry 6 - Catch all (Can you whistle?)

How does it run on PS5 AcidCat?

No complaints, steady 60fps, though I've yet to get into any huge firefights/big explosion activity yet.

I picked it up on Series x. I have too many things to play and bought too many games lately, but Far Cry is some of my favorite comfort food gaming so I bit. I played until I completed the starter island, so maybe 4-5 hours.

It seems like a big focus is on gear. There are dozens of guns to unlock, including special named guns that have special abilities, and gear slots for head, legs, chest, feet, and wrists. The guns also can be moded with different scopes, ammo types, muzzles, and trinkets. There is a mechanic where you save a hostage and they give you the location of stashes. So far each stash has been a piece of gear and a few crafting materials. Its nice that you can switch out guns at anytime. So out in the field I can access any of the dozens of guns I have acquired. You can't mod them without a work bench though. I'm hoping this search for gear and modding is why the guns I had access to early on have been underwhelming. They have been fine, but nothing great.

The setting and story are way better than FC5. I like the main character and some of the side characters. The story has been pretty generic Latin American dictator vs the rebels stuff. I did just get the part where they introduced more baddies in the form of lieutenants that run different parts of the map, so hopefully they add some character.

Overall I'm happy with it so far. I hope the gun fighting gets better as I get more gear. It's a very pretty game. If you never got into a Far Cry game before, this doesn't change the formula much, so I doubt this would pull you in. But if you like Far Cry games this is solid.

It seems like they really want the pets to be more integral to the experience and that annoys me as a primarily stealth player. If you accidentally press the button assigned to the pet commands it will summon one even if you don’t have a pet active and you have to go back into the menus to get rid of it again.
Otherwise I’m enjoying it.

After more time playing tonight, yes this is definitely a better experience than fc5 all around. I am out here in the jungle chillin with Guapo and its all good.

I've played some more and am still liking the game. I don't want to blaspheme, but I do sense some Far Cry 2 dna here. With the focus on ammo types and enemy weaknesses it takes some planning and sometimes you can do all the planning you need and things still go to sh*t in a way you can't prevent. Especially if you don't have access to the right equipment. Air support is common and I don't have a reliable way to take down helicopters yet. The game is fine to let you get into a situation like that where you are probably screwed. I can see that being frustrating for some and it is probably a reason some people have said this Far Cry seems harder, but I like it. It forces improvisation. It's brings that sim element from FC2.

There is an option to turn on an outline for both collectables and enemies and I found it's very useful. Also, for some reason your throwables are add ons for your supremo backpack. I had the EMP supremo and I only had emp grenades and baseballs as throwables, but once I went to modify at the work bench I found I could get health syringes, sticky grenades, mines, and all kids of stuff.

Chorizo is the best side kick in any Far Cry game and one of the best in any game period.

It’s good to hear the game being compared to FC2. Visually it was giving me that feeling.

I looked at a very good comparison video to see if the PS4 version was decent (I often can’t tell the difference on these kinds of videos or not enough to care, anyway) but it did look washed out and significantly less detailed. Another game to go on the ‘Play on PS5’ list.

Comparisons to FC 2 .... willpower fading ....

To be clear, there are a few times I’ve got a fc2 vibe, but I wouldn’t make a direct comparison. That being said, this is the most fun I’ve had with a far cry probably since fc3. With these Ubisoft open world games, I think it really comes down to what tweaks to
the formula you click with. Like Assassins Creed Odyssey is my favorite AC game because it just clicked. While I enjoyed Origins and Valhalla, the things that didn’t click became an annoyance that made me bounce off before completion. In FC6 The things like the loot system, the weapon mod system, the infiltration missions, the gunplay, have all clicked for me. Dani is my favorite Far Cry protagonist and the voice acting for the female Dani is fantastic. (Haven’t played the male version). The side characters which are usually annoying and forgettable in a far cry game are more interesting. I’ve met like 8 different people that are quest givers and have enjoyed them all.

Another tip I don’t think the game tells you. There are places where you can summon cars. When you get in a new car, it will tell you you need to bring it to one of these stations to add it to your garage. But actually, so long as it is a military vehicle, you can just scan the car with your phone and it will add it to your garage

This is very true. In the past a lot of these characters have been either entirely forgettable or downright obnoxious. So far this is a huge improvement over past Far Crys.

Anyway I'm just starting to dig into the main island with the Montero family, and damn this game really is huge and packed with systems and things to do. I love it, there's like, months worth of content here, I'm in no hurry.

Also, a couple tips of my own:

- If you're using a controller, try changing Sprint Type to Stick Incline, you won't have to click the stick to sprint, you will naturally just by pushing forward all the way, I've found this a much more intuitive way to move around.

- Unlocking a gun attachment will open that attachment up for use for all weapons of that category, so you don't need to hoard too much gunpowder, feel free to spend on the attachments you like.

I'm working on Far Cry 2 and am LOVING it, so I'm glad to hear 6 has some similarities. We're gonna start co-oping it on Monday.

Where does Far Cry 4 fit in the comparison scheme? I’m about 20 hours in and stalled out. Wondering whether to go back and wait for 6 to go on sale.

I remember liking that one much more than 5, but not as much as 3. Primal is the Wild Card. I don't recall stalling out on 4, but totally get that. 5 was the one that I was just ready for it to wrap up as soon as possible.

3 was my first and favorite at the time.
4, at the time, was more of the same too soon as is often the case with Assassin’s Creed for me . Played 5 several months ago and liked it a lot, on part, because my expectations were so low. I liked the size of the map, the characters you could assign to your dpad and the flight options. Then I played New Dawn which I thought was OK after 5. Went back to Far Cry 4 which seemed a lot denser than 5.
A long and winding journey.

Meh, not counting the first game because I barely remember it, FC4 is easily my least favorite of the series.

Why is that?

Didn't care for the villain, and for some reason, I just really didn't like the game environment, in terms of both structure and aesthetics it was a huge 'meh'

And maybe some of this too. It didn't seem different at all from 3 in basic ways, and was a huge downgrade from tropical island to generic mountain region IMO.

I had some store credit, so I picked it up and quickly lost a few hours to it this afternoon. I agree that the quest givers have been good.

I tired switching the audio to Spanish, but the lip sync was off enough to bother me.

Chichárron! Chichárron! Chichárron will make you pay for not going paperless!

Selling my PS5 gold edition in trading post for anyone who wants this game. Should have followed my gut and got this for PC. Damnit.

Too much hassle for my situation. In a rental and have the PS5 in the bedroom. So no.

I had no idea. That's great! Of course, now I'll have to decide which games to play controller vs m&k.

Once I get one of these beauties, that is!

Quick note for those on PC with beefy graphics cards, there's a HD texture pack in the DLC section of the launcher that's not installed be default. Install guide here.

Also a question - the wingsuit doesn't feel like it's providing much lift for me. Barely any difference from just falling, though maybe a bit more directional control. Is that what everyone else is seeing? I kinda expected it to work like the wingsuit in Just Cause...

Edit: Nevermind, just figured out that I need to "pull up" on the wingsuit using the keyboard, not the mouse.

Far Cry 4 is my least favorite of the numbered Far Cries (I haven't played Primal, and I bailed on Blood Dragon after a couple of hours). I stalled out on both FC4 and FC5 after 15ish hours, which I guess still represents pretty good bang for the buck.

Far Cry 2 is one of my all time faves.

I liked FC4 a lot. Zipping around in a gyro-copter in The Himalayas was great. Plus elephants! Along with FC3, the only two I've finished.

I bounced off Blood Dragon hard and neither FC5 or it's followup scratched an itch.

The gyro-copter did definitely rule.

Just found what looks a gyro-copter in 6, haven't flown it yet!
