Something other than Xbox platforms, you mean?

Yes. At least Microsoft has been good with backward compatibility.

I have the discs but no (working) Xbox :(.

Lost Odyssey was one of the main reasons I bought a Xbox 360.

The main reason was to play a bunch of cool CAVE bullet hells games, but Lost Odyssey looks fascinating. I still need to actually dig into it.

Congratulations to bobbywatson, our first Ys VIII finisher! I had said earlier that our song theme this month would be "normal" battle music, and why not start the celebration with a game that we all wish we could play on other platforms?

First game I'm going to (re) play once I finally get my hands on a Series X

And I'm the second Ys VIII finisher, with Sundown close at my heels! I'll share with you all some of my favorite regular battle music, from FF X:

Sundown slides in at number 3! In honor of his finish, I present you with a remix of a classic battle track that's sure to get you jazzed:

For comparison, see Final Fantasy V's battle music:

And congratulations to Malkroth, our fourth finisher!

I'm stretching the category a bit here, because this plays while exploring each battle map, not (technically) during the battle cutaways. But for Ogre Battle, I think that counts:

Oh dang, thank you, I love the Ogre Battle games! I really wish they would make them available on Switch. I think Ogre Battle 64 was available on either the Wii or Wii U VC, but I really don't want to have to hook those systems back up for that.

FINISHED IT!!!

I attempted to have several saves to get all the villages.. but i just deciced to finish it

My VERY 1ST Ys game.....
It was OK... not stellar for me but ok.

Satisfied with the ending.

I remember back in teh the 90s. I saw Ys on a Gamepro magazine...always wanted to play one ever since

It's time for the Black Friday sales, so games are going down in price. Of note to the club is that frequent contender Xenoblade Chronicles is on sale for $27.

If you want it and don't have it, it's probably not going to get much cheaper.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses is also $27, which is an all time low.

There are probably others as well that I'm not thinking of that are out there.

Congratulations to Darkhaund, our fifth finisher! Your battle music is another banger from Falcom Sound Team:

You're welcome! I was such a big fan of the original Ogre Battle (never finished 64). Switch would be such a perfect platform to replay it, or Ogre Battle 64.

Thanks for the song.... remiends me of the 1st Trials of Cold steel game I played. ahh the memories..

With Christmas (and Christmas sales) coming up in a couple weeks, and the Ys thread being (mostly) silent for a couple weeks, should we start thinking/planning for next quarter's nominations?

After this Ys game (my 1st to finish) i do want to play others.. but yets... we need more games and nominations

I knew I couldn't be the only person who was ready to start thinking about 2022! Let's do it.

EDIT: I backed out of this thread to find the main one, and ... whoops, we're already in the main thread. My brain is Swiss cheese. Nomination / voting schedule incoming!

It's time. 2020 was a dumpster fire, 2021 has been sometimes better, sometimes worse, but 2022? We can start the near year off right by grinding out some levels!

Nominations: Open NOW; close Saturday, Dec. 18. 9 a.m. EDT (GMT -4)**
Pick 5 (if necessary): Open Sunday, Dec. 18, 9 a.m. EDT; close Wednesday, Dec. 21, 9 a.m. EDT
Ranked Choice: Open Wednesday, Dec. 21, 9 a.m. EDT; close Dec, 24; 9 a.m. EDT
Winner announced: shortly thereafter. Merry Christmas!

**Why so long? It's going to be a very, very busy week at work for me, and I'm probably not going to do a good job of keeping up with this until the weekend.

For the newbies, or anyone needing a reminder, here's our process:

  • The game must be at least 1 year old. Remasters (but not remakes) that are less than a year old are fine. The test is basically "could I play the old game, alongside someone playing the new game, and share a common experience?"
  • Anyone can nominate one game, and second any number of games. Any game that's nominated and seconded moves on to the next round.
  • The "Pick 5" round is designed to winnow down the choices to credible contenders that most members of the club will play. In the past, where we've had a field of 10+ games, a bunch of games would get 1 or 2 first-place votes, which made selections cumbersome.
  • I reserve the right to modify "Pick 5" to "Pick 4" or "Pick 6" depending on how many games are nominated and how many members have voted.
  • Likewise, if the number of games nominated makes clear that we don't need a "Pick" round, we'll skip it.
  • Ranked-choice voting is designed to make sure we have broad consensus about the game we end up playing. Rank the games in the order you'd like to play them, and we'll knock one out until we arrive at one with a majority.

Game on!

I'll second it.

Still considering what I'm going to nominate. I've narrowed it down to two options.

I'm also down to options, one old and one new. Going to sit on it for a little bit.

Lost Odyssey needs to be played.. it is a damn jewel of a game

Agreed, and its unfortunate that it's an Xbox exclusive. At least it's still readily available thanks to backwards compatibility.

Ah yes, from that time Microsoft forgot they owned the PC market as well. Being a 360 exclusive means I will never get to play it. I will have to mull over my nomination a bit.

Yeah, much as I'd love to play it, I don't think there's any chance Lost Odyssey ever gets picked for the club unless we have a majority of people here who also own Xboxes. I doubt that's the case, though I could be wrong.

Ahhhh I see... very good point.
I have to admit that the xbox is my least favorite console

I have decided: I'll re-nominate Phantom Brave (PS2, Wii, PSP, PC, Switch).

Seconded! Phantom Brave was a strong, surprise contender last time around.

It's been at least a year, so I nominate Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition. I got about halfway through that game, and I'd like to finish it.
