NFL 2021: The Week 5 thread

Lamar is good at football.

I thought Tony Dungy and Tirico told us last night it was time to let things just go away and that Gruden was a Good Guy?

Did Drew Brees say anything or did he just smile and nod and then was forced to stretch for close to an hour at halftime?

37/43 for 442 and 4TD's. Passer Rating of 140.2.
Not bad for a running back.

And I still have a hater trying to tell me that Lamar is trash.

That's my (Mom's) quarterback.*

* = I believe I mentioned my younger sister runs her own all woman fantasy football league that she invited my mother to participate in, right?

f*ck I've got to rewatch this whole game now.

Lamar Jackson is the first player in NFL history with 400 passing yards and 85% completion percentage in a game.

Jackson accounted for 499 of the Ravens' 523 yards of offense Monday night.

There were at least 2 drops as well so his completion % should have been higher.

Sending Tuck out for the OT flip after the Colts kicking woes was a baller piece of intimidation.

I go away for a weekend and all of a sudden I lose my first coach fired bet to Jon "Yes, I am really that racist" Gruden.

Edit: Just read the email. Jonny G really did have his whole ass out.

So I didn't stay up to watch the second half of the game, in part because I was tired of the Ravens beating themselves, but mostly because the Ravens' defense was awful. Calais Campbell with the back to back plays to save the game. Oweh being the only pass rusher the team has right now, and thank gawd for him. Still, absolutely terrible defense from the Ravens. The LBs are basically terrible. I feel like they're missing a veteran leader there. Anthony Averett was continually picked on in the passing game. Tavon Young also. Anyone got a vet CB they want to trade away?

Lamar absolutely carved up the sh*t prevent defense the Colts employed with 472 hours left on the clock. They seemed to be running the same sh*tty D in OT. Or maybe Lamar was simply on point by then. So good to see him continue to bounce back from mental mistakes and play with heart. The frustration never got to him like it has in years past. Bye bye BS crap about the Ravens being unable to play from behind.

Not pretty sure yall heard the news, but kicking had its worst week in a long time this past weekend. 13 botched extra points and 12 missed FGs. Most since Week 11, 1987. Lots of 2 point tries coming up this next week, as well they should.

Surprisingly, moving the extra point line back made it into something more than a bathroom break.

Makes me feel a whole lot better about Mason Crosby that's for sure.

In his defense LaFleur already alluded to 'operational' problems to help explain it's less a Crosby issue and maybe a snapping issue.

Packers ST has been anxiety inducing since... Desmond Howard. Crosby has been great then there's hiccups like this + questionable punting + inability tackle on returns.

Nothing like watching your team grind out a go ahead touch down to then give up ~40-50 yards on the kickoff.

Clearly he's not a quarterback.

Spoiler:

He's a football team.

He really is. Lamar accounts for more offensive yards than half the leagues teams.

He did that in the ACC too, his Heisman year, and the year after, when he had even more yards but the team record wasn't as good so he didn't win back to back.

But you know, not the SEC, he'll never do that in the NFL, just a fluke... idiot "analysts"

If a TEAM was 5th in passing and 8th in rushing and had a decent defense, you would assume they were a playoff contender.

Lamar Jackson does that on his own.

His defense is indeed outstanding.

Cole Beasley deleted his Twitter account. Lol.

Twitter has been snickering at a call Al Michaels made during the game:

"A little sidearm shot to Cole Beasley ... who's been silent tonight."

Good! One step closer to bringing human discourse back to something resembling decent. Every person who turns off their Twitter account is one step closer to this goal.

Twitter is a cesspool. We should all be off it. Forever.

I was thinking the other day that it's been a long time since I've heard anyone refer to Twitter as "microblogging".

It wasn't worse than Anthony Averett or Patrick Queen's performance.

I think I saw that Gruden was using a private email account, but Allen was using his work account? Jesus, you freaking morons, if you're going to be horrible human beings . . . actually, keep doing it on work accounts where you have no expectation of privacy. Makes it easier to find you.

Just trying to imagine all the delicious things this is going to drag into the light when they really get into the culture of Snyder's little sh*tbox.

I just want to see some emails from the Shanahans telling off Snyder.

"Don't talk to me or my son ever again."

If this was an attempt by the NFL to get DeMaurice Smith votes, then they must really love him having that job with the NFLPA because they cracked open Pandora's Box to get it to happen.

I think Ryan Clark puts it the best,

One small correction to Ryan Clark's statement. Gruden did work under a black executive, general manager Reggie McKenzie, in 2018, Gruden's first year back in the NFL. McKenzie had been the Raiders GM since 2012, and was Mark Davis's first big hire.

Mark Davis wanted Gruden and McKenzie to work together: "My vision at that time was Jon Gruden to coach this football team, and Reggie McKenzie to bring in the talent."

What happened instead is that Gruden was given power over the roster, he sent McKenzie draft picks packing, criticized that drafting as justification for him to overhaul the roster... and McKenzie was fired at the end of the season.

Good news, Seahawks fans, because you might be getting in on BORTLESMANIA!

Jaguars: We'll take your trash offensive staff

Seahawks: We'll take your trash quarterback

McKenzie didn't exactly have the world's greatest draft record but its a bit better than Gruden:

Khalil Mack
Derek Carr
Amari Cooper

Also, he fired Hue Jackson.
