NFL 2021: The Week 5 thread

Trade Wilson to Houston for a bunch of picks, where he and Easterby can be that weird creepy brand of Christian together. (Move fast, before Kirk Cousins is available.)

Send those picks to Jacksonville for the #1 overall pick that Urban's well on his way to locking up.

Draft whatever QB you want in this year's class.

None of these are bad ideas!

He still throws the prettiest deep ball (...ever?) and he's got two amazing deep ball targets. I'll never get tired of watching those throws and if I can prioritize entertainment on the field over winning or drama, I'd be fine keeping him. He doesn't make me as happy as watching Marshawn smash for 5yds or Largent level Broncos or Kam Chancellor eat souls or Hasselbeck self-own at coin flips but that's ok.

I just don't see a title with this group anywhere on the horizon. Paul Allen's sister is CRAZY, the HC is nearing retirement, Ken Norton doesn't inspire confidence in the D, and the track record of teams that win Super Bowls with a QB at the top of the salary ranks is...0-X (seriously, in the last decade, have any of the top paid QBs led their team to a win?).

And championships aren't the only thing! I get a lot of enjoyment out of watching Bobby Wagner make tackles and Chris Carson do Marshawn-y things. I should embrace the moment more and not be so outcome focused. Sigh.

Brady was top 10 last year. And he's won the last 72 super bowls in a row.

Edit: And, really, let's be honest here. Since Brady does win a ring ever other year and a half he really mucks with the whole idea that teams who win don't have the most expensive QB in the league. He continually reneg his contracts to lower his cap number while guaranteeing a bit more of his pay. He f*cks the whole formula.

Yes, it's best to have a QB over performing his salary hit. That's most easily achieved by rookie contract QBs. Wilson, I would say, is delivering on his cap hit more than, say, Tannehill, Garopollo or Stafford (on Lions) ever did.

I'd much rather have Mahomes on a rookie contract than a vet on a vet contract. You can have more things break against you (ie. injuries) with a stacked roster and a rookie contract QB. But someone like Wilson is your QB it means if things do go bad he can help keep the ship from completely sinking more than other QBs. He's still very much in his prime and not, say, Ben.

Oh boy Joe Burrow.

That was a bad idea.

Jags bounce a field goal off the crossbar, but unlike with Justin Tucker, it doesn't bounce over and across.

Also unlike Justin Tucker, the kick was from 52 yards, not 66.

Jalen Hurts is 12/20 for 35 yards lmao what kind of insane offense is Sirianni running/calling

Fun fact: Jaguars have yet to make a field goal all season, lol.

Denver is really bad.

I hope that person makes a living off of that creative writing talent.

Some people may be better off not having kickers on their fantasy teams.

Detroit loses on a long FG, just to try something different.

Cincinnati and Green Bay, the last six drives; Missed Field Goal, Missed Field Goal, Missed Field Goal, Interception, Missed Field Goal, Missed Field Goal.

Sam Darnold appears to be Sam Darnold again.

lol. The GB vs. Cincy game makes me very happy the Ravens have Justin Tucker.

The Iggles really needed a vintage Darnold performance today.

You gotta really stink to lose to the Eagles.

Yep. Sigh.

The Panthers' schedule, meanwhile, is very much in their favor. Their next seven games are Eagles, Vikings, Giants, Falcons, Patriots, Cardinals and WFT. Realistically that's five wins, maybe six.

My Week 5 thread opener aged badly. Yikes.

Grats to the Eagles for hanging in there and making just enough good plays to win.

What the hell happened between Cousins and Zim? Was it all in good fun or is Cousins going extra Cousins and Zim was about to kill him?

Saquon Barkley's ankle just doubled in size on national TV.

And then there's Joe Burrows' throat.

And Danny Dimes was clearly concussed. I didn't think he was getting up. Then he did, and then he stumbled trying to walk back to the huddle. Ouch

The NY Giants are dropping like flies.

Jones is out, and that means The Ginger Giraffe is the king of New York, baby.

I am just now parking at the Chief's game. Should be a fun night!

Good ol Dallas, once a gain getting away with penalties.

I really wish someone would update this to his new team.

The Browns pushing Ekeler into their own end zone is one of the most bizarre things I've ever seen. The Chargers got too cute, though, and should have just taken a knee.

Browns forgot who their QB is. He's not the guy to take you down the field at the end of a game, sorry.

Maybe he'll pad his stats some more the rest of the year and get that contract extension, but I sure hope not.

At least it wasn't GB-CIN. What was that, 5 consecutive missed field goals before Crosby finally ended the game?

If Legion can root for half of the teams in the league, then I'm adopting the Chargers.

Maybe not their D ... /shudder. But Justin Herbert, my goodness.
