Haha sorry my mistake. I’d leave you a positive review on the marketplace you use if I could. Talk about going above and beyond!
Thanks!
The main reason I'm hesitating right now to list my copies of FFI (NES) and FFII/IV (SNES) is precisely because I no longer have an NES or an SNES and therefore can test them
The last time I successfully sold games was selling the 2 Lunar PS1 collector editions. I sold them for around 60% or so of retail which was fine with me for a fellow forum member. But, turned out, with the extreme weight of all the Working Designs knickknacks, the shipping from Japan->US left me with about $10. Glad they could find a home where they weren’t collecting dust though!
Hey everybody, do we have a thread for discussing arcades (home, in-person, etc), or is this that place?
Looking at the home arcade community on YouTube and it looks surprisingly inviting? A bit of a money pit and, like all enthusiast communities, an endless abyss of hardcoreness (mod your 1up cabinet!!!), but I might need to get the Street Fighter cabinet...

Many of us are approaching middle age so I'm sure I'm not the only one feeling the pull on my wallet by that dark robed specter named Nostalgia.
Absolutely this place.
I love that it includes a range of (I presume legally licensed) titles:
Street Fighter™ II: Championship Edition, Street Fighter™ II’ Hyper Fighting, Super Street Fighter™ II Turbo, Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo™, Darkstalkers™, Night Warriors: Darkstalkers' Revenge™, Darkstalkers 3™, Saturday Night Slam Masters™, Knights of the Round ™, Eco Fighters™, Capcom Sports Club™, and Muscle Bomber Duo™ are ALL packed inside this machine. Switch up to any included game at will with the easy to navigate on-screen menus.
Imagine if you could have bought something like this back in the day...

I have been using this thread to discuss my RetroPie machine and the arcade games I play on it.
GT: everything's licensed. Arcade1Up's business model is pure nostalgia, with official art on the cabs and lots and lots of 80's memories (Simpsons and TMNT 4-player editions). I started to think seriously about this when I saw a PacMan cab at Costco and thought..."This is a thing I can actually do?"
In terms of placement, I could fit one into the kids playroom which already has a futon and cheap, press board foosball table, with a little bit of moving things around. Some of the enthusiast folks have full rooms with 8-10 cabs (!!!) which is just nuts.
In an ideal world, I could get the rest of my half of the garage pared down and have space for one of these next to my workout space. But then the camping and Christmas stuff has to go somewhere else. First World Problem.
I would love to have an arcade cabinet but I don't really have anywhere to put one. I do run arcade games on the MiSTer from time to time, but getting the inputs setup for them is kind of annoying, especially pre-JAMMA stuff.
The classic standing cabinet is of course very popular, but it's not the only option.
Also popular is the bartop machine. It's a smaller screen with more cramped controls but much more portable. When not in use it can be put away. You can easily play while sitting.
Then there's the console form where the controls and the emulator are both built into a single unit without a screen. The console connects to a TV or monitor with a regular HDMI cable, making this super portable.
The pedestal build is basically the console form mounted on a fixed base. It still connects to a TV/monitor. It's not as portable but it's easier to make a 4 player controller.
Or your can build something completely custom, like I did. This was designed not just for portability but also comfort. Each player gets their own lap controller so it's perfectly suited to playing from a couch. It's portable enough that I've brought it on vacation with me (driving, not on a plane).
And of course you can run emulators on your PC! That's always an option. You can buy USB controllers if you don't want to build your own. If you're feeling adventurous, you can take that pre-made USB controller and install a Raspberry Pi in it to create a console.
Back when I was young and single, I was seriously considering spending a couple of hundred dollars on a DDR board to have my own DDR machine at home. In those days, I might well have found $600 for one of these cabinets rather compelling! Cool to still have the arcade legacy available.
So friends, someone on YouTube is trying to tell me I should play the Ace Combat series, since they said it's better than Jane's Fighters Anthology (which I find highly dubious). If I WERE to dive into Ace Combat, however, which should I go with first?

It's pretty much the same thing.
Waypoint ep 216: The 2019 Game Rush Is Here and We're Already Struggling to Keep Up
'Resident Evil 2' and 'Ace Combat 7' are here already, 'Kingdom Hearts III' is right around the corner, and another half dozen post-apocalyptic action games are knocking down the door. Where do we start?
I remember thinking the discussion was fun and it made me want to try out the series.

Man I played the sh*t out of that. In keeping with that vein, I just got this today:
Can't wait to stream it next week!
My fav:
AfterBurner in a hydraulic cockpit. Those were the days.

"Excuse me, have you seen this boy?"

Yeeeaaaahhh....Those games aren't even close to comparable. Ace Combat is arcade style jet combat (like planes carrying upwards of 100 missiles and an anime stlye story). Honestly if you want to try an Ace Combat and you have Gamepass, Project Wingman is the safe bet as it is basically a copy of the Ace Combat formula. Otherwise I'd just go with Ace Combat 7 since it's the most updated one and you'd be trying to track down a PS2 in order to play 4, which would be my next recommendation.
I do have Project Wingman and love it. I also do have a PS2 and a copy of AC4 so I'll just use that. Thank you!
This news is a little old, but I'm just hearing about it now. The Analogue Pocket, which was supposed to ship this month, has now been delayed until December. And that's just for the preorders.
It's understandable that with everything going on the system was delayed, but I'm really disappointed. I was hoping to have this with me when I travel to visit my parents for Christmas.
f*ck yes. One of my all-time favorites with the original artwork. I got choked up holding this one today.
Now I own physical copies of my favorite flight sims from that era: Megafortress, A-10, Tornado and TFX. Gonna eventually stream 'em all too.
Yeah but can they measure up to Ace Combat?
I just made it through qualifiers and received and accepted an invite to the brackets stage of the A Link to the Past Randomizer tournament of Speedgaming Live 2021, a speedrunning convention (that is, sadly, virtual-only again this year, but maybe next year it'll be in person).
I realize that all that probably looks like hot gibberish to the uninitiated, but it's a game that I play a lot of, with a vibrant speedrunning / racing community, and this is the first time I've ever made it past qualifiers of a major tournament. I'm excited!
Congratulations! Drop us a link to the stream when it's time.
That's amazing! I love checking on some of the randomizer games every once in a while, and also GDQ, of course.
Atari's reimagined games for their new VCS are also going to be available for other consoles and PC. Does this mean they consider the VCS a niche console, or they don't want to limit the market?
