Playstation 5 Catch-All

Sony has finally decided that I am not, in fact, a robot and let me purchase a PS5 today due to the technical issues I had a week ago.

At least they say they have my order. Might be another one of their pranks.

Yay finally!

Wouldn't it have been faster to just fail the Turing test and pretend you're a robot?

(Congrats, though, and be sure to "purchase" Astro-Bot all the free games available.)

I finally got one last week! A buddy snagged one from walmart.ca for me.

My son saved up money for his own PS5, and we were able to get a bundle this morning from GameStop. It apparently wasn't too bad if you were a Pro Member.

I hope they start becoming easier to hunt down in the UK.

I'm glad I picked up Kena, it is a super chill game, kind of a throwback to simpler times but in a good way, it gives me a vibe I haven't felt in a while.

RIP Pro Evolution Soccer....

Eurogamer - eFootball bizarre launch

The leaked Bluepoint acquisition is now confirmed. IGN also posted an interview indicating that they are indeed working on something original. It's not clear if that's their next project or if it will come after one more existing remake, but it has supposedly been in the cards for quite some time.

Regarding the recent God of War delay, Christopher Judge tweeted this:

In my feels right now. I need to be forthcoming. This has been approved by no one. To the beloved fandom, Ragnarok was delayed because of me. August 2019, I couldn’t walk. Had to have back surgery, both hips replaced, and, knee surgery. They waited for me too rehab…

That's not the reason I would have expected, but it's certainly a good one.

Bluepoint Games acquired by Sony

Inevitable news I suppose but shout-out to a fantastic developer who has knocked it out of the park with their last two remakes - Shadow Of The Colossus & Demons Souls - they are apparently working on original content next. Excited to see what they cook up, they've a rock solid foundation with their tech being at such a high level.

*Dyni beat me to it*

Looks like Best Buy bundles with extra controllers right now. Probably have a few minutes if you see this as they like to trickle the stock out over a half hour or so.

Thank you sir! I finally managed to get one! I have to pick it up in store next Thursday. Huzzah!

First game he installed was Nier: Automata.

That's my son.

Nice.

Oct Plus games out. Including MK X, which was already in the PS5 collection. So PS5 owners only get 2 games this month. Huh.

A bit of a weak month, I not into one on one fighters & Hell Let Loose seems like it's getting decent to good reviews. I do find it hard to care about military shooters unless they do something exceptional these days but it might be worth trying with a bunch of friends.

I’m hoping to play Hell Let Loose when I get a PS5 eventually. I do enjoy a good military shooter and it looks like it’ll be very atmospheric. I don’t care about the others. So glad Folks on PS4 can snag PS5 games via the Playstation app.

I did not know this. Dang. I shall grab all future PS5 Plus games now.

I think I missed the first couple until someone told me.

Yeah I was doing that with PS4 games until I finally got one back when.

I've seen Hell Let Loose on PC and it is amazing. Not my thing as I don't like realistic shooters, but definitely worth a try if you like that sort of thing.

As my first month, none of the three games appeal to me and I was a bit disappointed too.

I just got PS Plus so I could play Deathloop online (I did the entire single player with just AI Juliana, but I'm thinking of resetting my progress and replaying with multiplayer enabled).

I've been following Higgledy's posts on past, present and future releases for the PS5, and it's let me pondering what the experiences will be like for late-comers to the console. I can't see myself getting one until around Xmas.

First, there's going to be a pretty chunky backlog for those who have eschewed any PS4 versions.

Second, there are going to be several PS5 games with multiplayer components where the bulk of the player-base has long since moved on.

For example, by the time I get round to Deathloop are there going to be any player-Juliana's left? And if there are, will they all be super-well-equipped professional griefers, rather than fellow newbies? Will the same be true of the Demons Souls remaster?

I saw that Higgledy as taken a vow of abstinence on the PS4 version of the next Battlefield. Is that going to be a bear pit by the time Higgledy's wrestled a PS5 from the arms of a tearful, white-haired grandmother desperate to fulfil the wishes of her sick granddaughter?

In the past, I have consciously chosen not to be part of Day 1 for certain games. This is the first time that I've been desperate to participate, but been left outside... nose pressed up against the glass.

Also, I wonder what the impact is on sales, and therefore on publishers' interest in certain properties. Killzone: Shadow Fall was a PS4 launch game. But, by the time I had obtained my PS4, I had no interest in playing it. Since then, we've not seen another Killzone game.

That's not a great example, though. Instead of another Killzone game, Guerilla made Horizon: Zero Dawn, their most popular game ever and arguably the new mascot for the entire Playstation library.

I’m happy to let a lot of games pass and, in the process, gain the perspective of time when deciding if I’m really interested in them. I see that as a big plus rather than a negative.

Multiplayer wise it depends on the game. In general I don’t think time passing makes as much difference as we often feel it does. Two examples: with Deathloop, in the first weeks of release I heard people complaining about all the fully levelled up Juliannas they were facing. With the Battlefield series I came to Battlefield 4 three of four years after it’s initial release and still had the best time. I think, I know, there are games where the player base gets distilled down to a merciless hardcore, Uncharted’s multiplayer is one but that only happened in the last year or so before then it was still tons of fun.

As a side note, some of those grandmothers can be surprisingly hard to catch.

I'm not sure that's quite correct. According to Wikipedia (yes, I know...) development on Klllzone: Shadow Fall and Horizon: Zero Dawn overlapped.

Also, I wonder whether this is an apples and oranges comparison. There were 4 Killzone games on full-size consoles, plus one each on PSP and PS Vita. Thus far, there are only two Horizons - one still unreleased.

Best Buy in stock online. Go go go.

It looks like you need to be a TotalTech member ($200/year) to make that purchase. But maybe it will open up if none of them pull the trigger.

Yikes, sorry. Twitter didn't mention that.

Deathloop also has a friends only invasion option, so if enough of us have the game and are on each other's lists, could be fun if we see someone's playing, ha.

There's a school of thought for Julianna play where you mess with Colt more than griefing him or just using the most powerful gun and powers+trinkets. So hopefully that group wins out longterm!
