Random thing you love right now that doesn't deserve its own thread

The expression "living in someone's head rent free." Saw it again on Wonkette today and it makes me giggle every time. Dunno why.

This term is almost ubiquitous in football (soccer) fandom to be honest. It’s becoming a famous football cliche.

Picked up a Magic Mouse and Keyboard and they are both quite nice. The only "issue" now is this is what my desk looks like.

The back mouse and keyboard are for my gaming system under my desk. I just pop the space bar and switch inputs and I'm ready to game!

What size is that monitor? How far away do you have to sit?

It's only 28 inches.

Huh. It looks bigger in the picture.

(And that's Out of Context Theater for today, folks, try the salmon, it's curried!)

That’s what she said!

yeah. she said that too.

PaladinTom - what are those cable keepers that you have at the back on each side? I have been looking for a good one to use but haven't been happy with the options I've found.

I've been feeling under the weather, especially yesterday, with some kind of stomach bug. But my 4 and 6 year old daughters were super sweet, cuddling up and asking how I was doing, taking care of not being too rough in their play with me, and above all: for the first time in years I watched the Paris - Roubaix cycling race and my oldest sat under a blankie with me asking all kinds of questions.

All in all, a really nice family day even though I felt like sh*t (because I couldn't well...)

They're weighted cable holders I got from the Amazons:

Thanks, are you happy with them? Do they weigh enough to make it easy to pull the cable through to make it longer?

They work great for thinner cables like phone chargers.

For thicker cables though (like laptop chargers or my usb c dock cable all the way to the left in the photo) you have to snap them in. They’re heavy enough that they’ll stay put but if you tug the thicker cable it won’t glide out, it will yank the whole thing around.

They’re perfect for keeping things from dropping off the back of a desk though.

My PhD proposal was accepted! My project title is "Joining the hemifields, a characterisation of transcallosal connections in human early visual cortex.". I'm going further down the MRI rabbit hole with some cool new imaging techniques and I couldn't be more excited (or more scared).

I have a scholarship which pays my tuition fees, and I'm waiting to hear back about living expenses being partially funded. It's fairly contested as COVID ate into the scholarship funds with a bunch of student extensions.

Still! That's a problem for later. I GOT IN!

Congrats

You've made such a journey these last years A_Unicycle, I still remember you being super insecure about even starting your education again. You should be insanely proud of yourself, beaming like a f*cking star!

Thank you so much!

It's been quite a while since I've been a gamer with a "job", I still remember coming to this forum and venting about my sh*tty pawn broker position. How times have changed

I hope one day we get to change your name to Dr_Unicycle!

That's fantastic Unicycle! Congrats!! I hope you will share your paper with us regardless of the results, I would be fascinated to read it.

Joyful congratulations, A_Unicycle!

Congrats. And something one of my professors told me once that really helped put my dissertation into perspective. Your dissertation is not your life's work. It is the thing you have to do before you can do your life's work.

Very true ^

Congrats Unicycle!!

Congrats! To the Uni, Uni!

Dia de los Muertes

That’s from my humble back patio. Those little air ferns have grown much bigger than I’d ever expected them to.

Nice. We're gonna do some dia de los muertes stuff this year.

And be sure to watch Coco in all its glory!

Our cat Lilly likes to lay on her side, wrap her legs around my wrist, and lick my fingers and rub her chin and head against them. It's like she can't reach those parts and wants help bathing. She also likes to get her fur pet forwards and backwards, only the 2nd cat I've met that likes that.
