The Some Like It HOT TAKES thread

Poor ole Zeus. He tries so dang hard, but no love for Zeus.

What? Zeus got his plenty. I mean remember the lady he impregnated after appearing as a "shower of gold". Mmmmhmmm.

Don't kink-shame the Olympians, Veloxi.

I'm not shaming. I'm saying Zeus had no problems getting some.

Zeus is set to get #MeToo-ed any day now.

And rightfully so really. Damn.

Hot Take: Sushi sold any further than 100-150 miles inland or distant from a major body of water should just be skipped.

Heh, reminds me of this Sushi place I really enjoyed in Denver when I lived there like 20 years ago.

It was called Sushi Den and they had a really interesting setup. It was run by two brothers, one running the restaurant on-site and the other living in Japan. Brother #2 would go down to the fish market docks in Japan every morning and pick the "catch of the day". He would then freight it to Denver via FedEx air.

Due to time-zone trickery, when you sat down to your meal in Denver you were actually enjoying fresh sushi from Japan that was selected that same morning. Amazing.

General food quality was AAA and the menu prices were shockingly affordable to boot.

So even sushi from 5.5K miles away can still be good!

I hope people aren’t still under the impression that for good sushi, the fish is scooped out of the ocean and cut up right then. It needs a few days at least of refrigeration to reach the optimal level of decay to become most flavorful.

Russell Brand is just emo Joe Rogan.

RB is actually funny though. JoRo goes through the motions of doing comedy, but there’s not a funny bone in his body. [/dadjoke]

And smart.

Into the Spider-Verse is proof that a lot (not all, but a lot) of super hero movies would work best as animation. Eternals almost certainly would've, as would any attempts to do the absurdity that is New Gods.

Unfortunately, the prevailing mentality is still that cartoons are either Family Guy or Spongebob, even when we are what, 3, 4 generations of anime fans deep?

At some point, someone with a brain will see the success of Cowboy Bebop or Demon Hunter, and instead of thinking "We should make a live-action version of that with $250M of CGI," will think "Why don't we make our own animated product?"

There's a place in NYC that does something similar, I believe, and to be clear, the reviews are absolutely glowing. It's life-changing food. But as someone who does believe in climate change, there's a part of me that's like "Perhaps we shouldn't be flying fresh fish 6,700 miles just so you can have a $500 omakase?"

Gawd I hope so because I completely agree.

Bluey is the best and greatest show in the world. Even without kids I'd watch it but with kids it will remind me of their youth forever.

I love Bluey.

I pray I can be as good a dad as Bandit.

Bluey is set about 5 suburbs away from me! It truly is the best kids show and one of the only ones that I looked forward to watching with my boys when they were into it. It’s truly art imitating life except that Bandit consistently puts me to shame when it comes to being a good dad. It’s nice to have a role model though, even if he is a scruffy blue heeler

I can honestly say I am jealous, DC, that you live near a cartoon based fantasy dog house.

MAKE ANIMATED MOVIES

Follow-up: The gushing I'm hearing over that new League of Legends thing on Netflix makes it absolutely baffling that Overwatch never made an animated show, or any of several other properties, for that matter.

Like, how in the hell did we get a mediocre-at-best Warcraft live-action movie before we got an animated series?

My current hot take is that motorists should follow the law and make it clear they are going to follow the law. Things have gotten really bad in America lately.

I’m begging motorists to at least *consider* making it obvious they’re going to at least entertain the idea of following the law at a given intersection.

Currently at every single intersection I assume the motorist flying towards the stop is going to run the red light, fly through the stop sign or drive through the parking lot like it’s a race track. No one is getting anywhere faster if at every single intersection drivers like me have to come to a dead stop, because we can’t tell if you plan on following the law this time.

Yeah, I've been dusting off my third-world driving skills from 30 years ago: Mass + Acceleration = Right of Way

We have several new roundabouts/rotaries in my suburb. They're a great idea but they depend on the courtesy of your fellow drivers. Bad timing lately...

I can't bloody stand the Halo multiplayer announcer. He just sounds like he's trying too hard and it gives me second-hand embarrassment every time I hear him

"Double KILL"
"Triple KILL"
"unfricken-believable" etc.

I've enjoyed plenty of over-the-top announcers in deathmatch games but UGH something about Halo's announcer is too much for me.

Meanwhile in MMA we have to put up with this buffoonery….

Oh my god my wife hates Bruce Buffer so much.

The best movie released in 2021 is In The Heights

Anyone who disagrees is wrong.

The best movie released in 2021 was nothing at all.

Wrong!

This is Barb & Star Go To Vista Del Mar erasure.

Joking aside, I think In the Heights might be up there. So far I prefer both Dune and The Eternals.
