Genshin Impact Gacha-of-the-Wild All

Any thoughts on my current main team setup?

Ninngguang, Fischl, Xingqiu and Xiangling

That's a very solid exploration team for sure, except that you're missing healing. If you're good at dodging and okay with eating a lot of food (and/or teleporting to healing statues from time to time), that's going to be a team that's going to just destroy content as long as you've got enough energy recharge on Xingqiu and Xiangling to use their burst attacks often.

If you do want healing and have Bennett, you can swap him in for any of the other three to have a killer, well rounded team. He'll provide all the healing you'll ever need, a huge ATK buff, and solid energy generation (especially for Xiangling). If you don't have Bennett, Barbara would be okay (probably best to swap her in for Xingqiu, but she could also work with any other pairing of those two), especially if you give her the "Tales of Dragon Slayers" book as a weapon so she can provide an ATK buff too. If you have Diona, Jean, or Sayu, they're probably better choices than Barbara, but not nearly as ideal for that team comp as Bennett is. Qiqi, I dunno, she'd probably be fine too, but I'd use Diona or Jean instead of her for sure.

Due to the nature of how the geo element works, though, Ningguang is quite flexible in terms of what teams you can play her with -- it's one of the reasons she's such a solid pick for a main DPS. Drop in characters with strong deployable attacks (like the three you mentioned, or Beidou), make sure you're covering their energy needs, and you're off to the races. Bonus points if they have good elemental interactions, but even that's less necessary due to your main DPS being geo. Worth noting, folks do often run her with geo Traveller to get the buff from running two geo characters (even better if you've got Zhongli or Albedo), but just Ningguang plus three other elements is great too (especially if you can get the double pyro buff -- ie, Bennett puls Xiangling).

Ok, thanks for the info. I'm fairly certain I have Bennett. I'll try out swapping him for Xiangling to see how that works even though I do like Xiangling's powers. I'd swap for Xingqiu but I like having different elements in my team when exploring.

Question: I just got my second 5-star weapon from the regular banner and it was Lost Prayer to the Sacred Winds, and now I want to prioritize leveling up my C2 Ningguang so she can use it. Is it worth buying her C3 in the shop before the end of the month?

Oh man, so jealous. I'm still only at C4 for Ning because she hasn't been on many banners with other 5*s I've wanted to roll on. I think it's ALWAYS worth buying character constellations from the shop if you have the resources because there is no way to guarantee a 4* on banner, even when they're the rate up characters.

I'm crossing my fingers that they'll put Ning on an upcoming Albedo rerun so I can finally get her up to C6.

Ive been playing this for 3 weeks I think and still have no idea what yall are talking about most of the time! What is C2/C4 etc?

I'm still not quite 20. I've been exploring the marsh area between Monstadt and Leyue, got the geo power for my Traveler. With the last of my wishes/points I pulled a Rosaria and Fischl. I like Rosaria but I can't aim bows for crap so I only use them for puzzles and shooting barrels, so I'll stick with Amber for that instead of using Fischl. Still need a proper fire person to replace Amber

C2/C4 etc are constellations. When you get a copy of a character you already have it unlocks a constellation- up to 6 times. So C2 means the character has the 2nd unlocked. Some constellations are pretty big boosts to power, some are less so, but all are positive - although there's one word of caution for Bennett's 6th constellation- it can boost damage in some cases, but can completely ruin other team compositions- so it's usually advised not to unlock it if you ever happen to get it.

Fischl can be pretty powerful, but her power comes from Oz- the bird she puts out on the field and not her basic attacks.

Lies! Mostly...

Fischl is probably easiest to use as an off-field Electro assist, summoning Oz and then switching out. Many people build her that way.

But she also gets a physical damage bonus as she ascends through the level caps, so she can be a usable auto attack character. Mine is getting around 7~8k per hit against human enemies (who are weak against physical damage). Not bad given how quickly Fischl can throw out her attacks.

I think Xinyan would like this:

So how are people here feeling about the (lack of) Anniversary? I've been following the drama but I'm pretty detached from it. I'm still enjoying the game. Would I have liked some more free stuff? Sure. But I'm not feeling as put out as many people are.

I also think that they could've avoided all the drama (and not given us anything more than they currently are) if they had just given everyone Aloy on the anniversary date along with an email with 10 wishes and a couple goodies (instead of the 7 days of login event). Hey! Free 5-star and some wishes! Cool!

There is any number of things they could have done, but they choose none of them. Which is fine, Genshin is fairly generous anyhow and sees some impressive updates. Such a shame there's a very vocal part of the player-base that are a bunch of entitled crybabies.

They announced the 2.2 livestream for this Sunday, so keep an eye out for primogem codes that day.

The Japanese Genshin Twitter account recently reached 1.5 million followers, so they released a special illustration. They also have a much better behaved fan-base and/or excellent moderators.

Edit, they took the original tweet down and reposted it just a little while ago. Can you spot the difference?

Yeah, it's a big "meh" from me.

From my limited understanding, what they're giving away is relatively paltry compared to what is normal/expected of gacha games -- even (perhaps especially?) Mihoyo's other major game currently running (Honkai Impact). But it's also in keeping with how relatively reserved the game has been with respect to standard gacha style giveaways throughout this year, other than perhaps at launch -- and as Mantid says, the game is very "generous" with respect to basic the scope and breadth of what kind of game it is and how it updates. That is, most gacha games aren't delivering AA (AAA?) quality open world gameplay to begin with and then adding as much and as varied of content through free patch updates.

That said, they still are operating on the same abusive/exploitative business model explicitly designed to effectively and consistently extract far more money from customers in far less savory ways that any other type of game, and perhaps part of what comes with choosing that business model is having those customers feel far more entitled to certain kinds of perks and giveaways that come alongside that business model everywhere else it's been used. I don't think that excuses anything, but I do think it's relevant context that many of us who don't regularly interact with gacha games and their communities might be missing when staring in bafflement at the whole mess.

Really, to me it's kind of an "everyone's the asshole" situation. Mihoyo have done a terrible job of managing their customers' expectations, and those customers in aggregate are behaving incredibly poorly in their efforts to express their feelings resulting from that poor management. But yeah, as for me, meh. I'll just keep enjoying the game in the way that I enjoy it until such a time as I'm ready to be done enjoying it. I would have been quite happy to get giveaways of the scope and scale of what I see them prepping to do over in Honkai as that game's anniversary approaches, but whatever -- the context is so different that it's hard to get too upset about it.

Oh wow.

Spoiler:

I know that’s a Korean feminist thing, as if they’re putting down a man by showing how small he is. Korean men as a group tend to get really upset if they see that, whether it’s intended or not. I don’t know if that’s also a thing in Japan, but they have to at least know about it.

Yeah, it's this. The community response to this has unsurprisingly been incredibly overblown, but these anniversary rewards are a huge whiff compared to just about every other gacha game. It may seem silly to expect a bunch of free stuff for anniversary, but there is a precedent for it in the gacha "genre" as a whole. Anniversaries are usually used to celebrate the game, reward your loyal playerbase, and serve as a perfect jumping on point for new players. A lot of gachas do this with a bunch of free rolls and temporary rate increases on gacha banners.

Just for comparison's sake, Arknights (the other gacha I was heavily into this past year) celebrated its anniversary with the following (I'm gonna roughly translate these to Genshin equivalents so they make sense):

  • 1 free 10 pull in the mail
  • 1 free roll on the limited character banner per day for 14 days
  • 14 days of login bonuses roughly equivalent to 5 rolls, 7 fragile resin, and a small assortment of talent books and weapon materials
  • 1 brand new 4* character
  • 1 new outfit for one of the main characters
  • All domains open for the duration of the anniversary (so essentially 14 days of Sunday domains)

So that's about 30 rolls total, plus some other goodies. It's much more than what we are getting, and the Arknights anniversary wasn't even especially generous compared to some games. Check out these 3rd anniversary rewards for Dragalia Lost:

This 3rd anniversary is going to be a free summoning extravaganza! First, it’ll be 38 days of free Tenfold Summons starting on September 26th at 11 p.m. PT until November 3rd at 10:59 p.m. PT. It’s not over though, as on November 3rd at 11 p.m. PT until November 4th at 10:59 p.m., it’s a day of 100 free summons! Overall, that’s 480 free summons.

480 free summons Those are 3rd anniversary rewards, so not quite the same, but it looks like they also gave a whopping 140 free rolls for their 1st anniversary. I would NEVER expect Genshin Impact to be anywhere close to that generous for all kinds of reasons, but like I said, there's precedent for this kind of thing within the gacha sphere, and it really seems a bit silly to not at least include some kind of incentive for new players to hop in. I mean, if you ever did want to check out Dragalia Lost, that seems like some pretty strong incentive to hop in.

Honestly, I think all they had to do was give us a few extra fragile resin and a constellation for a 4* of our choosing. It still would have been a bit lackluster, but I don't think there would be nearly as much noise around this whole thing. In summary, yes people are being entitled babies about this, but Mihoyo also could and should have done more with very little effort.

I posted this in Discord, but for the sake of those who haven't seen it, the Asia server received an anniversary mail in game not too long ago. It looks like that are giving out what was supposed to be the Anniversary Concert Bundle for free over the next few days as an anniversary reward. That is a set of wings, a new harp for our houses, a theme, and 1000 primos (possibly more).

At least we assume they are giving all the serves that. Can't imagine the firestorm people will cause if only Asia get them.

I got my Anniversary email (1/4) in game at 12 midnight tonight. The wings are nice.

I also had the strangest bug in game. While farming crystals on the island of Guyun Stone Forest I detoured over to do the 4 Ruin Guard fight. When I completed it the game teleported me to the nearest domain and I couldn't view my characters and the controls were wonky- like I was stuck in a wall and trying to move. I had to log out and log back in to make it normal, but I lost any drops from that fight.

I sent Mihoyo feedback about this, just in case it had anything to do with the Moonlight event - since part of that event takes you to that spot to fight the Ruin Guards two at a time. I had already completed that fight on the first day of the event, and just was exploring normally tonight.

At first I though something was wrong with my team, then I realized everyone is just in character. Rosaria isn't going to stick around to play babysitter and Sayu slipped away for a nap.

2.2 stream happened, no trailer yet.

Childe rerun first, followed by Hu Tao with Thoma. Free Xinyan in rougelike event.

Primocodes for redemption

The rougelike event sounded interesting- I'm hoping this could be a trial for more end game content.

Also the new island will be released and there will be a new wolf-like enemy that will give the corruption effect - making healers more important while exploring.

Plus a new teapot realm in the style of Inazuma that looks pretty cool.

Thanks!

Banner info is officially out. Childe's RE-re-run banner has Yanfei, Chongyun and Ningguang.

Weapon banner has the new bow, Polar Star, and Memory of the Dust. Plus a limited 4 star claymore.

I'm not wishing one bit on either of these personally.

Yikes, those banners suck. Glad I won't even be tempted by the 4* characters this time.

I'll probably pull for ninnguang since I'm still using her as my main.

Oooooh... I might actually wish on this weapon banner. Polar Star looks ridiculous for Childe, and Memory of Dust would be great for both my Ningguang and Yanfei.

Is there a masterlist for Goodjers that play ?

Manach wrote:

Not exactly, but to our knowledge it's mostly just us in this thread? We also chat over on the GWJ Discord in a thread under the RPG channel.

We never really brought it up after the anniversary rewards discussion, but it's worth mentioning that Mihoyo did buckle to the criticism a bit with the in-game mail rewards we received. It amounted to something like 1600 primogems, 4 fragile resin, a new set of wings, and some teapot stuff. The wings and teapot rewards were previously listed as part of a 30 dollar bundle, so that was definitely a peace offering, not part of their original plan. Regardless of the reasoning, I'm glad to have an extra 10 pull!

The real highlight of the anniversary was the online concert, "Memories of an Endless Journey". Genshin Impact has so much incredible music that absolutely shines in a live performance.

Scroll down a bit through the comments for timestamps. I've listened all the way through once, but I will definitely come back to it, especially for the character demo themes that don't have standalone versions.

I was up watching that steam live with a group on one of my Discord servers. It was a great time chatting about the music and first year of Genshin.

Still waiting for the second half of that concert.

The new Inazuma layout for the teapot is really, really spectacular. I've only just barely got one outdoor area mostly complete, with another looking okay from a distance, but it's already feeling quite special. A few more weeks worth of crafting, purchases, and tweaking and it's going to be really hard to choose between this new one and my delightful Liyue setup.

From a distance, a quaint multicultural residential district.

New infographics for the current Abyss rotation:

More details here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Genshin_Imp...

I had a tougher time with this rotation than the last. 11-3 took me quite a few tries just figuring out the Hydro Cube and learning the small windows in the fight where I could actually damage it. The Pyro Cube was much easier.

12-3 took me a long time to 3*. I went in with low health and only Sucrose burst up on my first team which made things really rough at the start. It probably would have been faster for me to re-clear the floor to have full health and energy for 12-3, but I'm stubborn and managed to brute force it after a few dozen attempts. Here's the cleared run:

Even with me trying to battery my team for the first 15-20 seconds of the fight and a bunch of mistakes, I managed to clear with 20 seconds remaining. The AOE damage on the Childe comp is pretty silly when set up even moderately well, and Morgana is Morgana.

It also helps that my Childe is significantly stronger than the last time I did the Abyss because I managed to get a Polar Star from the weapon banner for him. I also switched out my 4 piece Heart of Depth for 2 Heart of Depth / 2 Gladiator with significantly better substats. That got me +90 attack, 11% crit rate, 27% crit dmg, and 60 EM. It made me think that I should probably go through my other characters with weak pieces and see which set bonuses are worth sacrificing for better stats.

Looking forward to (hopefully) pulling Thoma in my attempts to get Hu Tao.

In anticipation of Hu Tao, can anyone help me with this riddle? If you have Hu Tao, Zhongli and Xiangling, and you have Blackcliff Pole, Dragon's Bane and Deathmatch, who gets which weapon?
