Horror movies and TV series

I liked "It Follows". I imagine there must be thread somewhere documenting all the scenes It shows up (even when the protagonists don't notice).

Another one I liked, "The Swarm", a French film on Netflix. What is the true horror in that movie? (rhetorical question)

I’ve seen the trailer for that one. Historically any movie with swarms of insects ain’t good so I was wary. I’ll give it a go.

Watched the 2009 remake of Friday the 13th. Sam Winchester vs Jason lets get ready to rumble. Somehow I totally missed this remake. Was it worth the wait, not really. The movie was okay, it had boobs and a nice kill or two. However, it didn't surpass the original or any of the sequels and that includes Jason X which I liked.

Most of the kills were boring. Sure someone needs to be stabbed in a slasher but we also need some campers being wrapped in sleeping bag and repeatedly slammed into a tree until they are bloody mass. Also some of the kills were more human like than supernatural monster like. I guess they were going for a human jason which I guess makes sense if it isn't his mom. I don't know if this jason is human. He moves like a human but also teleports like a monster. The teleporting could just be bad editing.

The movie was interesting and I'm glad I watched it but this is the worse Friday the 13th movie I have seen. I rate this movie 80085 out of 8==DS

WAIT WAIT WAIT A MINUTE. Jason Takes Manhattan was worse than this movie. Almost forgot about that movie. Wish I could forget about that movie.

I enjoyed it and I think the take on the genre is interesting. +1 for being a foreign language/culture.

That has the rooftop boxing scene. That is all that I really remember from that movie and it gives me good giggles. So it has some worth.

Yeah the F13 and Nightmare reboots were both terrible.

They should have just made Freddy v Jason 2. That was good fun.

And yet the Halloween from 2018 was fantastic.

Considering I wrote a blog post about all the Hellraiser films this might seem odd:

I think all of the F13 and Elm Street movies are awful, but at least Freddy is fun. (I can't recall if I watched Freddy vs Jason or only saw the "highlights".)

Yeah, that Halloween was fantastic but we had to trudge through Zombie's awful reboot to get there.

Watched Maniac Cop and was really sadden and depressed by it but then I realized I was watching the news. After starting up the real movie I was surprised it starred Bruce Campbell. He is such a baby in this movie I didn't recognize him right away. It also has another actor that is in a bunch of older horror movies in it.

This movie answers the question What If Jason became a cop. I liked the movie for the most part but it drags in the middle when there is a pause in the killing. The man with the chin and the lady with big hair have to do some detective work. Once that is done the killing starts up again.

Don't worry they stop the maniac cop and punish him by suspending him for two weeks with pay. He won't be doing any more killing. What there is a maniac cop 2 and 3? Well they should have suspended him for three week that would have stopped him.

This movie gets 7 bullets out of a glock.

35ish years after seeing C.H.U.D. in my childhood video store and thinking I should watch it I finally did last night thanks to a bout of insomnia. It was just OK.

Was surprised to see John Heard in it, as well as that crazy-haired, non-Joe Pesci guy from the Home Alone movies (which I also haven't seen), and a young Johnny Rico's dad rocking a 70s porn stache. Apparently Cmd. Sinclair was also in this movie, but I must have missed him. Biggest surprise was seeing a baby young John Goodman in one of his earliest roles playing a cop at a diner who became a C.H.U.D. snack.

Overall a pretty meh movie with much worse creature effects.

Never seen CHUD and was thinking it was the rat movie. Just watched the trailer and looks like I was wrong. I think Rick and Morty did a parody of this.

Oh and it is on the free services and prime. Maybe I'll check it out next.

What? You've got to see the first one at some point. It's a dumb fun time.

CHUD is a bad film, yeah, on par with Ghoulies. They're all tied up in the same frenzy that created the Garbage Pail Kids. Gross out weird creatures and effects (lots of slime, puke, etc).

But we can all agree Killer Clowns from Outer Space was the pinnacle of horror films, right?

Oh, absolutely! Killer Clown is a special film.

It was the 80s. That frenzy was coke. Lots of coke.

I tried watching Midnight Meat Train, but it was pretty boring and I gave up. Did I miss anything?

Fun fact, the clowns were reused on Ernest Scared Stupid.

Yes, there was Maniac Cop 2 and 3. The second movie is actually pretty dang fun and much better than the first. The third movie not so much.

If you have Shudder, Joe Bob Briggs did Maniac Cop 1 & 2 on the show during this most recent season. So got lots of nice insight into those films. They also had Bruce Campbell in for the showing of the first film and Larry Cohen, the director, for the second. The Larry interview was the better one as that guy is still like a kid in a candy story when re-living making these movies.

But yes, the first film has quite a actors that were either unknown at the time or were actors in better stuff. The second film the big catch was Robert Davi who they managed to snag after him doing James Bond License to Kill. No idea how they convinced him to appear in the 3rd film which the director washes his hands of.

Where were you in the name that movie thread when I posted one of the flesh colored Killer Klowns from Ernest Scared Stupid and nobody got it.

It's been a long time since I've seen it but I remember liking it. It's based on a Clive Barker story which usually means it's either your thing or not. At least he didn't direct it so it's got that going for it.

Re: The Exorcist. I've seen it a couple of times and every time come away bored. I just don't find it scary at all. I assume it's because I had an almost entirely secular upbringing so I don't have an ingrained fear of demons or my soul being corrupted or whatever. Movies that rely entirely on religious fear tend to bore the sh*t out of me. Rosemary's Baby, on the other hand, while being about Satan, only uses it as a twist with the rest of the movie being psychological horror. That's a good movie albeit made by a piece of sh*t.

I did check out CHUD, did not like at all. Just kind of boring. Lot better creatures under the ground movies. Relic and The Descent were better and I didn't like the descent but it was much better movie and most people loved it.

I give this 1 to many off camera death scenes out of 10. Oh look at the hands grab someone and pull them off camera, scary.

Watch the original 1973 The Crazies which I liked more than the remake. This movie went beyond the towns people being the crazies. The situation was crazy. The military was crazy. People were using the situation to rob people. Very bad decisions were being made. Very good title for the movie. Movie might be a little to close to the covid situation though

I give this 8 beat your head over messages out of 10.

That the director of CHUD went on to do nothing else as a director says pretty much everything. He didn't even get to direct the sequel. (The guy seems to make his living as a film editor.)

The best parts of CHUD are getting to say "hey, it's that guy" every couple of minutes and drinking anytime somebody says "Bosch".

I've never understood why people think The Descent is so great.

One Cut of the Dead should get a mention. It's a horror comedy with a feel good ending.

It's hard to talk too much about it without spoiling it as there's a clever trick it does half way through. But its a single-shot, low budget, film about making a low budget zombie film when an actual zombie outbreak happens - I think I got that right. Stick around for the credits.

And when I say low budget I mean this was like a 30k student film but it did gangbusters in Japan and has made over 27 million.

Its worth checking out horror fan or not.

I still haven't seen that for more than 5 mins because my wife couldn't hack the camera movement.

+1 for Cabin in the Woods. Haven't watched a ton of horror but that probably makes my list of top movies overall.

I was looking for some campy schlock so I settled on a re-watch of Lair of the White Worm.

I either forgot or never realized that Hugh f*cking Grant is in this movie.
