For any PS4/PS5 gamers out there - Best Buy is selling Cyberpunk 2077 for $10 (today only).

Also on Xbox One/Series X|S.

My favorite game from 2020, Lair of the Clockwork God is only $6 on Steam.

Free on Epic this week: Void Bastards & Yooka-Laylee

Free on Epic next week: Automachef

I never really played them or if I did they didn't leave any long term memory so I don't know how cringey they are, but IndieGala seems to be giving away the first two Leisure Suit Larry games.

Veeeery cringey.

Quake II RTX is currently free on GoG, in case you want to test that RTX card you may have been lucky enough to score in the past few months.

There was a fascinating article a few years ago (which of course I can't find) looking back on LSL, and basically arguing that it holds up surprisingly well. Larry is of course a sleazy woman-chaser, but the argument was that he's never presented as a pickup artist out for conquest - he's always basically a sad-sack trying to fall in love and have a permanent relationship with the women he chases. When he does manage to sleep with someone he immediately wants to talk about marriage, while the woman usually treats him as a fling and moves on.

The other argument was that the series is unusually sex-positive for women - even by today's standards, let alone when it came out. E.g. when women ignore or reject Larry they aren't portrayed negatively for it, and when they set a boundary Larry always respects it. Also I remember the author pointing out a bit in one of the games where you play as Larry's love interest Patti, and you have the option to have casual sex with a guy (other than Larry) - and if you do, nothing bad happens. She commented that when first playing LSL she'd never seen that before, and wouldn't see it again for many years after.

I'm sure there are probably individual parts that don't hold up, but overall I think people remember them as a lot creepier than they really were.

PlayStation Direct has 10% off accessories today and free shipping. Expedited if PS+.

First good discount on the new colors of Dualsense. Finally got me a red one.

Yeah, I don't really need a second controller.

I probably should try to get a console to go with the controller.

Ah, who am I joking. We know that's not going to happen!

Saints Row The Third Remastered is currently free on the Epic Game store, and will remain free until September 2nd.

WTF it's not Thursday

It seems to be related to the Saint's Row reboot going up for pre-purchase.

Man I looked at the remaster's graphics and I was wondering what the changes actually were. Seemed exact same until I actually saw it side by side. Nostalgia is hell of a thing. Will probable play it again at some point. Do wish they remastered 2. That's still my favorite just for the story alone.

I thought the same thing about the Quake remaster. Ever since they open sourced the engine you've been able to play on modern OSes with more advanced features. Some in fact look much better than the current remaster.

Also some game called "Automachef" is free on Epic store? Dunno anything about it, but getting it for free gave me a nice endorphin boost so I can wholeheartedly recommend getting it.

If you have a soft spot for spatial programming games, it's great!

And the esteemed Yoku's Island Express will be free next week on Epic. If you haven't bought it already, it's worth the wait.

Anyone have an opinion on Mutant Football League? I enjoyed NFL blitz back in the day. $8 on Xbox for deluxe edition with all the dlc.

I saw this on Epic's site earlier, and my brain read it as "Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair", which I already own twice over from giveaways on different platforms, so I skipped over it. Glad I read your post... I don't have Yoku's, and I'll definitely be picking up next week.

Yoku's Island Express is one of those games I'll never shut up about. It's absolutely divine. You owe it to yourself to play it!

Panzer Dragoon remake is on sale, I forget if it was $5 or $6.. still..

Honestly, I'd avoid the remake.

I thought I'd love it because I'm a HUGE fan of Starfox 64 and love the art in Panzer Dragoon. The remake feels like it strips away what made the original such a classic. It just feels awkward to play. It's a culmination of little things, like a weird reticle and strange movement.

It's a shame.
