The Some Like It HOT TAKES thread

? I always thought that DAO was just an updated Baldur's Gate with it's "real-time" (pauseable) combat.

I thought so too. My guess was that I tried playing on PS4 instead of PC. I’m not a huge M&K snob, but I think the controller controls was why I hated the combat.

Well, if you didn't like DAO's combat then you'd really hate 2 and Inquisiton's combat as it's more MMO-like than DAO.

Hot take - DA:O is the only good game in the series (in fact, it's great). The franchise then takes a deep dive off a cliff and never recovers.

DRAGON AGE 2 WAS A BAD GAME.

My hot take is that Dragon Age are all bad games.

It should be right up my alley, but I found every one tedious and was so bored around hour 5 I just couldn't be bothered to keep going.

So, Baldur's Gate was the same as Dragon Age in more ways than one.

Doh! I meant DAI was the one I played with a controller. Sorry!!! I loved DAO, never played 2 and quit DAI after 10-ish hours.

Skyrim needs a new game plus mode where you can roll a new character and start them at a higher level with all of the shouts unlocked and the main story quest already finished.

Oh good, give them ANOTHER reason to re-re-re-release it.

Mostly I want to play as the various races and classes, but I have no desire to do the main quest again.

The hottest of takes: This constant waste of resources on re-releasing Skyrim shows me that Bethesda's got nothing left in the tank creatively and has severely tempered my expectations for Starfield and ESO6.

Fallout 4 showed me that.

Sir, this is the Hot Takes thread, the Transparently Correct Takes thread is somewhere else.

If your expectations for ESO6 wasn't already "Skyrim but different weather and shinier graphics", then that's not a Bethesda problem, that's a PaladinTom problem.

I'll admit, I'm intrigued by what they do with a space setting, but realistically I'm expecting "Skyrim but pink aliens and shinier graphics."

If you play on PC you can use mods that allow you to access the character creator to change your character's appearance.

But you can’t respect and racial bonuses probably don’t transfer over.

There's mods for that too.

Your racial bonuses do change. You are opening the very same character creator you use at the start of the game. And there are built-in console commands that let you functionlly respec. You can add or remove perks, perk points, set stats and skill levels, etc. It just has to be done one change at a time, so it can take awhile to fully respec, though there probably is a mod that makes it easier.

"Skyrim but different weather and shinier graphics"

Adorbs. Bethesda has been stripping out systems and elements for so long in the name of some bizarre "friction-less" ideal, it's not going to be something even as basic as Skyrim. I'll be pleasantly surprised if NPCs don't run straight up to people and offer "Do you want to be the bad ass leader of my faction? Congratulations! You are!"

I can’t say that They Might Be Giants is the most boring very popular band ever, but only because I am nowhere close to having listened to songs of every very popular band.

Never heard any Beatles songs, eh?

I'll be extremely surprised if they don't take the many improvements they've made to FO76 and apply them to their future games.

Hot Take: Sushi sold any further than 100-150 miles inland or distant from a major body of water should just be skipped.

This take is so not hot it's raw like the sushi you don't want.

Hot take: modern flash freezing is a miracle of science and I am very grateful that I am able to get high-quality fish, including sushi, virtually anywhere. Anyone who says different is trying to justify regional snobbery and would no doubt fail a double-blind taste test of previously-frozen vs fresh fish.

Can I chose the god, or at least the Pantheon? I would be down for some Aphrodite, or Freyja, or maybe even a Yemoja. I would even settle for a Media or a Meme.

And depending on the pantheon, I’d even take death.

Okay, Thanos.

Kali.

Be the last thing you do, but what a way to go right?
