Playstation 5 Catch-All

I'm sorry you hate fun and/or have no soul. Best of luck with that.

I think it depends on if you're playing the PS4 version or the PS5 version, and whether you mean the original game or the new "Director's Cut". There's only a PS4 version of the original game, although it got patched to take some advantage of the PS5 when played via backwards compatibility. The Director's Cut has both a PS4 version (which can be played on the PS5 via BC), and a native PS5 version.

It's all kind of a mess.

Sorry, PS5 director's cut. I upgraded my original PS4 disc.

*shrug* I got tired of Arkham Asylum combat after Shadow of Mordor and find the character super corny.

I always find it amusing when people compare its combat to Arkham because... it's not. It's really not. It's more free-form than that, for good and for ill. The stealth is a shallow imitation of what the Arkham games did, yes, but Spider-Man combat is really different since it's not as reactionary as the Batman combat is. Also: Batman has far better A.I. "mook etiquette" that you can really capitalize on in order to maintain a combo.

Spider-Man is more my style except for the B.S. A.I. and enemy behavior and stuff. It's kind of a perfect sample of the game as a whole: a lot of really good ideas... but then bafflingly poor ones.

Felt like Arkham for the 8 minutes I gave it.

Picked up a PS5 last week, and have been absolutely loving playing it. I've dug in hard on Valhalla (which I had previously been playing on PC; I love that the saves just automatically loaded up on my PS5!), and enjoyed some early time with Returnal, Quake, and RDR2. The latter is especially nice, what with the much faster load times and lack of jet noise from the console itself.

I grabbed an 8TB external USB hard drive, which has helped dramatically with the native storage issues; I have a 2TB M.2 sitting next to the system, ready to go as soon as the firmware update to enable it leaves beta. I would strongly suggest to anyone buying a new system to pick up at least a big USB HDD to go with it, as the ability to run PS4 games directly from one makes it a great option for porting over all of your older games.

Beyond that, I'm just impressed. 4K HDR is nice, and the UI for the dashboard has been made so much better in comparison to the PS4 -- no more lengthy delays getting to the store, much easier rapid app switching with the quick menu, and the rest/resume process is a really nice quality of life enhancement.

You know that's a good point. A lot of people, some of us even, have complained about the new menu and some of the changes. But it really is very responsive. It should get points for that.

I guess I'm in the camp that feels a responsive menu should be a given. If you're trying to sell your product you shouldn't make every single interaction an aggravation.

Yes, I realize "should be" is the downfall of a plenitude of theses.

It should be in an ideal world but the two competitor UIs are indeed much more sluggish.

Any rumors of a back button attachment for the PS5? I miss it from the PS4.

None whatsoever. I was surprised the DualSense didn't include back buttons; I assumed the DS4 attachment was a hint as to what was coming with the next generation.

For anyone still looking for a PS5 console. Walmart has announced they will have another restock event tonight at 9pm EST. Walmart does tranches every 10 minutes until they've exhausted their supply.

PS5 (disc edition) popped up for me as the Amazon "Treasure Truck" deal of the day today.

How many did you get?

Zero. I got mine back in Dec 2020, and don't need any more. I just thought it was funny to see it pop up in such a venue.

Horizon Zero Dawn, finally got a 60fps patch. Now I can play!

Delay it ten more days so it comes out on the fifth anniversary of the original.

Responding to this thread to bookmark it for this kind of info! Been looking high and low for months to get one for my son's 16th birthday, now just a few weeks away. But I've been bracing him for the likelihood that it's just not going to happen.

Yeah we still try to post in here when we see it.

If you're on Twitter follow Wario64 or Cheap Ass Gamer. Should get you notifications for stock when it happens.

Thanks! I have been actively avoiding Twitter...until today. Following those with notifications turned on, silent so I don't go insane.

The first article manages to completely contradict itself in the space of three paragraphs: "The newest model of the PlayStation 5 that has started to be sold to customers seems to contain a very major downgrade" quickly becomes "...the difference wasn't a major one...". I'm glad I got a launch PS5, but early on my money's on Sony not having created a Red Ring Of Death situation for itself.

I'm glad the second article points out it's still cooler than the new Xbox, for a little perspective. Clearly a cost cutting that you hope doesn't affect performance or longevity.

Okay everybody, get hyped for... something.

Horrah. I shall indeed.

It's a reveal of the PS6, made out of parts available readily. Old hay, tractor parts, & reused water bottles.

I gotta say, I bounced off of Spiderman a few times (despite buying it on PS4 and PS5), but I am actually loving it. I generally hate open world games, but the traversal mechanic is so good that it makes doing side missions enjoyable.

I will admit, took almost to the end of Act 1 to grab me.

It takes a bit to get going especially since Spidey does not start out very powerful.

You might say it takes a while to... stick.
